Is Butch loosing his appeal in with Tennessee recruits?

I think the 14 class was a perfect storm for coach Jones. All the legacies plus some really good instate talent..which Dooley definitely wouldn't have gotten.

Don't get me wrong I think Butch is great but I don't think he's the insanely great ace recruiter some of our fans think he is. The 15 class is underwhelming SO FAR but has a chance to be good come February. 16 has a chance to be great though..he's already off to an outstanding start in that class.

:eek:lol: Dude it's TOP TEN!!!

Uh, it is ranked in the Top 10....

It will not finish top 10 - maybe stays in the top 15... We are almost full while others below us still have more scholarships to offer.

The point is we will be middle of the pack in our league as far as the rankings go...which is okay - but it means we have to be elite at developing talent if we aren't elite at recruiting it.

If this needs to go in the recruiting forum please move it, but I just thought this was very interesting with the OL Drew Richmond going to Ole Miss. So I looked at ALL the 4 star or better players according to rivals and 9 out of 12 were going to teams other than Tennessee (with 1 still undecided).

Is this a trend of what is to come for Tennessee and they are not national ranked like Alabama, Ole Miss, and Georgia (BUT VANDY come ON!!!!!).

Or is this just a off year of kids that just wanted to go to a top 5 school and win a National Title no matter what??

Here is the list from rivals. Last year we got like 8 out of 11 and though this year we might get 8/12 or 9/12. Just think it is odd

Am I misreading this? Our '15 class is great so far...did the class drop out of the top 5?
Not bashing you. Thanks

Wait is there a subtle blue tint here that I missed :)

I think it's fair to say that the 2015 class has a bit of a "meh.." feel to it in the sense that it will likely only be good enough for a middle of the pack finish in the SEC.

However, this class addresses major needs in the trenches, and adds significant depth to the skill positions.

If this class lacks anything, it would be marquee talent at linebacker, defensive back and/or tight end. But - we have a plethora of great young talent on the roster at those positions.

Getting Richmond would have been huge, no doubt about it though and we should always strive to get the best players from Tennessee (even Memphis) - and missing on one like Richmond is a huge loss.

Not the end of the world though, and we will keep recruiting him until he officially signs.

Meh... really????? Preston Williams, Kahlil Mckenzie, Shy Tuttle (soon), Cecil Cherry, Andrew Butcher, Jack Jones and his o- line homies, and a host of other talented guys would like to have a word with you in this dark alley over here.... ---------->

Meh my ass...

For now. I don't think we finish top 10, which is almost a death sentence in the SEC

Is that right? Oh let's see, South Carolina has had 3 straight 11 win seasons and lets see what they've finished in recruiting the last 6 years...

2009 - 12th

2010 - 24th

2011 - 18th

2012 - 19th

2013 - 16th

2014 - 16th

Mizzou never sniffs the top 10 in recruiting and all they did was represent the East in last year's SEC championship game.

But you're probably right. I'm sure CBJ and staff are just going to sit on their asses and not fight for anymore top level recruits between now and national signing day.

I said meh to the extent it's going to be a middle of the pack SEC class. Doesn't mean it doesn't have a couple of great prospects and a few really good ones. But if you compare it to Alabama, A&M or some of the other top classes in our league I think you will say "meh, pretty solid, not great". At least I do.

But, also as I said in my post, it addresses some key areas.

Sad to say, It will be a long time before Butch will be able to get the big grunts out of Memphis, especially from the private schools. Most go to Ala or Ole miss from this area. Remember Barrett Jones and family?

Freeze simply knows how to $pread the wealth around, at Ole Mi$$. Nobody else would want to play for a team whose moniker is a Confederate soldier fighting to keep the institution of slavery intact.

Got to pay them bill$ to make them forget that...know what I mean? :)

Um....I think they (administration) tried to change that a few years ago....and now its equally stupid. They're the black bears. I don't think there is a single black bear in MS.

No way. I'd guess that most of those instate guys who choose to go elsewhere were already strongly considering doing so. I'd also guess that Butch Jones is the only reason we ever even got a solid look in the first place.

Geez...great thread....when are people gonna realize u don't get everybody u go after...ITS RECRUITING for gods sake...damn people relax....we have a top ten class with top 5 potential, miss on one guy and now butch is losing his appeal to recruits....what a joke!!!!...I say forget Memphis, its dirty recruiting anyways...focus on the Carolinas, Virginia, Georgia, Florida and mid to east Tennessee guys...and throw in one more thing, butch should tell all recruits and high school coaches that if they're interested in Tennessee that if they have any contact, pictures, etc. with that fat slob Devinner that their scholarship offer will be pulled.

You're right. This class is doomed and Butch Jones should be fired ASAP for losing on Richmond. While we're at it, should we fire the whole coaching staff as well?

Barrett Jones was a Bama legacy. Yea, Butch has shown he can handle legacies. We had no shot. Geez, folks, at least get the facts. Butch Jones will recruit west TN and Memphis when we start winning more. It's a process.
