I'm tellin ya

ANOTHER one of these threads. How many kiss butch's butt and feet threads do we need? Can't there just be a sticky forum or something like they had speculation on the head coach or whatever?

This is getting ridiculous. Every time we turn around, theres a new thread saying how excited someone is. Why does there need to be a new thread every few days about being excited. It's freakin January. Recruiting hasn't even finished. Let's put all the overzealous, excited, jumping up and down, just surpassed richt in twitter, ect in its own forum.

Tennessee will be back one day. It quite possibly may be with butch jones. Obviously he is a hard worker. He's a motivator. However, let's wait until next season comes and goes before we go crazy on him. Realistically speaking and I'll keep saying it, but he was the university's 5th pick.

Nearly a last ditch effort. (Gruden, gundy, strong, fedora) Now, could he surpass all expectations? Absolutely. Could he be a hidden treasure? Yes he could. I think he's a good coach. Never been a question. I just think a wait and see approach would be wise. You can like the hire. Be excited, but not post new threads every so often declaring it when you could simply add to the other thread started. The overzealousness just as the grudenites had in their quest and belief was annoying, this is reaching that point. Everyone wanted to wait and we about our new coach. They got tired of hearing about him. While this isn't on the same level, yet, it's getting equally annoying. Let the guy recruit and have a season before we declare him the next great coach.

I can see your point, but don't agree with it. With social media the way it is today everything we say or type will either have a positive or negative effect on our team. Every thread on VN is posted on twitter through the VN twitter account. You will find every major company, sports network, and college team on twitter and some other social networks like facebook. I think it's great the way coach Jones has reached out on twitter and other outlets to bring Tennessee some positive PR instead of all the negative PR we have had in the resent years.

The way I see it we have 3 choices right now.

1. Get behind your team and create as much buzz as you can. ( This group includes some delusional fans who believe we can not lose and some who are more realistic and hope for the best, but realize this could go bad. Regardless this group is in 100%)

2. Sit on the fence and do nothing. ( This includes those who believe and those who do not believe, but will remain silent)

3. Don't believe in the team and create negative buzz. (This group would include trolls, and a few other fans)

Whether we like it or not in today's world social media and good PR is crucial to success. As a fan the only two things I can control is giving financial support and what I say about my team. I myself am on twitter and have gained a few followers and do as much on there as I can to bring the Vols up. I like to tweet Neylands Maxims and little facts about Tennessee football just things that make us look good. I'm I biased hell ya I'm trying to make our team look good to these recruits. There are plenty of people giving them reasons not to come so I try to give them a reason to come. I had a couple of our resent recruits following me before they committed so I would like to believe it helps. I'm not saying that it was because of my twitter that they came all I'm saying is it didn't hurt us.

I believe in the end there is enough media/news sources that love to throw us under the bus and into the negative light and it's my choice not to help them. Everyone has a choice on how they decide to support their team, but remember what you say or type may be seen by millions and will have either a negative or positive effect.

And for the record

WE WILL WIN A NC WHILE CBJ IS HERE MAYBE EVEN 2!!!!!!!!!

Or you could simply not read threads like these. You do control your own mouse, right? If I choose to be optimistic, I will.

Butch Jones is the real deal! This guy lives, breath's, eats football! If one didn't know better, one would think he has been a Vol since his birth. This guy has bought in like no one I have ever seen! His attitude is contagious!

I was a little skeptical at first, but the more I see the better I feel. As a matter of fact this is the best I have felt about UT Football in a very long time.

This just feels different and I mean that in a good way.

Not a flame in any way. I was at a New Years Eve party with a former Notre Dame player the other night. He's pretty plugged in with college football still and he made a point that might pertain to all programs, but UT in an immediate sense. His point was that, given the current fiscal situation at UT, it will be very, very difficult to fire Jones if he's not successful. Auburn might soon find itself in the same situation. And given that coaches are being paid more and more, college football in general might soon be in trouble.

He may be a good coach but if he is going to make it in this conference he had better figure out recruiting in the South. Then I will be a believer.

If an AD can't make ends meet given the enormous amount of revenue from TV and ticket sales from 100,000 seat stadiums he needs to be shown the door. The revenues are ridiculous.

Dooley wasn't fired because of his win/loss record but because of money. they couldn't afford to keep him. $5mil is a drop in the bucket. A reduction of 10000 tickets make up more than enough than the buyout in one year.

There's an entire athletic dept. to run off that revenue though, not just football. That's why many programs are in the red. Costs a lot to fund all of the non-revenue sports as well as football.

There is plenty of money there. Most of the non-revenue sports have very low overheads. If UT was winning in football and basketball, money would be a non-issue. The problem is all this stuff is about entertainment and what you get for your entertainment dollar. Ticket prices are so expensive people weigh spending that kind of money against other forms of entertainment. When your losing, it makes the decision easier to spend your money elsewhere. UT didn't have issues like this when they were winning.

I believe it may take Coach Jones a little bit to get the hang of things here in the SEC but i believe it will happen for sure! He seems to, like the OP said, he eats, sleeps and breathes football! Yeah, many people would have loved to have Jon Gruden, but the thing is, yeah he has a super bowl ring, but that doesn't translate to wins in College Football. So lets give Coach Jones a chance to work his magic!

Every time I've heard coach speak he has finished by saying GO VOLS. Just that one little thing has won me over now let's see some recruits and some wins GO VOLS

Your gonna get flammed by alot of left over grudenites, but I agree with you. They'll be here in a few years swearing they loved him from the start, when only a few are really believing in him.

You can be a "Grudenite" and still one in a sense, and not have any problems with the direction we took. I like Butch, have liked him from the time we played him and I had my first real look at him a couple of years ago. He has a personality that wins fans over.

The same was said about Dooley...How did that work out?

The same has been said by SOMEONE about every coach that has walked through our doors. What is your point?

Some work out and some don't, doesn't mean we have to be down on the next guy, because the last guy didn't work out.

I'm hopefully optimistic about CBJ and will support him until he proves he deserves otherwise.

If I had nothing but negative input for a guy who has not even coached here yet, then I would just stay off the msg boards. That's just me though I guess.

If I was so down on a team or a hire......I would avoid any contact with any opinions about it. Would do nothing but drag me further into doom and gloom.

If all I ever did was pump sunshine about a coach who hasn't coached a down at UT, I would go check myself into a drug treatment center.

If you can show me anywhere in my comment that I did that then I will. But, since you can't....maybe you should take the advice given in said comment.

This, i was never happy with the thought of Gruden, the me monster, as head coach. I think Jones will do something with this team. I'm more fired up with him than I was with doofus.
