Insider on a&m situation

Never understood why A&M didn't jump at the offer to join the SEC last year when it was offered. Culturally, the football atmosphere in College Station is much more like the SEC - lots of passion and dedicated fans. Plus, A&M fans are friendly and decent folks. My wife went there to graduate school, so I got to see the campus a little and watch a couple of games.

Can't say that I'm really that excited about an expansion of the Conference. I like the traditional line up as it is. It generally makes sense geographically. Heck, I've always thought that Arkansas didn't really belong. Oh well ... A&M wouldn't be a bad addition if it does come through. If they need another
school, why not TCU, Clemson, or VT?

TCU literally just joined the big east; they're not moving again anytime soon

South Carolina doesn't want Clemson in (who probably doesn't want to come)

Va tech is good and happy where they already are

I know we have, and I just disagree with you on the sizable TV market and fan base. I just really think once Beamer is gone you will see a big slide, and the fans will slide away with them. Foster is not HC material and that's who will most likely get the first offer.

You can't say anyone is not head coach material until you see them coach.

Depends on the number of teams....14 would be seemingly solved by a 9 in conference, 3OOC setup

The likelihood the Tennessee-Alabama game is goingto get sacrificed is pretty low really, and there are probably several options to take care of it

I was guessing 16 teams, cause if all this happens, by the time its said and done, the SEC will more than likely have two 8 team divisions. or four 4's or whatever, geeze what a cluster**** it could be.

With all this crap going on, I would love to see us get back to prominence so we could try and get our own TV network! Never miss a game, see practices, more coaches shows, interviews. Of course, it could be a bad thing, I would never leave the house.

Mack Brown seems uneasy about Longhorn Network access - NCAA Football - SI.com

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Texas coach Mack Brown sounds uneasy about the access he is being asked to give the soon-to-launch Longhorn Network.

Brown is trying to rebuild a team that went 5-7 last season into a national title contender again. The school's 20-year, $300 million venture with ESPN launches Aug. 26.

Brown said Thursday that he likes the exposure the network will give his players and assistant coaches, but says it's hard to balance the demands of the network with his team.

The network has asked to broadcast practices and meetings that he keeps closed to the public and media. The network also has a cameraman following Brown everywhere he goes.

Brown says his job is to not let the demands be a distraction for him or his staff.

It's not so much what fans want, it's what I'd be willing to bet the ADs and commissioner are looking at. It's all about the money. TV markets=money.

Very much. Expansions are all about [following] the money when these college conferences make these moves

The fans on the other hand, most of them just want the toughest currently successful school they can think of.....so they can feel proud or pound their chests about it to the best I can figure

Seen him coach met him in person several times. He is Chavis lite, good DC but not a HC. If he was he would have been one by now.

I've seen him coach as well.

But not as a head coach. He's had offers and used the opportunity to get raises at Tech. It's where he wants to be.

Honestly, the 16 4 division setup is alot easier to figure out - numbers wise - than the 14 2 division

Just listened to 3 hour lunch with Clay Travis and they had an insider on from orangebloods.com who was close to the situation regarding a&m moving to the SEC. He said it was OVER a 50% chance that they would be moving.

Now we know this has been discussed alot, but now that it looks more likely, could this be a good thing? Bad thing? Will it just be another SEC team to compete for recruits with?

What are some thoughts?

same guy who said texas to the pac-10 was a done deal?

I know he's had offers from smaller schools but none that I can think of from a BCS school.

A lot know he won't leave. There's been repeated word around the area that teams have been interested, but he won't leave- he's a shoo-in for the job at Tech.

Nobody knows how he would do as a head coach, because he's never been a head coach. Claiming otherwise is not a very legitimate opinion.

Yea, I know.

So is there a reason? Basically trying to figure out why any SEC fan would be for expansion. Are the school presidents going to take the money and lower season ticket prices or something?

Our fanbase is nowhere near large enough to support something like that (& keep it from flopping financially)

Our fanbase is nowhere near large enough to successfully support that (and keep it from being a major financial loss)

No one thinks adding more teams will water down the SEC? SEC is exclusive, it is possible to flood the market with a good thing.

You still have an 8 track don't you. Time to get with the times, for better or worse.
