Is Butch Over Paid

We just pulled a top 10 recruiting class... have a commit from the number 1 player in the country who seems more than firm about it and is recruiting other elite players for us... just beat a top 10 team who if we hadn't we would have finally gone 4-8... were two plays away from going 7-5 with a serious lack of talent and depth on both sides of the ball... have had ONE YEAR under his system and coaching after the most disastrous period any major college athletics program could envision... May finally have stopped the turnover...

And this is a thread? Get. Out.

Now.

There is going to be a job opening later this year that pays around 3 million per year in Gainesville, FL.

Perfect!
I could insure that Tennessee wins big. Now I just have to work on my creepy and rapey Muschamp glare for the program cover. It will be titled "Fear and Self-Loathing In Gainesville".

That's the problem. I would be happy to take the gig but I would need a Hamilton-esque buyout clause in there. As soon as UT started beating UF (especially in blowouts), they would know something is up.

I'm willing to take on the challenge but need the buyout clause.

IMO, all coaches are overpaid in the bigger scheme of things.

Take your emotions out of it and look at the economics, as in, his salary as a part of revenues brought in. For example, economically speaking, Saban is a bargain at Alabama given his salary compared to what his direct influence as head coach means to the revenues he brings into the University.

Again, take your world view/politics/emotions out of it.

Better question .... given how deeply we have to reach in our pockets for Volnation membership ...

IS FREAK OVERPAID!

The 18-35 yr old generation doesn't get that. To them, people should be paid what the collective underclass thinks is "fair".

You're 1000% right and it's embarrassing. We should go over to Starbucks and tell a barista that we don't think he's/she's (could be one in the same) worth the 15k they're pulling down...think we'll just bump them down to 10k. Wonder what they'd say? F them and their "living wage" BS.

Starbucks isn't meant to be a career. They don't deserve a living wage. It's just like fast food. Atleast I know about supply and demand. Hell, I study economics.

Socialism/communism always fails.

Chose Starbucks as my example because it's a socialist/liberal mecca as far as businesses/establishments go. A "living wage" is an absolute fallacy and a made-up political tool for the anti-business crowd to chip away at the greatest economic system ever devised.

You're worth what ever you can negotiate someone to pay you based on your value/what you can produce. Like you said, socialism/communism always fails.

Agreed, you're worth what you can negotiate. If their wage goes up, it makes prices for everything else goes up. They may think they're getting a living wage, but they're just screwing everyone else.

Adam Smith had it right 200-300 years ago. It's a great book. Our economic system takes a division of labour to survive. Disrupting that will have consequences.

The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith. Damn straight.

You have to pour the footer and lay the blocks before you finish the house. Butch is laying the foundation quite well. It will take some time before this thing starts looking like a house. figuratively speaking

Butch has earned his keep. Last year we didn't have the talent to compete. Later this year we'll see the team make some positive strides. We're still thin in some key positions, o&d line. Next year is when people will see the results.

Jones is towards the bottom of the SEC in terms of salary. You can't pay someone pocket change and expect them to rebuild a demolished program. During Jones' tenure UT has actually beaten a ranked opponent, recruited better than 90% of the other SEC programs, and developed players that we thought were a lost cause IE Palardy. He's shown he can develop talent, out coach long tenured SEC coaches (Spurrier), and outrecruit pretty much everyone in the conference not named Saban.

Yeah, that beating a ranked opponent was a fluke and everone either knows it or should. If it wasn't fluke then we would have.beaten both Fla and Ga!

I don't think it was a fluke. We had Georgia beaten if not for Pig's fumble. As for Florida, that's a really bad benchmark....we lose to them whether we're a bad, good or great team.

Personally, I think all professional athletes and coaches are overpaid. Put them in a combat suit and give them a gun. That's when I'll think they are worth what they're getting now. And no, I'm not and never was in any branch of military. I simply respect real heroes, not the ones labeled heroes for hitting a game winning shot or scores 60 a game.
