Inflation Reduction Act

Oh, we have had better and more qualified choices in the past, but they weren't sexy enough, or they didn't check one or two boxes on the list. Anybody that voted for McCain or Romney should not be in this discussion. And if anyone is popping off about Nikki Haley, Mike Pompeo or Larry Hogan, they need to take a seat, also. Our best hope is Trump in 2024 and hopefully one of these Trump/non-mainstream conservatives that Trump has endorsed is ready for primetime in 2028. Trump would just be holding a seat for 4 years until we (hopefully) get a better crop of candidates under 70 years old.

I tend to agree with this. Conservatives have the potential for a stronger list of a deep bench than liberals. Just look at the differences between the lists. Only one is laughable and filled with check the box candidates.

I was with you until that last part. I don't wish sickness on the liberal Marxists but d@mn its hard. However, if I had 3 wishes my first would be to zap them all to Siberia. They are some the most feekless humans on earth but somehow has found a way to guilt people into controlling the levers of government.

I hate cancer. Watched it eat my Dad alive in 9 weeks of never getting out of the hospital in Knoxville. He was a Col. USAF with 26 years service, a gentle intellectual Christian man with 2 masters degrees , and a theology degree from Carson Newman. He was a good man. Cancer has killed nearly all of his 10 siblings while in their 60s. I smoke a pack a day...it will likely kill me too .

If cancer is good enough to kill some of the kindest, brightest, and most devout folks i have ever known then it is certainly good enough to kill the degenerate thieves who make themselves and their friends rich on the ill gotten largesse of backroom deals, lobbyists, insider trading, and outright bribery and corruption. These sorry bastards make millions of dollars each year while knowingly destroying our country from within and crapping on the constituents who elected them. They are a pack of thieves and liars...and deserve the just reward of their knowingly crooked deeds. All of D.C. is a swamp...not just the Dimwits. 90% or more deserve public scorn and ridicule.

Different kind of cancer...

I see no trend towards better candidates. It looks to me the choices are worsening. It's impressive you retain hope for better in spite of the trend.

Here’s another screwing for the American people
What's in the Manchin-Schumer deal
Total raised: $739 billion
$313 billion — The legislation will raise revenues in part by imposing a corporate minimum tax of 15 percent.
Corporations will pass this along to the consumer
$288 billion — The agreement calls for prescription drug pricing reform, which will allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices. Out-of-pocket costs will be capped at $2,000, the agreement summary says.
$124 billion — This revenue will be raised through Internal Revenue Service tax enforcement.
Their going to screw you here
$14 billion — The two senators said the bill would raise these funds by closing the carried interest loophole. In the agreement, they note that there will be no new taxes imposed on families making $400,000 or less(total BS) and that they are making the “biggest corporations and ultra-wealthy pay their fair share.”
$369 billion — The legislation would contribute this amount in energy and climate provisions, which Manchin and Schumer said would “invest in domestic energy production and manufacturing, and reduce carbon emissions by roughly 40 percent by 2030.” More shovel ready type BS
$64 billion — The remaining investment is the estimated cost of three years of subsidies for Affordable Care Act premiums — an increase from the two-year extension Manchin had originally agreed to.More welfare

this is just a huge tax increase with a lot of pork to go along with it
I am so disappointed in Manchin. I thought he had some courage. Now he is looking like a "Mississippi Fainting Goat"

Sorry to hear that. I hope you'll find the strength to cut back.

People who knowingly destroy do deserve comeuppance but many are just ignorant. They've bathed in it their entire lives and can't think outside of it. Introspection is more difficult than most realize. It requires a person to ask themselves "what ifs". Often people don't want to do it because it could lead to the scary conclusion they were wrong about what they believed for a long time. When you get there then the same people you were just agreeing with and spouting those positions with are now somewhat silly in their thoughts but you understand. But how do you break the news to them about another side of the argument you've found. The realization of an honest man that their circle may change cause them to cower back into their comfortable positions. It's more true when you are surrounded by group thinkers.

