I'm rooting for Georgia!

I don’t have a problem with rooting for some SEC teams in bowl games. Florida is a major rival, but I can cheer for them (if I wanted to) because I like this game to mean something and their success doesn’t directly affect us. Our recruiting bases don’t overlap the way Clemson and Georgia do.

Kentucky and Vanderbilt are basketball schools and they aren’t going to beat us head to head for players when we go all in no matter how bad we are. Them winning a bowl game isn’t going to affect us one way or the other. South Carolina could affect us but they still aren’t going to beat us out often for players. Ole Miss and Arkansas can be more dangerous due to their location to Memphis and the fact that Kiffin and Pittman are good recruiters, but aren’t usually going to beat us out (though they can as with Sanders this year). We only go head to head with LSU when we are going after a national recruit. You rarely see kids from our base heading to LSU, where their state produces enough talent where we can pick off some talent that we need regardless of where we end up (like Sampson). A&M is kind of an issue only due to their wealth, but they aren’t going to come after kids in our region unless they are a 5 star product like Nolan.

Clemson, Georgia, Bama, and Auburn are schools that directly affect our success. We will always have to beat these schools out for the top talent in the mid SE region. Auburn will be a problem again with the slime ball coaching them. He can flat out recruit. Kirby is in a good spot because Tech sucks and the state produces so much talent. Saban is Saban, while hopefully Dabo is beginning to decline.

I may be the odd man out around here, but I'm pullinh for the Dawgs! I'm hoping UGA and UM meet in the championship game and Georgia wins a tight one. I like close, exciting games, especially between blue-blood programs. And I root for UT first, then the SEC East second, then the SEC third. I don't want anyone claiming that Tennessee is in a weak conference or that they play a soft schedule. I like it when Tennessee beats strong teams like Florida or LSU. It means nothing to me when UT beats Akron or Wyoming. It also looks good when teams we play win out. If Georgia loses to OSU (God forbid) or UM, then the logical claim will be that OSU or UM could beat Tennessee. Nope, sorry. If Tennessee is going to lose to UGA in the regular season and get knocked out of championship contention, then I want UGA to win it all so that our loss to them doesn't look as bad.

It makes no sense to me when people root against other SEC teams when they're playing non-conference foes, especially in bowl games. I understand the recruiting edge we get when we win and other SEC teams lose, but I don't think that rationale holds much water; there are plenty of great players to go around. I also understand rooting for higher-ranked teams to lose so that we might get a bump up in the standings. But that probably won't happen with any of the top-4 teams, and nobody remembers the rankings anyway. They only remember the bowl wins and championships.

So I'll be pulling for Georgia this weekend. Go SEC!
Lol wow

It's very rare that I won't root for an SEC team in bowl games or the play offs. But I was happy to see South Carolina lose after they ran their mouth and ear ring boy smoking his cigar

Uhh UGA isn't a blueblood...

Michigan is, yes.

If you want to see bluebloods (you hate parity and newcomers?) then you should be rooting for Michigan v OSU.

I can't imagine rooting for SEC teams though. Screw em all. They ARE the enemy.

OP is traitorous.

I pull for TN and TN only on the SEC unless a certain game impacts pure chances for standings.

I don’t get into the SEC chants. All I care about is TN, and TN only. I hope UGA gets curb stomped tonight.
SEC chants are for people that can't think for themselves. Would fit in well in Russia.

A lot of this is generational. Older people tend to root for the conference as a sense of regional pride. Younger people don't.

I personally hold a resentment for the OSU and TCU for making it without a single impressive performance. They proved nothing we didn't yet they made it. So **** em.

Georgia is pretty hard to root for. But I was absolutely rooting for Bama against KSU.

Excuse for being illogical. You're either pulling for the interests of the Vols or you're pulling against them.

Regional pride is hilariously silly. That is the ego speaking...as if YOU'RE on the field. Ya ain't. I'm a Tennesseean, not a "Southeasterner + Florida + Texas + Oklahoma + Missouri"...whatever the hell that would even mean. Sounds like some old confederacy/dixie rebel "pride" crap.

Vol fans shouldn't root for things that hurt us.
