To answer that question gets back to the patent system in general (which would certainly include a heated debate). The short answer is that, whether or not there were devices before that could do the same thing, in the eyes of the USPTO, Apple's patent application described a viable innovation.

that's my main issue. They didn't invent they just tweak and then patent.

I know the original MS surface table used some similiar features. And of course you can always look to movies like Minority Report to see a lot of stuff that has been incorporated to mobile devices today.

Yesterday Apple won their injunction case against the Galaxy Nexus. The Nexus is now banned from sale in the US. Apple will be paying a $96 million buyout for it to go into effect. Apple trying to wipe out their competition/bullying everyone else.

that's what happens when you get a judge that doesn't understand technology. How the idea of a search aggregator is patentable by Apple is beyond me

What's really strange about the Samsung/Apple saga is that Apple (who doesn't make anything) gets those beautiful Retina display screens from guess who? Samsung! They make all the ipad retina display's.

Samsung,LG,ASUS,Intel,AMD,MSI,Sharp etc are really the big boys in this game that actual make stuff. I see a day coming when Samsung and LG stop supplying Apple with displays,and they're left in the same mess they where last year...Sharp couldn't keep up with production,so Apple went back to Samsung begging.

I LOL at people that think Apple/Dell make computers....more like design,they all have the same suppliers.

Apple will be on the receiving end when Google starts leveraging all the patents they now own because not that they own Motorola,and believe me Motorola owns a crap ton of patents.

Exactly. Motorola owns hundreds of patents. I love my Apple products, but I'm in no way a fanboy. Apple needs to stop playing with fire before they get burned. Wish Samsung had the balls to cut ties with them. They supply them with almost everything inside those iPhones. But Samsung makes way too much money to do that.

I wouldnt call it bullying. Its protecting intelluctual property. Samsung has ongoing suits agaist Apple as well. Yet they are also partners at the same time.

Isn't the Nexus the one that is almost identical to the iPhone in design?

No. The Nexus is nothing like the iPhone. Google designed that phone for the very reason of staying away from any infringement. You are probably thinking of the Galaxy S 1, 2, and 3.

It just seems to me like Apple is going down the toilet. Steve Jobs was clearly the brains and innovative one at Apple. I still have hope in Scott Forstall but I'm not impressed with iOS 6, Maps, new iPhone (if the leaks are correct, which seem to be).

Youre right. I just looked up pics. The Galaxy is ridiculously similar. It's an obvious design immitation.

This is actually great news for me, it means my Galaxy Nexus just went up in value on Ebay. Likely even more once Jellybean hits in a couple weeks.

I highly doubt Apple will win this case. It'll be a temporary ban. I've actually been considering buying the Nexus. I had no idea you could buy it unlocked/no contract for $349 from Google Play. What a deal. I'm sure it's too late to order one now.

I did the same thing. I would think Google would say "Unavailable" instead of "In stock". I'm just curious if Customs will start confiscating the packages and sending them back to Google once the phones are shipped.

I love it. I had a problem with the radios (person on other end of call would be unable to hear me) until the OTA update came through, now I never have problems. Ive owned several smartphones prior to this one and this one is the one I am the most happy with. Ive NEVER had to do a battery pull. Its a very stable and smooth UI.

The BIGGEST selling feature to me was the fact that it didnt come preloaded with Bloatware. I want to be able to control what apps I have on my phone. The fact that its the "Developer" phone is also a nice selling point.

Just pulled the trigger on one via Play store. Had no idea it was $349 unlocked. Would've bought it sooner had I known. I guess I'll see if it ships this week.

I currently own a 4S. Just looking for a change. Not dumping the iPhone completely.