Some go into politics for good, others go into it for riches. It's a difficult argument to make if you are in the twilight of your life and you are filthy rich, that the person went into for the riches when he has intentionally avoided it all his life. This is the non-rational argument against POTUS 45 that they want to have people believe.

Your whataboutisms don't change facts.
OK --the facts are that the United States came at number 13 in the world with number of COVID cases per million population. Those numbers are through July this year and none of the countries ahead of the U.S. would be considered third world countries.

Some of these candidates that Trump has helped to endorse do not follow in the same vein as the more traditional GOP candidates from the McCain/Romney/GWB wing. That is all I have to work with. I just know the mainstream/never-Trumpers are toxic and these other guys at least appear to be closer to libertarians/Constitutionalists.

Come on with the histrionics. There are plenty on here who voted for him because they believe the alternatives were worse. I did. Hope he does not run again. I also give him credit for a number of good things he did, while despising the circus his administration was. And while I criticize him for the circus, I also realize a lot of the hatred was because he was an outsider to the Beltway and a majority of the elites and government class absolutely hated him for it. He upset their apple cart. He deserves credit for doing that, but criticism for not being adept enough to put his changes on firmer ground. I blame him squarely for the current moron in the White House and partially for the idiot Senators from Georgia.
The media is more responsible for Puddinhead than is Trump.

Stop smoking Marcus. Please.

I just heard Senator Joe Manchin defending his support for this bill. A few of you will appreciate this absolutely idiotic statement he made: "We can't let China keep making the anodes and the cathodes". I wonder which wonder boy/girl/he/she planted that moronic statement in his head.

I need to hear the entire quote in the proper context before I make a judgement on this comment. Maybe he was talking about a specific piece of equipment and was poorly worded and not making a general broad brush statement.

Pelosi Set to Scam Manchin the same way she Scammed the Squad

Remember when Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wanted the House to pass President Joe Biden’s $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act but the "Squad" insisted on Senate passage of Biden’s $3 trillion Build Back Better agenda first?

Eventually, the Squad caved, voting for the infrastructure bill in early November after being promised by Pelosi that the Senate would vote on the Build Back Better bill before Thanksgiving.

Of course, that vote on Build Back Better never happened. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) broke off his negotiations with Biden in December, and talks on that spending plan never resumed.

But now, Manchin is back with what he is calling the Inflation Reduction Act, even though it doesn’t actually reduce inflation. The legislation is a deal with the White House that includes a lot of environmental priorities Manchin would rather not vote for, like higher taxes on energy producers.

But Manchin says the energy consumers in his state shouldn’t worry because Pelosi and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have promised him separate legislation on pipeline permitting reform. Supposedly, action on this permitting legislation, which would limit environmental review of pipeline permits to two years, would occur right after Manchin votes for the Inflation Reduction Act.

Yet none of you guys batted an eyelash when Trump raised the deficit 6 trillion.

Ummm yeah I did. And the “well Trump did it too “ card is the biggest loser in the deck. That’s like saying that it was Ok for Trump to separate minor children from their parents since Barry did it first.

Then they put poison pills in the bill so it is a non-starter for democrats.

Manchin May Be Handing EPA The Ability To Circumvent SCOTUS, Throttle The Coal Industry

The new reconciliation bill backed by Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia contains funding provisions that could allow the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to work around the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that reduced the agency’s ability to regulate emissions from coal plants.

The economic package will make $45 million available to the EPA to regulate greenhouse gases that come from major emitting facilities and stationary sources as part of the Clean Air Act, according to the bill. Such provisions could allow the EPA to circumvent the court’s decision in West Virginia v. EPA, allowing the federal agency to regulate CO2 emissions from coal plants. (RELATED: Biden’s EPA Will Use New Regulations To Bury Coal Industry)

“Manchin got suckered,” Steve Milloy, founder of JunkScience.com and member of former President Donald Trump’s EPA transition team, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “This is not helping West Virginia, none of it is,” he said in reference to the bill’s provisions.

Come January 2025, I want to see the Republican president and congress overturn every legislative initiative and EO out of existence all of this nonsense passed by this clown show of an administration. Anything that Pelosi and Schumer signed off on needs to get torched.

The stupidity is unbelievable.
