Insider on a&m situation

Texas A&M rivals site and ESPN Dallas are reporting it done. Billy Liucci from Texags is saying it's not done just yet. TIFWIW

"I just got off the phone with someone on campus who I had been trying to talk to over the last few days because he's very well connected. Unlike a lot of things we had heard over the past few days which might have contradicted something else we heard or came from outside the university itself, his stuff comes from the highest levels and it's like God handing Moses the Ten Commandments.

A&M's going to the SEC.

This is what was said:

When the LHN was announced last fall, A&M officials took a long hard look at the economics of the deal and decided that they couldn't compete with Texas unless they did something different. They have been in discussions with SEC officials since that time. The person he talked to said that all future alignment discussions would be based on economics and that A&M was ahead of the curve in this regard.

On August 22, the A&M BOR will make it official. It doesn't matter what the NCAA decided today regarding the LHN or if the Big 12 has any further meetings or whatever penalties are assessed by the Big 12 for A&M leaving the conference.

There's nothing that can be done at this point to stop this. The BOR has determined that A&M's future lies in the SEC and away from Texas and will ratify this officially.

He was told that although Rick Perry will be in Birmingham and South Carolina this weekend, he has nothing to do with it. He was also told that he didn't have anything to do with the events of last summer. The timing of Perry's trip to the south has to do with his announcement that he is running for president which will be made Saturday on the same day that the Iowa straw polls are being done.

I apologize for not having much prior to this but this is the conversation that I waiting to have because there has been no better source on A&M over the years and because this comes directly from the highest levels. Prior to that, I wanted to be cautious but there's no need to be cautious at this point.

It's over."

Seems like this is going down.

Would Jurich want to make a bid for Louisville ? What about UCF?

So, now that this looks like a done deal...doesnt at least one other team have to come with a&m? We arent gonna be a 13 team league. Who do you think it will be?

I will say again that I hope it's the Hokies.

You think they're gonna pull from two different conferences? Wouldnt mind seeing the chokies in the SEC but I'm guessing at least one other Big 12 team will try and lobby their way in. Who knows! In all honesty, I think this sucks!

Has anyone from the sec or with sec sources said that the sec would invite them if they wanted to come?

It's possible this move won't come for quite a while, but anyways

There are multiple ideas that keep getting thrown around:

VT has draw to the DC market (supposedly) but they're unlikely to budge

A lot of people want OU (to...mainly pound their chest about how tough the conference is i guess) but they're not going to come without okie st, who really aren't worth the metaphorical Nash Nance (nothing against the kid) that they'd pretty much be

There's a lot of throwing out of Clemson, GA Tech, or FSU because they are both in the southeast (there's seemingly somewhat of a "fan movement to stay southeast" lol), however GA tech left on their own, and USCe & UF will try to block everything involving those (plus i do actually think FSU has enjoyed their quasi-dominance in their conference and might - like Va tech - not be so high on just throwing it away)

People like NC St to talk about the another southern market (those of the state of NC), however there is a lot out there about that they hold very highly they hold their ties to Duke & UNC (and the image that tie & being in the ACC gives the school academically); some seem to think NC St feels neglected and would jump ship quickly like A&M, but it's kind of debatable;....also again some "keep it in the southeast appeal" to some

Missouri is also a very interesting (&viable) option, mainly due to the media markets inherently tied in with them (St louis is 21st overall, Kansas city is 31st.....as far as the SEC currently goes, while Atlanta is 8th, the next largest is nashville at 40th) as well as the proximity to the other SEC states (there's some "they're not the south" discord....but anyone who's lived in the state & familiar with its history can tell you they're pretty much southerners in all but a "gateway to the west" name); anyways, could give the SEC access to stretch into those STL & KC markets, as well as possibly allow the SEC to use STL's NFL dome for events; some people don't like the pick due to it not being a bigger name/tough team, others think the school still wants to be in the big 10 after what all happened to them last summer (academic reasons felt to be key) (there's also the argument of taking it before the big 10 can, who have 7 or 8 of the top 25 media markets, 10 in the top 35)

My point is that this seems recycled from last year. Gene stallings ( some capacity on the a&m board) said it was a done deal last year.

good point. I also don't think anyone should be guessing that "so-and-so conference or team is also now making move X" yet because, with this news pretty much coming out today, the internet is pretty much going to be flooded with every single rumor of everything fans want to hear

....wait for more reports, not message board insiders

The sooner we get 4 super conferences then the more realistic a playoff in college football will be.

Again, I don't see why anyone would like expansion. I guess the business side of it might see this as appealing, but I don't as a fan. While I think Texas A&M would be an ok fit in the SEC from a football culture point of view, I don't think the SOUTHEASTERN Conference needs teams from areas that aren't in the SOUTHEAST.

Dennis Dodd with CBS sportsline was on wake Up zone 104.5 nashville and said that it was more than likely going to happen and probably be announced by the end of this month for the official move in 2013.

We could change the Conference name to Big Conference of the South (BCS). Then the headlines would read another BCS team wins the BCS title twice in one year.
