iPhone X

So an article that said the X is the most fragile iPhone to date. To those of you getting it be sure to invest in Apple Care or some other insurance plan.

It’s definitely fragile. Like dozer said it’s all glass. Plus I believe it’s a little heavier than other iPhones.

I read that if you break both sides of the glass, its a $550 repair.

The charger won't stay plugged into the little port/receiver thingy

Try cleaning the port. A paper clip or needle will do. Mine was not charging and it was due to pocket lint or whatever in the port keeping the cord from making contact with the pins.

You can get battery replacement kits on amazon and other places for not much money. The battery is the first thing you encounter when disassembling the phone so it’s at most a 10 minute fix.

True on all accounts and the metal siding is extremely slick. I never got why Apple went back to the glass back. I got and OtterBox first day I got mine

Glass back is supposedly needed for “wireless” charging.

Ah that would explain it. I don't like it but that would explain it. Haven't tried the wireless charging yet. Though I'm not going out of my way to pay for the Qi charger

You can get them for 20 bucks on Amazon.

If you work at desk, it’s nice to have a pad as opposed to a cord. You dont have to worry about plugging it in every time you get up and down. Or when you pick it up to use it, you can just set it down.

I have one on my night stand too.

Have played with my new X for a few days now. Overall I am mucho pleased with my new purchase. A couple observations:

-The camera is astounding. I have hiked my Canon DSLR up a lot of CO mountain hikes. Never again.

-The speed of the processor is impressive. Though I am upgrading from a 6 so it might just show how far behind I was.

-The screen is amazing. I know that Samsung made it, but Apple has done some super work in the processing to make text textbook clear. And the colors are miles ahead. Though again I am comparing to my 4 year old 6.

-Animojis are meh. But that might be the 47 year old in me speaking.

-I hate cases, so I got insurance. I chose Square Trade which is AllState's small electronics insurance program. $129 for two years with $25 deductible for any repair.

No one talking about the issue with screen image burn-in... seems like a big concern with the X.

How does that square trade insurance work? Where do you take it if you have a claim?

I’ve been debating adding AppleCare but that looks interesting.

I think it’s a concern. But it’s a concern with all LEDs right now and all of the flagship phones like the S8 and Pixel 2 have them. Only time will tell how the X’s display holds up.

When you file a claim--depending on where you live--SquareTrade either sends a technician to your home to repair phone or has you overnight phone to them for repair.

ST does not cover phones that are lost or stolen.

I agree with the article 100%. I was in Best Buy just goofing off and messed around with the X. I hated it compared to the 8. If they go that route on all of the future models, they’ll go way of the BlackBerry and something else will reign.

Wait and see, the X will go down as one of the more disliked iPhones when it’s all said and done.

Doubtful.

It’s just something different to get used to. Back when the iPhone first came out critics and laymen alike were saying people wouldn’t like the virtual keyboard. That lasted all of 5 min before that myth was busted.

Business trip last couple days calling on clients. Any iPhone owner knows the imperative in an airport of finding a seat near an outlet to plug in your phone and get enough juice to get you through the flight.

Not so with X. Phone made it all day without charging--from home to hotel after dinner--with regular use including Waze and still registered 54% battery. That might be the biggest game changer of my new iPhone.

Only with an older phone.

After two years, all bets are off, but the battery is pretty durable up to that point.

I use square trade as well. The only claim I've had to make was for my electric smoker. The built in thermometer and bluetooth stopped working. They told me to keep the smoker and sent me a full refund (which promptly bought me a stand alone thermo).

I just signed up for both of our new phones. Got $10 off each for multiple devices, then got a pop-up offering a 3rd year for another $30 each. That's 3 years for $149 and it's transferrable to any new phone you may get.

They have 3 options for repairs on phones. The cheapest option is in-home/office visit for $25 deductible, when available. Otherwise you can take it to a local shop and they'll reimburse you, or mail it to them and get it back in 2 days. Those are a $100 deductible.
