Iran

I'd prefer to not start a war that ends with nothing but dead bodies and a few getting richer. Let's face it nobody is winning a war these days unless they go nuclear and then it's game over for everyone.
I think everyone would prefer to not have a wider regional conflict. I totally agree there. But I also understand that if someone attacks you directly it is not realistic to expect no response.

Iran doesn't want direct conflict. They have an issue with support at home. Their attack did not send the message they wanted. In fact it projected weakness and showed they lack support from their neighbors, but signaled their ambition to strike Israel.

The message Israel sent was much clearer. They have some cooperation from their neighbors, and they can deliver where Iran couldn't.

Israel doesn't say much, they are a classic example of "talk is cheap" they don't threaten they warn, then act. Iran was just put on notice, there are no more warnings.

And judging from Iran's public response it appears they understand.

I referenced the F-14’s last night.
Hell of a platform.

The F-14 Tomcat
The AWG-9 Radar
The Phoenix Missile

One of the most lethal Weapons Systems ever put on the battle field.

We could still be successfully utilizing the platform in the Pacific today - if we weren’t stupidly shortsighted…
No not really.

IMO the F-14 is one of the greatest fighters ever built. I think given the opportunity to do what it was built do in the Cold War it would’ve been incredible. I always thought the camera that it had was pretty cool. I was just making fun of the Iranians and I’m sure that they haven’t be able to maintain or upgrade the aircraft to where it needs to be effective.
The platform was rolled out about 2 years too soon. The cost to bring them to where they should have been and upgrade the avionics couldn't be justified. The basic design of the net made it a risk on a carrier, especially as it aged.

The F-14 could cover tremendous range, at blistering speed, and deploy some serious effin weaponry when it got there.

A carrier based jet
Capable of Mach 2.4
Range out to 1800 miles
Carrying a truckload of missiles

That would be nice to have out in the Pacific right about now.
Good thing we scrapped em.
It needed major upgrades to keep it flying and was way too old.

Too much Top Gun

It was a great movie as a kid though. I am from an extremely AF family though with my Dad and Pappaw both retiring with 26 years service each. The F15 was always and probably will always be my favorite. We used to park at sunset and eat icecream watching yall take off and land. 15s and 16s are both amazing to watch. To make it thru the Academy and be 1 of the elite graduates that actually gets a seat in a $50 million dollar state of the art fighter instead of a tanker/bomber/transport is an amazing accomplishment. Its much easier to get a law degree from Harvard or an MD from Duke...To get a seat in the F15 Air Superiority Fighter is insane. Best power to weight ratio/fastest to climb record holder for generations. What an amazing aircraft. Should easily be any AF pilots 1st pick given the opportunity prior to the F22 with its vectored thrust and stealth. Funny theyre putting external fuel tanks on the 22s now...how stealthy can they possibly be lmao? Might as well put pylons and missiles on the wings too at that point right? Radar cross section seems like it would be 10x bigger. Anyway... Would love to hear any cool stories about flying 15s if you want to share them.

So basically Israel sent a warning shot down the street from the nuclear plant. Israel tell the US ahead of the attack that they would not hit the Nukes this time. They did make it clear that they can wipe the nukes out at any moment and Iran would not know till it happened.
🤔

My first thought was whether they hit them at all. Or did they choose those cities as a demonstration of reach? Idk.
