I like it, need permission from the state to defend yourself.
Nope. But you do need permission to carry a concealed weapon.
Kind of like you think you need permission from the state to treat your ear infection.

Personally I'm glad she had a gun in her house and was able to defend herself. That's precisely why I so fervently support the right of gun ownership for home defense and protection.

... but ?

So you believe people should be able to carry a gun for self defense without a permit? If not then that's exactly what you said
I do not. Nor do I believe they should be allowed to carry anthrax, a grenade, a mini nuke or a samurai sword for self defense.

If she had a permit to carry, she could defend herself in a Kroger parking lot as well.
You knew when you typed this it was gonna stir up the hornets. So here's my contribution:

these are idiotic positions
I couldn't drive my son to the hospital to save his life because I don't have a license to drive my car even though I know how to drive and have driven for decades.

The MD couldn't save my dad's life at the restaurant because she had just finished residency but was waiting on her license to practice to arrive in the mail.

I couldn't move the school bus the motorcyclist was trapped under even though he was burning because I don't have a CDL.

I'm sorry I can't give you food even though you haven't eaten in 5 days but I don't have my permit to serve from my taco truck, yet.

These are all privileges; not constitutional rights. A child can see how asinine the positions are.

Once again. It is in no way what I said. You repeatedly saying it is changes nothing.

Those are all idiotic positions and not at all like requiring a permit to carry.
In every instance I would expect the person to make the better choice. If the lady in the Kroger parking lot was attacked while illegally carrying, I would expect her to defend herself and then deal with any possible consequences.
But yes, you need a license to drive.
An MD needs a license to practice.
A bus driver needs a special license.
A restaurant needs a permit.

All of those are rational and reasonable ways of helping society function more smoothly.

It might be the best self defense weapon. I mean whose screwing around with anyone whose carting a samurai sword around. You give that person space.
dang right, you do. Betcha a dozen donuts a samurai sword strapped to someone's hip for all the world to see is a better deterrent than a concealed pistol.

Samurai swords for self defense would be bad ass. The other options are intentionally absurd.
One man's absurdity is another man's passion. Who gets to say what is absurd?
I think it's absurd to own 20 guns. Some on here think it is really cool.
