"In disputable video evidence" redefined

I understand common sense, something apparently horribly lacking around here.

The NCAA rules lack more common sense than either of us. We live in a country where things that are written matter. The refs got the basic 2+3 problem in the textbook wrong.

I just don't understand the vitriol going on here. Yes, he probably got the first down. Yes, it was a bad spot. But you couldn't see the ball. It wasn't definitive that he crossed the first down line.

We deserved to lose. No question. It was a horribly played and horribly coached game. But without being able to see the ball the replay official can't make that judgment call.

Why isn't anyone talking about the 3rd down spot? It looked like a loss of almost 2 yds on the play, yet was spotted at LOS for no gain or no loss.. I figured the 4th down was a makeup spot..

Actually, this isn't a bad point at all. The 3rd down spot they got was very generous.

We could also talk about the false start on the 4th and inches. I was sitting right there. Just sayin ... either way I'm putting it behind me. Obviously many folks here don't understand how the rules are implemented in College Football. I could explain to them all day long that even though Vandy got the first down, video didnt prove it and couldn't prove against what was called on the field.

You're right forgot about that after this incompetent replay official made me go beserk.

I yelled to my wife about that guy moving.

Some people, including myself, refuse to focus on a technicality that should have given us a bad spot versus Vandy. I knew it was a bad spot when it happened and was OK w/ it. And, was ok w/ it when it was overturned. It's not about a lack of understanding the rules. It's about wanting to beat them fair and square, like we should have w/ the injuries and turnovers they had.

I agree that we should have beat them. They gave us every opportunity. But the rules are rules. Such as an orange is an orange. It may not be a lack of understanding the rules for some. However for somebody to say it was the right call is absurd. By rule it was the wrong call ... plain and simple. I know it was a first down. I know it was a bad call. Gotta love College Football.

Even as a Tennessee fan, Carta-Samuels clearly crossed the line.

He can cross the line. But if the ball didn't it is not a first down. It say there has to be clear evidence to overturn a call on the field. There was no clear evidence in that replay.

Did the ball? Did you or anyone see the ball cross the line?

I did not see the ball near the line on the field. So far I can't fine anyone anywhere who can say with 100% certainty that the ball reached the line to make the first down. Therefore, the call on the field should stand!

If no one can see the football then how did the ref spot the ball in the first place?:ermm:

This. I was 4 rows from the top of the stadium and i was screaming in exuberance because we tackled them for a 2 yard loss. Then the random guy next to me pointed out they spotted the ball for no gain. That ball should've been spotted at about the 36 and instead ended up back at the 34.

He guessed. But that does not mean the guys in the booth get to guess too. They have to see proof to overturn the call. There was none. They didn't even have a shot straight down the line. All replays were from an angle.

The SEC doesn't agree. The officiating team from our game was suspended. They cited both Pig's catch and the challenged spot.

So from all the previous posts I gather most admit he crossed the line and are pissed because they wanted to win by a bad spot. We lost they won. They got the first down. We all know it. So stop misplacing your anger on the overturn and put it where it belongs

That's my point exactly, the official wasn't in the stadium, he was on the field. He had a better view than anyone in the stadium or watching on TV.

Stop suspending them and start firing them. These guys rake in close to $10k+ a season. Send a message, that if you continue to be incompetent or perceived to be throwing games you're done and we guarantee you'll never receive another officiating job on any level.

If y'all go back & look at the film, the right tackle moved before the ball was snapped and some how the ref missed it.... If we're gonna get screwed at home at least feed us breakfast in bed after it's over.
