Sorry, i know that wasn't a very productive post but thats the first thing I thought of when I read it. Coach Bruce Pearl doesn't need to go anywhere. He has a great team that has been to the Sweet 16 4 out of the last 5 years. He has excellent talent coming in next year. He has a great fan base. He would be crazy to leave, but I have seen crazier things happen.

Didn't they make overtures to Pearl before they hired the last guy? What would be different now?

And this guy is saying it's pretty unlikely

although I found the "tip the scales" part interesting:

There are rumored personal issues -- a messy divorce, frustration at being the third-biggest show in town behind both football and women's hoops, the presence of John Calipari on his northern border -- that could tip the scales slightly, but those things feel more like excuses by a fan base desperate for the medicine Bruce Pearl could provide.

I've heard nothing of any of these (especially the last of the third) nor would I think a divorce would make him move and leave his job. I think the guy hits it with they look more like desperate excuses from a fanbase

Is Iowa a better job than Tennessee? I know they probably have a better history but I know their facilities are no where near Tennessee's.

If one more person says that Tennessee basketball plays third fiddle in Knoxville......

He aint going anywhere......he aint stupid either...he can have a legacy at Tennessee and not have to compete with anyone elses....(In the mens program...he wins a title sometime..they rename Knoxville after him.)

Besides for the 80 year olds and *****, Pat and Co. are a distant third.

This well known, except to the people that simply make things up. I'd say Pearl's #1 right now the way the Kiffin era ended and the Dooley era has started.

I agree but we all have respect for Pat

To the extent they have a better history, it's been a very long time. Iowa's been in three Final Fours, the last one 30 years ago. They haven't been past the Sweet 16 since 1987.

If Pearl is/was looking for an easier path to a championship, he wouldn't leave UT for Iowa. Iowa doesn't produce a lot of the kind of talent that gets you into the Final Four. There are a lot more fertile recruiting grounds around UT. And too, as you said, our facilities are a lot better than theirs.

I don't think he ever leaves UT for Iowa unless Hamilton is holding the door for him, or if he just feels more comfortable there. But if he did, why didn't he leave three years ago?

Witch Doctor say Bruce very cognitive of how he is being perceived by the public since the Deon Thomas incident. He knows any success he has at Tennessee will be magnified as "the guy that brought mens B-ball to Tennessee" as he is our Rupp(success to be determined) Witch Doctor say Bruce is home in Knoxville. He dont want anymore black marks, he knows this where he supposed to be and has the unlimited support to get as far as he can take any program..nuff said.
Bones never lie.
(plus we have the loot and will invest in Peal, at this point we match any offer.)

God, could you see him where a yellow blazer on a basketball court? I think he would miss the orange blazer too much and that is the reason why he is staying. The ONE and ONLY reason. ;)

In a sport where about 10 teams really give a crap. Might as well sing the praises of Anson Dorrance or Dan Gable.

Despite the fact that women's basketball is lame, I think if given the opportunity she'd be a fine coach in men's basketball.

If she's able to get talent that is far superior to any team she plays, then maybe you're right.

She'd do fine tactically. Recruiting would be a disaster. No 18-22 year old wants to be screamed at by a woman all day. They've got plenty of time to put up with that when they get married.

I will e-punch anyone who says Men's basketball is the "third sport" at UT.

I couldn't care less about our women's team to be quite honest.
