I'm hearing Worley is possibly out...

Butch Jones Monday Press Conference -9/16 ("FreakNotes")
-We are not a very mentally tough football team.
-The game became fast and we made mental errors.
-Our mental conditioning has to take monumental steps forward.
-We gave up 72 yards in lost leverage on defense.
-Eye discipline and individuals coming off of man coverage.
-16 missed tackles.
-Not good on first down.
-Two big plays, that's it.
-In today's world of college football, you need big plays.
-We must overachieve to be able to compete and win football games.
-All we can do is roll our sleeves up, go back to work and get better.
-Losing will never ever be tolerated or accepted at Tennessee. Winning is a habit and losing is a habit.
-It starts with preparing our football team and that starts with me.
-All I can ask is the players give their all.
-I expect a great day of practice.
-Florida great on rushing defense and third down conversions.
-Florida has playmakers all over the place. We face another dual threat quarterback in another hostile environment.
-We need to become a much more mentally tough team.
-Saturday it was 17-7 and we gave up a third and long when an individual gave up on his man coverage.
-The standard of excellence that we demand is non-negotiable.
-Lack of team speed... big factor. That's one thing we have to address but there's only so many things you can do to make your team faster.
-But also, football is a game of instincts and reactions and we didn't react well.
-We must recruit speed.
-Sapp will practice today. Saulsberry going through MRI but looks like he will be out 3-6 weeks. We will know more but definitely won't play the next couple weeks.
-Worley needs to settle in and be a little more aggressive. We need him to attack more. Just like any position, the qb position is open. That means if a freshman plays the best in practice, they'll play. We need our quarterback to run. We need to create big plays and that's a focus this week.
-Rajion and Marlon are complementing each other but we can't turn the football over. Both have improved pass protection. We need Hill and Smith to continue to push those two. What we need in our program is competition. Smith and Hill did some good things and we are going to start to rely on them.
-North is a 4.4 guy. He can run but is still working on the nuances to get open. I see him getting better and better but we have to play freshmen and they have to grow up in a hurry.
-Had two seem routes where the slot receiver was off the mark, it's not all on the quarterback.
-Hard to judge the qb because of all the parts and pieces.
-You lose two slot receivers, half of our game plan had to be put aside. We expect Pig and Johnson to practice today.
-I play the percentages. Everything is strategically planned out on the football field. Nothing is just roll the dice. Very calculated (talking about going for it on fourth down).
-Special teams. The speed differential was evident on special teams. We have to do a better job technically. You may see our entire starting defense on special teams. Need speed.
-QB. We'll open it up. We will see what the freshman can handle. Peterman is the first one at practice every day. Worley is getting better. It's a week to week thing.
-The influx of new players at receiver has probably set back the quarterback position.
-Justin is waiting for the receiver to come open and then throwing. He has to anticipate.
-Every great quarterback has that aggressiveness and confidence, the "it" factor".
-Open competition with Dobbs and Ferguson this week. Worley has a knack to create plays--keeping plays alive with his feet.
-Worley has the luxury to pull the ball on the zone read. He did it in the first game.
-We want a high vision guy, but if it's not there we need to get 4-5 yards from the quarterback running.
-We had zero negative yards rushing the football.
-We have to establish the line of scrimmage and that will be a huge challenge this week.
-We have to do a better job of play action and run action and alleviating some of the pressure.
-Florida defines SEC defenses, speed and size.
-Learned some valuable lessons from the Oregon game. We learned some valuable lessons for the future. We will look back at this game as a measuring stick for the next few years.
-Sometimes you can learn more from losing than you can from winning. Sometimes when you win you sweep things under the rug.
-It's going to be a process and we can't get ahead of ourselves. We just have to keep focusing on being a better football team, minute by minute and day by day.
-Our players showed up yesterday ready to get back to work and get better and that's what I needed to see.
-We must be the team that overachieves on Saturday.
-Nothing new on the Mo Couch situation.
-Saulsberry had progressed better than any d-lineman we had. He was playing the best of our lineman and that's a ig setback. Carr will have to grow up in a hurry and has to be game-ready for the Gators.

