I'm going to be critical for a moment

Kiffin wiffed on Rubio, so he's busy forwarding the paperwork himself.

The athletic department is out of money, as you know.
I didn't know if this was some kind of paperwork snafu or if these kids were waiting until the NCAA had its meeting with USC.

Agree completly but on the other hand it is hard to get DL to commit when you dont have a DL coach.

And ur point is. That is the HC job to make sure thats in place.

I know, 3 Weeks yadahadahyadah....That's long enough to put coaches in place. I know the timing was tough, but there were 4 DT in this state alone that were rated 3*and we offered exactly 0 of them- I agree with Sab on this one,,...,,.,. GBO

Also Glass a Texas Ol is still out there unsigned. Just Saying.... not b#%$*ing

So you're assuming here that Marlon Walls and Arthur Jefferey aren't worth a damn? Plus Hughes looked pretty good last year, not to mention we could have some other players that the coaching staff plan on making DTs. Plus if we're going to be running the 3-4, we dont need a ton of DTs. All i'm saying is, give the guy a chance to prove himself before ripping him.

Yes, and it was filled to the brim with excellent defensive tackles, wasn't it?

But is that Saban's MO. As a Vol fan, I don't pay as much attention to Saban's recruits, but it seems like the first couple of years at Alabama there were a bunch of DTs. BTW I heard that Bama picked up late a 2-3 star DT from Memphis that Saban likes.

DTs can usually become OL if they don't work on DL.

I am still pretty satisfied even though Copeland hurt.

The 3-4 utilizes one huge NT and two larger DE that could conceivably play UT in a 4-3 scheme. You aren't getting around the need for big interior Dlinemen by going to the 3-4.

Brown possible at NT and J Smith could be an instant contributor at the OLB as a pass rusher. We also have to see how some the freshmen from last year develop but I see us in a 4-3 again.

This is a good class, great class considering the time DD had. All that being said I do feel a little let down, we filled some needs QB, WR and so so OL. But the DB and DT position is going to be a week spot for the next few years.

Okay so I'm confused now. Who gets credit for LSU's signing classes again; Dooley or Saban?

We are fine at DB.

Reminder....Saban and his bevy of DTs have now won TWO BCS Titles. I think we should start looking at the DT position in the future!

I don't see how in the heck we can spend scholarships on guys like Crump and Sapp, but we can't get more than 1 (and not a definite qualifier) defensive tackle to commit. The second biggest need on the team.

oh,, I dont know, DD only had 3 weeks and we hadnt signed a DL coach or a DC. Im very happy about how it all turned out.

Agreed completely, people are freaking out over nothing in comparison to how bad things could have turned out.

While you are technically correct and we only need 1 NT, I wonder if you realize how a 3-4 defense really works. We don't exactly have the personnel for it.

Yes. They may want to switch in a year or two, but the type of players it takes for a 3-4 are completely different. Bigger pass rushing tweener linebackers. Bigger ends that are dedicated as much to speed rush as 4-3 ends. If you take 4-3 personnel and put them out in a 3-4 alignment, if you thought the wildcat was tough to stop last year, give the rb 10 blockers and then an even more undersized front seven to run against. I wish people would think about this alittle before they post. It's the difference between knowing a 4-3 means 4 dline and 3 linebackers and knowing what TYPE of dlineman and linebackers you need. Saban didn't walk into Alabama and switch, he had to recruit the personnel first

That's the POINT! We should have those positions filled by now! If we hire Chuck Smith this week I will be TICKED because he has wanted to be here for the last 2 WEEKS! He could have helped seal the deal on Copeland....

i agree no DT's spells problems for us. but this is tennessee football, i'm used to dissappointment. what would really make me happy is if they would fire hamilton. i'm shocked he still has a job, it's just terrible.

Here are the weights of the two-deep Boise St d-line: 263, 241, 288, 254, 296, 332, 271 (3rd string nose), 262, 259. Of those 9 players, 1 Jr, 5 So, 3 Fr.
And the 332 was second string and listed at 6' tall. They held up ok. Is it completely out of the question for the UT d-line to do the same? This is all assuming that Wilcox will be the next DC, hence the Boise State example.

IF you think a quality staff can be assembled in two and a half weeks, you are deluded.

Absolutely fine at db. That is the one area on defense that i'm not worried about. Wish we still had EB though but he is a top 10 pick and you have to take the cash. I think our linebackers will be fine next season and i think we have talent there we just had injuries last season. However, dt is our glaring weakness but I think we will be able to salvage it enough to do well. Do we have any large de's that may be able to bulk up to dt in the offseason?

Something you probably did not know...

Alabama, LSU, Clemson, MSU, Kentucky, Southern Miss, Memphis and Ole Miss signed 17Tennessee Recruits and 8 of them were Lineman, 4 LB's all 3* or better with exception of 4 recruits..

Not even counting Vandy and I did not want too do more research..

WOW!! I think we have enough here in state to improve oue line situations...JMO

Tn. signed 2 Tennessee players total....
