Trump Calls bipartisan Infrastructure Bill 'Beginning of The Green New Deal'

Former President Donald Trump likened the bipartisan infrastructure bill on Sunday to the "beginning of the Green New Deal" as the legislation is being deliberated by lawmakers.

"This is not an infrastructure bill, this is the beginning of the Green New Deal," Trump said in his latest email. "The bill I proposed, which Mitch McConnell couldn’t do anything with, was pure infrastructure. I want what is best for America, not what’s best for the Communist Democrat Party. This will be a big victory for the Democrats and will be used against Republicans in the upcoming elections."

The “beginning” of a Green New Deal isn’t a bad thing. Being a leader in the development and application of eco-friendly energy should be good business. It is the scale of the proposed initiative that is insane. The economics don’t support something this radical. It should progress at a reasonable pace and problems need to be addressed before any large scale rollouts. Battery disposal. Spent solar panel disposal. Recycling of those things. Creating uses for by-products. The concept shouldn’t progress with a planned destruction of the existing forms of energy creation by fossil fuel. That is Bernie and AOC fairy dust level stuff.

EVs don’t need to replace internal combustion. There can be a mix. Overnight vehicle charging might make better use of electrical grids by increasing demand during off peak hours.

The leftist extremists have tainted the concept and the potential industry. Conservatives, Republicans, capitalists should be on board if those promoting trillions of spending on green energy weren’t such foolish morons.

EVs still aren’t ready for prime time. Nobody has hours to “refill” their car when taking a road trip. Any long range travel or commutes will still be internal combustion or hybrid for quite a while. EVs are a lifestyle choice right now

By the time EVs are mainstream, ride sharing will be far more widespread. EVs with small fossil fuel burning charging systems can overcome range limitations. My biggest issue with EVs is what to do with all of those toxic, spent batteries.

Plants like to consume the fossil fuel’s generated carbon.

There’s no reason that we can’t have both widespread use of EVs as well as internal combustion. EVs still need electric power transmission and distribution to be viable… they are not zero emission alternatives.

Zero carbon footprint/zero emissions is another stupid misused term. They should be saying NET zero if they want any credibility and that is even a pipe dream because… The primary power generation method in the US is thermal generation powered by Natural Gas. That will not change in our lifetimes. That process creates CO2. That’s life. No it cannot be replace by solar or wind because all base load generation needs to be sourced by on demand capacity.

EVs make sense for some people's lifestyle and none for others. This mandate (if it survives) will end up doing more damage to the environment and economy than any benefit we get from the mass use of EVs. .Gov can't mandate people change their lifestyles without pushback.

EVs and IC should complement and compete with each other. Idiots like AOC are doing more harm than good to the EV idea with their extreme proposals. Adding more EVs to the mix ensures less dependence on Saudi Aramco. IMO it would be good policy to encourage EV development with tax incentives and reasonably scaled stimulus to promote the industry but bad policy to mandate it. We will need petro for centuries in order to defend our freedom. The US Navy can run carriers with nuclear, but super sonic fighters need that fossil fuel.

He's a Vandy grad. That's a stain that can't be washed off.
Hagerty is a Washington slurper POS. Career politician, everything Trump ran against, but he supported this slick talking snake oil salesman. Being a Vandy grad makes me realize he's even dumber than I thought.

Now we’ll see bridges, roads, train tracks and all kinds of S being built, serviced and repaired …..believes no one

You know there will be lots of cones, barriers, blocked lanes ... and nobody around doing anything except cops enforcing "construction zone" double fine speed limits.

Can you imagine what traffic enforcement is like in areas that voted to defund police?
