It’s not a debate tactic, it’s a repeated statement from the guy protesting.

He says it’s not about the flag, you say it is...take it up with him.

Cool, If enough fans don't "support" the decision of Iowa football what happens next?

What if the school does not have the money to support its athletic department?

I am sure most of the people in here are well aware of the fact that only a few sports actually make a profit in higher education and the rest of them leach from those that do turn profit. NCAA Football is a huge majority of said profit.

Worst case scenario for Iowa Athletics would solve a lot of problems.

And do you know how many white people there are vs black? There are about 160 million more white people than black in the USA.

Ironically, that's what people are doing to Kap when they try to say the protest is about America as a whole, the troops, and disrespecting the flag. Just let his words define what his message is.

BTW, somewhat related, CrossFit is toast because the founder made a "Floyd-19" joke. It wasn't racist but it was insensitive and now Reebok is pulling out of their sponsorship and some of his athletes are done. Crazy times

Saying he won't show pride = disrespecting? There are positions in between proud of being American and hating America.

There are plenty of things I'm ashamed about with America and American history and I speak out on those things. Doesn't mean I hate or mean to disrespect America, though people tend to take it that way because it's a sacred cow.

If you can't accept that American imperialism is a problem and that our history is problematic and talk about these things openly and honestly, then you don't love America. You love a false idea of America. I love America despite its flaws.

Yep, that’s his stance.

There’s nothing more American than being free to protest what you think our country can improve upon, whether it’s reopening the economy, protesting racial injustice, protesting economic stimulus packages 12 years ago, teachers/union workers demanding better work conditions, and so on.

When you identify our country, currently, as that of plundering, no I dont believe you respect or have pride in the country. And you dont respect the troops either. I mean who the hell is doing the plundering, right?

Your premise was people were mistakenly assuming what are meant by his protests. I dont see any assumptions being made. His words are there.

Denying that the troops are being used as pawns by the government and special interests does not honor the troops. Accepting reality and protesting the bad parts of it is not about respecting or disrespecting anybody. It's about truth and honesty and the goal to get better.

You can choose to judge the pawns who are a part of something much larger than just imperialism and are generally very insulated from that aspect of it. I do not judge them as a group for that, tho I think some of them are culpable.
