iPhone vs. Droid

The S2 is right at the cusp of how big a phone screen can be before becoming problematic in terms of portability. It fits comfortably in all my pant pockets and has never once felt 'too big.' It's also significantly lighter than any iphone. Having played around with family and friends' iphone 4s I still prefer the S2, but that has more to do with preferring Android. I think the debate is more about if you like the Android or iOS experience. Knocking the S2's baller screen is barking up the wrong tree.

Yeah, its half the thickness of a Iphone and about half as light weight wise.

Apple is the driving force & screen size is what android manufacturers use to somehow try to gain customers. I would like a screen around 4" but I want the best phone too. If a screen is pushing 5" how can it not be a gimmick. You're trying to make a point on a rumor.

The question was asked earlier and I think it should be repeated. Do you think 70 inch tv's are gimmicky? Its the same principle, some people in the market want a bigger sized screen. Just like some people want a small, tiny phone. Its not a gimmick at all. Its preference. I guarantee you that if Apple made an Iphone that was 5", it would sell like crazy....but you would swear that it wasnt gimmicky then.

He's already said it wouldn't be a gimmick if apple did it

For the record - im not sure I'd rather have a lighter weight phone as long as its within reason. It feels cheaply made if its too light. I've never come across a smart phone that was too heavy.

Im only speaking from personal preference here, but the weight of the SGII doesnt feel cheap.....I know what you are talking about here though. It just feels perfect weight wise and when I hold it in one hand and my Iphone 4 in the other, the 4 definitely feels heavier....not that thats a big negative thing, I just like the feel of the SGII better.

This thread actually needs to be changed imo. Comparing one type of phone (Iphone) to hundreds that use the same OS (Droid) is not really a good comparison. There are plenty of Droid OS phones that I think are complete crap, and a handful that are wonderful. The Iphone is a great phone with only a few negatives imo and the negatives pointed out in this thread about Droid only applys to some phones. What I am getting at is, that we could probably have a better debate if we compare specific phones instead of a hundred swing and miss droid os phones to one iOS phone. JMO

I said before its a stupid comparison. I don't carry a damn tv in my pocket.

Its stupid because either a) you can't grasp the concept of the comparison or b) you can't twist it to support your claim that anything other than the iphone is a gimmick. Same thing goes for the 3g vs 4g analogy I tried to make with you. If it doesnt support your argument, you simply dismiss it as stupid.

3G vs 4G is not an analogy it's a fair comparison. Maybe it's where I live but 3G more than suffices. I'm not gonna get an inferior phone simply because it's 4G though. You wanna twist things everyway you can & come up with dumb comparisons. If nothing else listen to the masses. It's not just me that shares this opinion. You are in the minority but that's ok if you're happy with your phone.

Who said anything about putting a tv in your pocket? Just a simple question, why would screen size on a phone be a "gimmick" but not a "gimmick" for a TV? You do similar things with both products and the negatives and positives of having a large screen with both are very similar. I am not referencing the Note here, because I dont have one and I wouldnt want something that big, even though I still wouldnt say that was a gimmick, they are marketing to a certain consumer who wants a phone of this size. You seem to want to label things as gimmicky because it isnt something that you want in a phone. Its ok, there are more people than you in the market and thats the whole reason they make different types of phones. You are missing the whole point here, but it really doesnt surprise me.

A 5" screen on a phone goes way beyond form. 4" was ok & they kept getting bigger & bigger. It was nothing but a selling point that didn't really take battery consumption into consideration. Are you gonna buy an SUV with a 4cylinder engine & 3 gallon gas tank?

which phones have a 5" screen? (and don't say the Note since it's really just a hybrid experiment)

You are going to give and take when making a choice in screen size. Of course a larger screen will drain more battery, thats why they make chargers and the ability to have a backup battery. I bet your Iphone uses more battery than a phone with a 2 inch screen.......you dont really care about that though because you made a concession with having a more advanced phone with a bigger screen.

At least the power button on my old droid never screwed up, I can't even turn my iPhone off if I want to.

I'll wait til it's a problem, I guess it's a good thing it never freezes

If its under a year old just do a backup on iTunes & go to the apple store & have it replaced with a new one. Then just restore from backup & it's just like it was before but new.

This has been an entertaining thread.

Although seeing how seriously some people take phones makes me want to shake my head.
