iPhone vs. Droid

So I've had all Apple products for a while now (Macbook Pro, iPod, iPad), and now I've had a Droid Razr for a few weeks. I think both systems have great things to offer. Apple will always have simpler and more intuitive systems. However, I think you can get more from your Droid device.

I agree. Apple is more intuitive and a monkey can us anything Apple makes because it's very well laid out and simple to use,but it' boring phone for geeks.I wish Apple would open the phone up to do more without having to jailbreak it. I'm going to jailbreak mine as soon as they come up with a workaround for version 5.1.1 The iphone is far too limited.

I actually like them quite a bit, problem is Windows has neither the marketing hype machine of Apple, nor the open source awesomeness of Android so the app support sucks and kind of ruins the phone

They (Microsoft) better pay big money for developers that are as talented as Apple or the Windows phone will die a slow death. They have a nice layout IMO but they need to be very open to ever take on the other platforms.I think things are going to get interesting as far as phone OS's go.

That's the thing, Apple doesn't really 'pay' developers in the traditional sense of the word, people just do it.

Doubtful, but if Windows OS can match the open-source friendliness of Android, then they can make it, but building the massive media hype machine a'la Apple, that train has sailed.

Don't count out Window Phones. It's just too early in the products life. Once Windows 8 comes out and the new xbox, you'll start seeing all of the platforms tie together.

But, that's still years away. Right now they are fairly limited and no where near Android or Apple.

Then again, there's certainly an argument that it's taking way too much time to get where it should be and the project will die from lack of sales or interest from manufacturers. They certainly haven't been making developers happy the last month. Their system is just too closed.

I'm sure they could jailbreak it like the others do but not sure if the same amount of effort would go into it like the iPhone.

They've paid developers over 4 Billion from start till January this year. I think they get a 70% cut of each sell they make in the App store. Several of those developers became instant millionaires,,,well in a matter of weeks.

Microsoft will have to do better than that to have a real chance at coming a contender.

govols/cc I've jailbreak a few ipod touch's and rooted many Android phones, but my question is if I jailbreak the iphone will I have a choice of different keyboards? The one thing I despise about the iphone is the keyboard.

There are other keyboards, tweaks. & ways to customize the one you have. Can't promise there would be something you would want.

So I just downloaded Go Launcher EX for my Bionic...

Not sure what I got myself into...

Looks cool but having a hard time figuring everything out...

Anyone have any tips in regards to it?

I played around a little bit with Go Launcher on my DX just about the time I got my GNexus, so I can't offer much help off the top of my head. But I can recommend Nova Launcher if Go Launcher doesn't grow on you - it has plenty of options and is fairly straightforward (Go felt a little convoluted).

never used Go but I know there were plenty of tutorials out there for LauncherPro when I was looking

I was a big fan of LauncherPro until loading ICS and using Nova.

Paid version of LP includes some nice widgets. Also has resize-able widgets if I'm not mistaken.

LauncherPro is cool, but hasn't been updated in a pretty long time. If you have ICS, Nova Prime is worth checking out.

would love too but still on my DX. Maybe soon

yeah they are resizable and it does everything I want for now. Just wish Verizon would hurry with a new phone so I can upgrade

You probably don't want to wait this long, but the WSJ has reported that Google will release Nexus phones (and possibly tablets) with 5 companies (likely Samsung, LG, Moto, HTC, and Sony) at the same time (likely around Thanksgiving). These future Nexi will probably be the release of Android 5.0, aka Jellybean.

Nexus devices coming this fall, from 5 manufacturers, Jelly Bean onboard: WSJ

And word today is that Verizon will be ending unlimited plans forcing you to change when you upgrade to your next phone. No date when this starts, but if it's been leaked, I think it will be implemented in the coming months.

I was under the impression that already happened.

Either way, I'm off contract now (sill with my Best Buy discounted deal on AT&T, 50 bucks a month with unlimited everything) and will never sign another contract. They bend over backwards for me now.

Until now/new policy goes into effect, if you've had unlimited you were grandfathered in. Been awhile since unlimited were offered, which is probably what you're thinking.

Yeah, but you said when you upgrade. I'm saying I'm off contract and don't plan to upgrade again, so if AT&T does the same thing (if they haven't already, I don't know) it won't change my situation, right?

Odd how they pick & choose what is & isn't grandfathered now. Out of a phone, messaging, & data plan only the data plan is gonna change possibly every time you upgrade?
