In Orwellian fashion Biden brags about 100's of Americans getting fired...

It's just like "socialism". People find words they don't understand but know have power and change the definition to fit their desires.

I am curious to how you do not see this entire planet racing towards a 1984 scenario when you confess of reading the book.

Do you not see an end game comprising of Oceania, Eurasia, and eastasia?

Do you not see thoughtcrime is already slipping into our society?

Do you not already see the government beginning to tighten the screws on what the media platforms are allowed to mention?

The brainwashed don't see reality. People like BB and Luther are completely bought into the partisan system, specifically the Democrat Party. They can't see how they are being controlled, how they willingly buy into every narrative the party presents to them. The same can be said of those steadfastly loyal to the GOP or Trump. Too many people believe in party above country.

lol.........If you say it enough, you may believe it into truth.
I don't agree with the policies of the democratic party because they are the policies of the democratic party, I have beliefs of what policies will best move our country and the world in the appropriate direction and the democratic party just happens to most closely align with those beliefs (of the two viable parties).
Big difference, and one you seem unwilling to accept for some reason.

Sounds like newspeak.

Big Brother definitely has you under their sway. I bet you practically beg them to take away your rights and freedom....
That's just an absurd comment.
We may have differing views on what a more perfect world looks like and/or how to best get there, but that doesn't mean either one of us are being swayed any more than the other.
Maybe you just need to believe it does for your own mental comfort.

“Your own mental comfort????”

It’s almost like you are a character from his book.

Help me see the truth, Luther.

Just because Donald Trump made a public request to the Republican candidate for Governor, Glenn Youngkin, Republicans in the Virginia state legislature are now calling for a "Cyber Ninjas" style audit of the 2020 Virginia Presidential General Election results. For the record, Joe Biden won the state of Virginia by 451,138 votes, or what amounts to 10 % points.

VIRGINIA

President Donald Trump (R) ...... 1,962,430 - 44.0 %
Former VP Joe Biden (D) ............. 2,413,568 - 54.1 %

2,413,568 - 1,962,430 = 451,138

For such an audit to conclude that Donald Trump was the true winner of Virginia, it will need to find that 1 out of every 10 votes cast for President in the state of Virginia was fraudulent, with every single one of them having been fraudulently cast in favor of Joe Biden... and yet, it does appear as though this absurd exercise will take place, and begin over one full year after the 2020 Presidential Election was held on November 3, 2020.

Now, which party is willing to buy into every narrative their party's leadership presents to them, again?

If you read carefully, I clearly say both parties. You're just as guilty as buying into your party's narrative as the people you rail against. You demonstrate it time and time again with your posts. There appears to be no Democrat rabbit hole you won't jump down, no Democrat boogie man you won't believe in. And there are clearly people on the GOP and Trump sides that do the same for those they have pledged allegiance to. Sheep follow.

You included the phrase "specifically the Democratic Party" beforehand, without proving any examples of what you were talking about. You rarely provide examples of what you're talking about when you are being critical of Democrats. You just speak in blanket generalities, and you've done the same thing with this post too (in what I placed in bold). No examples.

You like to give the pretense of objectivity, but that's all it is. The Trump narrative that the 2020 Presidential General Election was stolen from him remains unproven, and it has been close to a year since the election, and yet, polls continue to show that over 70% of Republican voters believe that the election was rigged against Trump, and that he really did win.

They are your sheep. They can best be identified by their Skoal-stained, wife-beater tee shirts, and red MAGA hats, worn over their shoulder-length mullets. Of course, they will have some teeth missing as well, but that probably goes without saying, doesn't it?

It's been so long since I've read Orwell. I really need to revisit Animal Farm and 1984.
I posed this earlier and it went unanswered... Just out of curiosity, in a thread with so many "1984" analogies being made, I wonder how many of you have actually read it ... or even seen the movie with John Hurt and Richard Burton.

What was Winston's phobia that O'Brien used to break him in Room 101, which caused him to betray Julia?

It's a very easy question for anyone who has. It's one of the most heart-breaking moments in the history of English literature.

Pretty sure we all read it in HS

I specified the Democrat Party in relation to you and Luther. Reading comprehension.

There's more than one kind of sheep. I agree, those who follow Trump and believe the whole election BS are sheep. That doesn't negate the Democrat sheep such as yourself and Luther.

I didn't read it in high school. I'm pretty sure my daughter (currently at Bearden) hasn't either. I doubt it's required reading in very many high schools. Although, it could be selected as part of a theme paper, or book report assignment. I read it in English Comp II at UT, but even then it was my choice to, for a topic I had chosen for a term paper.

... and still, nobody has answered the very easy question :

In the infamous torture chamber known as Room 101, where dissidents are taken to face their greatest fear, what phobia did O'Brien use to break Winston of his free will, betray Julia, and pledge his allegiance to Big Brother?

I went to Bearden and we read it. Sister agreed she did as well
Honestly though, I think it should be reread when you're 30 and 40. High School kids can't really comprehend the depth of what's going on like those who have been there/done that to an extent.
I bought a copy a few years ago and reread it. Makes more sense as you get older. Also gets scarier

It's strange that you took the time to post this, without also simply saying ...

"Rats."

I mean, you could have just answered the question. LOL.

It's more fun to watch you act like the only person who knows anything about one of the most well known books around

I highly doubt that's the reason it was never answered. In a way, you're making my point.

"1984" is so well-known and frequently discussed, that it's possible to be well-versed on the basic theme of the book, without having ever read a page of it. Sure enough, when pressed for a simple detail that wouldn't necessarily be mentioned in a discussion or analysis of the book... my question went ignored.
