And you guys have an excellent O-Line. Last year I foolishly hoped for a quasi-honest discussion of strengths and weaknesses of the two teams and was disappointed. This year you are buying the optimistic Gator version of reality.
Look. In addition to the recent injuries, the Gator team is one that lost:
1) Its top three safeties and one was a first rounder;
2)Both its starting DTs and one was a first rounder. The other had started and played credibly for three years.
3) Two of its three starting LBs, both were drafted.
And on offense,
4) Both its LG and LT who were 5* and high 4* recruits and each of whom had started for years;
5) The first RB in (?) seven years to run for 1000 yds;
6)Its leading (by far) pass receiver;
and,
7) Its second string QB leaving no QB except the starter who has thrown a pass in CFB,
Because of good recruiting, the Gators should still win 8 games, but if they win 9 you can chalk it up to good coaching. I am very glad the UT game is in the swamp.
1) UF will take a step back at safety. But Cody Riggs is going to be solid at one spot and Jaylen Watkins will probably take the other. The talent and depth in the secondary is the best on the team.
2) Losing Floyd hurts. Hunter is easily replaceable.
3) LB is where UF is hurting the most, but Morrison played just as much as Jenkins last year and they have experience with Kitchens, Taylor, Ball, and Powell. The depth is talented and there are talented young guys that will play, but it's the position that lost the most IMO.
4) Outside of Xavier Nixon's first season, he was never particularly impressive as a gator. His replacement this year is an upgrade. James Wilson was a guy that was hurt his WHOLE career. He didn't do anything meaningful until last year, and even then he was hurt a lot.
5) UF will have another 1000 yard back this year. It's about system. Gilly was a good back, but not irreplaceable.
6) Receiver is better off than it was last year. TE isn't as good, although Taylor has a chance to be good, but receiver will be better with the infusion of young talent it just received.
7) Like most teams, if our #1 guy gets hurt the team is probably in trouble. Although at least Murphy has been around for a while and is mobile.
Your post was so doom and gloom. I think 9 wins sounds right. 10 or 11 if the coaching is good.
