Huckabee and Edwards . . . The big winner though is John McCain finishing 3rd on the Republican side.

I agree on Edwards. The setup on the Dem caucus pushes second round voting which Edwards looks very good on. I'd like to say (and hope) McCain comes in third but of the 3-5 place candidates he's the only one with no organization for GOTV. In IA, he's banking on the faithful just showing up with no prodding. If he does come in 3rd, then he'll take NH. Personally I'm hoping Huck wins IA and muddies up Mitt's plan. Rudy's got his people turning to vote McCain in NH to drag the race out until at least Super Tuesday.

That's exactly my thought process.

The system in Iowa is way too screwy for it to have as much influence as it does.

I dont know if Ron P. even has a chance in Iowa. :dunno: I do see more signs for Paul here around Memphis. I just dont know if he will have enough backing to get him in.

I see that McCain has just sent a massive contingent to Iowa. Word is that Thompson will drop out if Fred drops to a distant third or lower and potentially endorse his friend McCain. McCain's people smelled the blood and sent, Brownback, Graham, Thune, Burr, and numerous other Senators into Iowa.

If this does pan out, then you'll see a whole new race after NH. This would pull McCain into SC and even more states.

I agree on Obama, maybe it's a little bias though. I hope he can take Iowa and New Hampshire and ride that momentum to the nom.

on the Republican side, I would be utterly shocked if Huckabee doesn't take Iowa

Iowa is an interesting state, it's not as solidly conservative as some of the other midwest flyovers. I have my doubts they'll select an evangelical minister with a habit of pardoning rapists.

I'm going to go on the assumption that the pre-caucus polls are hogwash.

Clinton and Giulani win in Iowa

This is just another hit piece from the politico against Fred. He has already dis-spelled these rumors. Fred is in it to win!!!

This is not just Politico. There are voices on the ground saying Fred's looking for the back door as well. He's broke. He has absolutely no money at all. He focused everything on his bus tour (the one he never even rode on). If he tanks in IA and does not even break 2% in NH he goes on to the other states with no incentive to stay in as well as no money to compete. Momentum in the first two states means free media - which he desperately needs but just does not seem to be able to get. If he is a distant third or worse, he's out.
