iPhone vs. Droid

Could you be more specific as to what you're tired of. Being jailbroke you should be able to change things up drastically from time to time of that's what you want.

I guess I shouldn't have said just UI. I want a way to be able to toggle settings a much faster way than going through the settings. Update some much needed stock apps like Weather and YouTube. Make a BiteSMS type "quick reply" feature. Just update it to where people don't have to jailbreak to get useful features. I shouldn't have to jailbreak to get those features. Apple has already started to use JB features for their previous updates, why not look at what else is popular and implement it themselves? Much better than the JB people.

Pre-paid iPhones are coming to Cricket and Virgin.

But it will still be a $100+ iPhone and not some cheap disposable piece of garbage I see at the Kroger for $20.

Just to be clear, I'm not knocking the top end droids such as the Galaxy or RzrMax. Those are nice devices. But the market share that Android enjoys has a lot to do with those lowed devices which is probably why the over all consumer satisfaction is much lower than of iOS.

SBSettings offers a lot of those toggle features in the pull dowm notifications. Enable/disable wifi, bluetooth & much more. Bulletin allows you to do this from the lock screen without unlocking the phone as well as a couple other things. There are also tweaks that you enable & disable wifi etc using Siri. You can update the stock weather app so it shows current weather in the app & the status bar. 3G unrestrictor makes YouTube crystal clear.

I'm aware. I use SBsettings. That and BiteSMS and LockInfo are main reasons why I jailbreak. I just wish Apple would realize how popular those types of JB apps are and implement them into future updates so people don't have to rely on jailbreaking their iDevices.

They are using some of the jailbreak tweaks from what I read about iOS 6. I edited my last & added a couple things you probably already know.

I've used some of those but I didn't even use the stock Weather app because it's so limited. The new Siri features will be really cool. I rarely use Siri but being able to find out sports scores and launch apps will be really cool.

There's a tweak that allows you to launch apps with Siri now. If I want a detailed explanation of the weather I usually use the weather channel app.

Another cool JB feature I really want to see on the iPad is like an exposé type multitasking. I forgot what the app is called but it's like $10 on Cydia.

In iPhone and Droid related news....

Just read about Verizon's new shared data plan. It would cost more money for less data than what we currently have even when my wife's unlimited plan ends (which is only a big deal on principle since she doesn't use close to 2GB). You can either pay $60/month for 2GB each or $60/month for 2GB to share. Who would switch to that? It's a rip off for suckers.*

The lowest tier is $50 for 1GB shared. If two people are using less than a gig combined they don't need a smart phone.*

When you get close to your limit you get an alert which gives the option to purchase 2GB for $10. If you ignore the alert and go over it is $15 for 1GB.*

The press release said its supposed to drive people to connecting more devices such as tablets. But if it cost more money why would this drive anybody to use the shared structure.

This will make VZW a lot of money, and unless you belong to a family plan with at least 3 smartphones and don't use much data because you're in a wi-fi rich environment, it's coming out of your wallet.

By going to this (with the 10gb/month data plan at least, as I and the other smartphone user on the plan are grandfathered into unlimited), my family's plan would jump by $40 (plus taxes and other fees) and I would lose unlimited data. I'm really getting fed up with Big Red and their greedy ways. They need more competition.

VZW is worse than EA...

Why would give up the unlimited data? You don't have to change

I don't plan to unless much better options are available. The thing that worries me is that, the way I understand it, anytime any member of the family plan tries to upgrade to a new phone, the entire group is essentially forced out of the existing plan and into this new one.

from what I've read that only happens if you buy the phone at a subsidized rate. Buy it full price and nothing changes

I know if I buy one at a subsidized rate, I will lose my unlimited data, but if the OTHER smartphone user on the plan tries to do so, I'm afraid it will move the entire group into one of these new share plans (and removing my unlimited data).

Sounds like Verizon is trying to lighten their load of customers.

Unfortunately AT&T will follow suit by the end of 2013. Sprint and T-Mobile will hold out the longest.

For years the carriers have been trying to convince people to switch to smartphones for an extra $30/month. Now that over half of cell customers have made the switch they are going to take away the part you want (data) give you what you no longer care about (talk and text) and charge you more.

That is correct. It sucks

I'm sure AT&T will make changes but I don't think it will be as drastic or stupid as what Verizon has done. Their new plans are a joke.

Sprint is probably 6-12 months away from being a viable solution for most. If Sprint hadn't dropped the bank on Wimax initially this would have been great news to them. As is, I hope they start ramping up their network upgrades. They are literally rebuilding the entire network and it should rival/beat Verizon's when completed next year. Plus, the way they are building it and the spectrum they have should put them in a better position as LTE upgrades come along.

I've been with VZW for a long time (since I got my first cell phone 10 or 11 years ago), and they have the best network hands down. But they may have the worst customer service.

As soon as there is a viable option (Sprint or otherwise) for both calls and 3/4G (real 4G, not HSPA+) that includes an unlimited - or a similarly affordable large - data plan, I will kiss Big Red goodbye.

I can understand it for the pinch and push but scrolling? Seems too obvious to be patentable (<-not sure if thats a word).
