iPhone vs. Droid

You rocking DSL at your house? Your home service speeds are fairly bad unless you're on some DSL budget plan. Or your router is screwed up.

Cable, it's the lowest speed available but it's plenty. I can run 2 ps3s, 3 iPhones, & a laptop with no probs most of the time. Laptop isn't on much anyway & can turn off iPhone wifi if anything gets laggy. Usually just 1 ps3 running as well. If you're paying for those crazy speeds you're probably wasting money. I say around 15mbps is about the most any home should need.

I would agree 3Mb is fine for casual internet usage and video game systems. I wasn't trying to put you or your service down by any means, just pointing out that most people are probably rocking quite a bit more bandwidth. I would imagine you can run all your devices no sweat as long as you aren't watching a netflix movie or streaming video on multiple computers. But, I do like having a 30Mb connection. I download quite a bit and value the time savings.

The only reason I have 3mb is because I get a considerable discount on my cable. I can understand having a higher speed if you have large downloads. I don't see where a household would need anything close to 100mbps though.

you're probably not missing out as long as you aren't completely inept with using and understanding smartphones (but its not difficult to begin with) - its a bunch of fluff they're are talking about in order to try to diss iPhones.

Well, I an completely inept as I don't gave a clue as to what all this means...

First smartphone by the way...

They're pretty basic until you start changing the launcher, widgets, and what you likes in the drop down notifications, plus simple things like alarms and reminders run well in the background. You see your keyboard? You can download many different kinds of keyboards, but with a stock iphone you're stuck with 1,yes 1.Kinda hard to believe because noy only is it just one,but it's not even a very good one.Even the Moto Blur keyboard is better, and it sucks compared to a couple on the market.

When you root them (Android)that is when its game over for the iphone,Jailbreaking is neat as hell, but rooting/roms is a geeks dream. If you have the knowledge you can do basically ANYTHING with it,plus theres so many different roms that will do some really neat stuff as far as eye candy goes.

Still if Apple would open iOS up more,it would be just as (probably better)good, more stable, and for sure better designed.

OK. I'll ask. What is a launcher and a widget? ROM?

All I wanna do is upload my mp3's to my phone. What is the simplest way?

You should be able to import the songs on your pc to iTunes. Click the songs you wanna add, make different playlists, or whatever then sync your music.

that dude has the droid so far up his ass he doesn't even know how to use an iphone even though he claims to know IOS since he owns an iPad, lol.

I dont get it I thought droid was the complicated device for rocket scientists & iPhone was for simple folk.

Basically that video was an example of someone who was already familiar/entrenched with Android and not as familiar with ios as he claimed. I would zip thru those functions he was struggling with on iPhone and vice versa with Android. I got a kick out of him saying how it took less steps to do things and then he would swipe thru five or six screens, hit an app, then swipe thru three more screens. Seriosly, he knew where he was going but I would be lost if you handed me that phone. Also, part of his problem is not wanting to use safari, which is his choice, but personally I like safari for a multitude of reasons such as stability, reader, and bookmark syncing between devices.

He did have a point about multitasking apps to a degree. There are times when a web page is loading slow and I would like to go to another tab or app while it finishes but it just pauses. However, it is my understanding that the way apps run on top of each other in Android is one of the main problems with battery life so you really have to stay on top of closing them.

I didn't take it as not wanting to use Safari but rather he had no choice. It surprised me you can't change the default browser on the iphone. Like the guy in the video I use Dolphin as my default for everything

I do know the GPS mapping ability of android was the deciding factor for my wife getting one. We use it all the time

Does Android have anything that works as effortlessly as iCloud? Honest question.

I love the fact that when I make a reminder/calendar update, add/edit a contact, or add bookmarks (with Safari or IE on windows) it pushes it to my other devices within seconds. Photostream (still needs a little fine tuning though) makes it nice to take a picture with my phone then go to my iPad or iMac and edit it with a larger screen, set as the home screen or whatever. iTunes purchases work the same way. When you download to one device it will push it to your other devices automatically. I never buy music from iTunes (usually cheaper on amazon or even google music then wirelessly sync from the desktop) but it works with apps too. Then there is iMessage, while limited to iOS users (ok for me since 90% of the people I text regularly are on iPhones), allows me to message someone from my iPad (coming to OSX this summer) and pick up the thread on my phone.

Granted it helps to be in the Mac ecosystem to get the full use out of iCloud, although you can set it up on Windows machines fairly easy too as I did with my laptop that I rarely open anymore.

And the beauty is this all just works out of the box. When I got my iPhone it prompted me to log into my iCloud account that I already had set up on my desktop and just pulled all my contacts and bookmarks over without me even realizing it. Then I got an iPad and it did the same. This is worth more to me than being able add a YouTube widget to my home screen.

This may be branching out from the topic of just phones but really these devices are starting to become interchangeable. As the harware and software developer this seamless connectivity is a real advantage for Apple products. I'm looking forward to getting an AppleTV this summer so I can wirelessly mirror my iPhone, iPad and iMac to my TV. I'm not big gamer but the dual screen function for games with mirroring looks promising (like the up coming WiiU).
