Iowa Predictions

Dems:
1. Edwards
2. Obama
3(Tie). Clinton
3(Tie). Biden

I think second round loosely held Clinton followers flock to mostly Edwards or Obama, sending Hilary packing for NH.

Reps:
1. Huckabee
2. Romney
3. McCain

This race is almost impossible to know? I think McCain pulls strong here though

Fred just slid into 3rd place by 36 votes.

I thought that he had been there most of the night with McCain just behind him. Did McCain pull ahead for a bit? ..... or were you playing on "slid into third" and saying he barely made it....I'm confused :)

I jst saw a raw vote total on CNN with McCain ahead by a few votes. Now Thompson is back in front by 315 votes.

After hearing the three Dems speeches I have to say that Obama looks unbeatable. I know conventional wisdom says never count a Clinton out but Obama's speech was as good as it gets for the Dems. Edwards is truly finished but this will be a slobberknocker with Hillary at risk for digging into the bag o' dirty tricks to save face.

On the GOP side, Fred is done. It's now up in the air. But I say momentum goes to McCain.

Looking at the county by county, Huck mopped the floor with Mitt's hair. He won about 3/4 of the state and many of those counties he won handily.

I will have to say, Obama was good. I really don't care for any of them, but he is the man to beat. Good speech

I'd be happy with Obama v. Hucks

Seem like two genuine, caring people.

As far as I can tell, that seems to be a fair assessment. I really don't agree with a lot of what Huck says, but man - I can't help but listen to him and think he is a good guy. I worry a little bit about Obama...he is very smooth - so while I see him as a good guy, I worry a little bit how freaking slick he is. When he speaks, I certainly listen - but I also worry a lot about his lack of administrative/governing experience.

In all honesty, I fall pretty easy for great public speakers, so I could be off a lot on both.

It's not one vote but one delegate to the state convention. That number on the Dem side affects the state and then national conventions. If the race is civil then this breakout means nothing since all delegates no matter how they're pledging will more than likely support the nominee. You won't hear the actual numbers from the Dem side. Also something to consider is that we'll never know who wheeled and dealed within the Dem caucuses to pass off delegates for candidates not meeting the 15% threshold.

All in all, there are two good speakers - one in each party. My fear is that people are only looking at that and not deeper. I think on speech skills and sincerity both Huck and Obama are sincere. But I'm not sure I like the direction and positions both are pushing.

I do want to ask the FredHead guy pushing the massive pull Limbaugh had what happened? I mean Rush has been trashing Huck constantly. And someone kept saying he would inspire Fred supporters. Neither proved effective.