The end.

Saw this in the Butch jones monday presser thread by Freak.

Need play makers, pure and simple. The positive on Worley had been the turnovers were very low. Guess we'll go high risk and high reward to see if we can get a spark going. I'd love to see a break out from one of the QB's to just take the job and go. My fear is this will drag out for several games, but if that's what it takes then we'll have to see who the gamer is. Rebuilding sucks, but this time we've got a coach who's done it and won before versus hope and German sightings.

"Whatever quarterback has the best week of practice is going to be the starter for Tennessee when we play Florida. If that means a freshman quarterback, that means a freshman quarterback. We’ll have more quarterback run in to our package this week. We just need to find ways to generate big explosive plays and if that’s Josh Dobbs running the read option or Riley Ferguson, that’s what we’ll do to create big plays. That’s going to be our focus and preparation this week.”

Reading between the lines, sounds like Dobbs or Fergie will be the starter. He went out of his way to mention them and how they can run teh read option well.

He also mentioned Peterman as being the first one in at 6 am every morning

Just because the qb battle is back open does not automatically nean Worely is out. Now don't get me wrong I think that he is terrible, but if come Friday if he wins out he will play Sat.

Like Kiffin did with Crompton game after game up until UGA? Think about it.

The difference in Crompton and Worley is that Crompton had all the physical attributes of an elite qb. He was athletic and had a cannon for an arm, Worley on the other hand has the weakest arm I've ever seen on a D1 qb a slow delivery and he can't run. There is no upside to sticking with Worley.

Worley won the competetion through game 3. What makes anyone think he will be overtaken this week? Its all coach speak, Worley will start against UF.

Maybe Justin can play RB or DB, looks like the production level is average at those positions as well :hi:

If the others are not as good you have to stick with Worlry.

TSR posted a poll this morning for starting QB heading into UF..

As it stands Worley, Peterman, and Fergie all tied up at 31.2%. Dobbs last at 6.2%

I personally wouldn't mind seeing Nate or Riley getting a shot. We gave worley his fair and due chance.. but he has proven he van not get it done. Why not start to groom the QB of tomorrow. I was against this at the start of the season. I thought it would be wrong to rob worley of it.. but he had his chance.

Im not so sure this week is the best week to make a change....especially when a team like florida practices all year against the same type of offense. Were gonna need to be able to throw the rock to win this one and im not sure who gives us the best chance to do that ????
But i trust butch.....

... as starting QB on other sites. Hyams saying that Butch is gonna open the position back up. Can anyone confirm?

SIAP. Didn't se it clearly marked in a thread

This Florida game is just like the 2011 South Carolina game. Simms started. When the game got out of hand, Bray was put in and he started every game the rest of the season.

Worley will play until we get behind and then one of the freshmen will be put in and Worley will lose his job. At the seasons end, Worley will transfer...

I'm pretty sure that on the 1st play of the game when Worley threw what appeared to be a Cromptonesque bounce pass from 5 yards away, that the TE was running the wrong route. He should have been running a 2yd Crawl Route when he fakes the LB and dives on the ground crawling out toward the flat. Worley would have hit him in stride.

i say bring on Ferg....let him have the start. If he is a real winner, he will welcome the challange of Florida and wont shy away. He may suck too....i obviously have no idea. Kid just comes across as a winner. If we dont make some sort of change, I am not sure we beat ANY SEC team this year (well OK, we can take Kentucky)

Worley's arm might not be that strong but there's no way his arm is weaker than Rick Clausen's was.

Couldn't agree more. The kid is a winner, he has the confidence and the attitude. I just don't feel Worley has either of the two. Riley's dad is on TSR right now. Its a good listen!
