5. Kenny Irons Aub (I think he is the best back in the SEC)
13. Kenneth Darby Ala (The ONLY weapon they have.)
16. Alley Brousard LSU (They MISSED this guy last year)

Top WR's
1. Calvin Johnson Ga Tech (He is Amazing to watch)
4. Ted Guinn Jr. Ohio St (Heisman frontrunner if they move through undefeated)

Arky will have one of the best back fields in the nation. They will have Mcfadden, Hillis and another speedster with good hands named Felix Jones(fastest of teh 3). All 3 are great backs. If they get good QB play, they will be a very dangerous team.

Foster's a nice back. However, he can stay at UT 10 years and he won't be better than Lewis or Webb. He might end up with longevity stats, but he's not in the league with the guys I mentioned.

Gus? I thought they were Jamal and Chuck respectively.

There, that's better.

Other TN Rankings:

David Ligon 38th Center
Aaron Sears 8th Tackles (Interesting to Note, a Typo in the Steele Mag, it calls them "Tacklers".

Justin Harrell 6th Defensive Tackle
Turk McBride 52nd Defensive Tackle

Britton Colquitt 18th Punter

Jonathon Wade 32nd Cornerback
Roshaun Fellows 47th Cornerback

Jonathon Heffney 12th Free Safety
Demetrice Morley 31st Free Safety

(FINALLY someone that agrees with me that Antwan Stewart isn't worthy in the same breath as other TN top players. I CRINGE everytime I see him on the field.)

I know you are in love with Lewis hat, but he just isn't in my vocabulary when I discuss "Top Tennessee Vol" runningbacks.

That just shoots your credibility all to heck.

He's good. He is an amazing physical speciman, and has succeeded at the Pro level, but I just don't remember him as a Volunteer "Great". To be honest, it's probably because he left early. I Hate it when players do that. I am bias against those players infact which probably affects my rating of him.

In my eyes his legacy is also damaged when WITHOUT HIM, Tennessee was able to win a National Title. To me, the list of "Tennessee Greats" includes guys that Tennessee could NOT live without.

Look at his average yards per game before the knee injury. I attended almost every game he started at UT My memory is that he's the second best back in UT history.

If he had missed the entire '98 season, UT would have lost to Syracuse, Florida, and Auburn. There would have been no National Championship without Jamal Lewis.

I would say he is most accurately somewhere between you and me. You a huge fan has him too high, and me, not so much a supporter, has him too low. Either way, he's a Vol and I love him for that! By the way, I just HAVE to tell you this hat, I'm sure you will LOVE it. I orderd an official "Game Worn" jersey from VolMall, guess which number I got?

Given that this debate has come up many times on the board, I'm comfortable saying the board consensus has Lewis as one of the top two backs in UT history. As to your question, I'm going to guess #16 or #67.

65 The former number of our BELOVED Head Football Coach, Phillp Fulmer.

Other numbers in my closet.... 7, 15, 16, 20, 32, 34

For some reason, I was thinking Fulmer wore 67.

It's a well known fact on the board that OU is my second favorite team. I just don't get all these folks picking them to play for the National Championship. They're still a year away.

37-1 Odds on Tennessee winning the National Title he says.

This is an interesting stat:

The last six years, HALF (3) of the National Champions had 5 losses the season BEFORE thier National Title. In 2004, Auburn was coming off a 5 loss season, and SHOULD have been in the National Title Game.

Steele also thinks that Tennessee will NOT be ranked in the preseason AP poll.

He says if Cal wins in Knoxville, they "instantly become a National Title Contender". Goes on to say he might have had them as his number 1 surprise team (Louisville is instead) if not for thier game in Knoxville to start the season.

He rated OU's Defense number one, and says Petterson will be back in top form. Says that the QB is much improved and that "Big Game Bob" knows how to beat Texas and that they should survive the trip to Oregon, thus being in the National Title Game.

I must say, I can agree with that, provided they can win in Euguene. That's a HARD place to play.

What's weird is I did my entire D1 projections last night, and I haven't seen Steele's predictions.

I have 3 D1 major conference teams going undefeated:

Oklahoma
Auburn
USC

(2004 all over again?)

I also have some surprises:

Florida 7-5
Oregon 7-5

Also, it's entirely possible Tennessee goes 10-2 or 11-1 (we won in Athens in 2004, so don't rule it out).

I still think USC is the most overrated team in the country this year and will be at the bottom end of the top 25

No Huge Surprise to most I'm sure, but I think 11-1 is VERY possible.

I can't see worse than 9-3 even being possible, but I didn't see 5-6 last season either.

For what it's worth, I could also see a return to the BCS with an upset of undefeated or one loss Auburn in the SEC CG too.
