iPhone vs. Droid

And word today is that Verizon will be ending unlimited plans forcing you to change when you upgrade to your next phone. No date when this starts, but if it's been leaked, I think it will be implemented in the coming months.

and when implemented every Verizon customer that was grandfathered will have the chance to get out of their contract. I'm at least going to take a look around

Odd how they pick & choose what is & isn't grandfathered now. Out of a phone, messaging, & data plan only the data plan is gonna change possibly every time you upgrade?

It's very possible in today's world. Unfortunately, data is the expensive part of your service. All the carriers are trying to squeeze more money from customers.

Also, all the carriers are getting fairly close in actual pricing. So, they know you aren't as likely to jump ship because of that. So, one by one perks have been disappearing from Verizon, Sprint, ATT over the last couple years. I don't see this trend changing any time soon.

Verizon said this today...

"When the new options are introduced, Unlimited Data will no longer be available to our customers purchasing handsets and signing a new contract. Customers who choose to purchase phones at full retail price and are currently on an unlimited smartphone data plan will be able to keep that plan. The same pricing and policies will apply to all 3G and 4GLTE smartphones."

Allow me to paraphrase.

To keep your unlimited data plan, pay FULL price and DON'T sign new contract.

I'm interested in seeing what the shared data plans;A) cost
B) amount of data that you are forced to share over entire account.

I was under the impression that already happened.

Either way, I'm off contract now (sill with my Best Buy discounted deal on AT&T, 50 bucks a month with unlimited everything) and will never sign another contract. They bend over backwards for me now.

I still have unlimited data with Verizon

Honestly, I would tell them to go pack sand

Don't forget about the new $30 upgrade fee.

With the end of grandfathered contract plans plus a $30 fee to upgrade I see a lot of people hopping between carriers every two years in the future.

I played around a little bit with Go Launcher on my DX just about the time I got my GNexus, so I can't offer much help off the top of my head. But I can recommend Nova Launcher if Go Launcher doesn't grow on you - it has plenty of options and is fairly straightforward (Go felt a little convoluted).

I just searched for Nova Launcher and nothing came up...

Going to give ICS a shot. I have a feeing that anything I mess with will be way over my head

Well, the Nexus actually came out about a month and a half later than the iPhone 4S on Verizon.

And of course they are compared to the iPhone; it's the best selling phone in America (world perhaps).

Unfortunately, it seems to be getting stale. The android platform is still whipping iOS in market share. But, none of this stuff has nothing to do with which one is "better."

Apple needs to show something big this fall. Perhaps they can. Otherwise they are somewhat stuck in their position. I mean, not a bad position raking in the money, but you need real growth to rake bigger stacks. Interested to see what they deliver in the new iPhone.

I have an iPhone and love it, the only problem is not being able to download free music...damn iTunes.

Not going to look through 1,200+ posts to see if anyone mentioned that you can indeed download music for free on an iPhone.

It's comparing apples to like 20 different strains of orange. Compare an iPhone to any single droid device & it's no comparison. Especially on units sold. Whatever Apple shows this fall they will do just fine with it. I'm interested in what you mean by growth. Everytime a new iPhone is released it out sales the previous version by a lot. I laughed at the bigger stacks reference too. Wasn't Apple sitting on like 300 billion not too long ago. Lol. There's a reason these droid manufacturers come out with something new every couple weeks.

True but you don't jave to jailbreak the iPhone to do it.

I have the free pandora. I have a skip hack installed so I can skip as much as I want with no advertisements. If I hear a song I like I can download it to my pandora one folder & listen to it anytime. You can put it on your pc put in your iTunes library if you want.

Yea it takes like a total of as soon as it comes out of the damn box with a Droid

I thought iOS was the entire point of owning an iPhone?

You still have iOS even when you jailbreak.

*edit* iOS isn't the entire point but a damn good one. Superior hardware quality, reliability, & customer service is good too. If by chance you have some sort of non self inflicted defect they will give you a new phone on the spot.

Don't know why I bring it up with you. Everything you post throughout VN is from inside a bubble that's impervious to facts and reasoning.

Lol. You wanna debate something you don't have a clue about. You apparently don't have an iPhone or have never jailbroken one. There's your facts.

I remember you not being a fan of the larger Android devices - with the next iPhone all but confirmed to have at least a 4" screen, what are your thoughts?

While I won't be tempted to switch, I am curious to see what the next iPhone will bring to the table - I'm sure it will have some impressive hardware specs.

I said before about 4" would be about the max I would prefer on a phone (rumor is its 3.9 or thats a prototype anyway). I want something I can operate easily with one hand & carry in my pocket with becoming cumbersome. When you get close to 5" or more it does seem a little gimmicky IMO.
