Is Butch Over Paid

When singers and actors pull down 20 million+ a year/movie then NO I do not think sports is an overpaid profession. Guess I will download a Backstreet Boy album and then watch a Tom Cruise movie, NOT.

All the financial self guru and talent scouts on here please tell me, who in the blue hell could we have gotten that recruits and coaches better than CBJ and at a lower price. Phil fulmer, damn bear Bryant, chucky, nor all the kings men and all the kings people could put this team on a better path after DD F-ed us up. Butch has got us on a path for success. Full butch ahead!

Personally, I think all professional athletes and coaches are overpaid. Put them in a combat suit and give them a gun. That's when I'll think they are worth what they're getting now. And no, I'm not and never was in any branch of military. I simply respect real heroes, not the ones labeled heroes for hitting a game winning shot or scores 60 a game.

Well I was in the military 2 tour in Iraq and now a police officer. No one has ever got excitement from watching us work. I have no problem with a man making millions to play a game. That is why I was a soldier, to give the freedom for someone to have the ability to hit, kick,or catch a ball. We do things for pride in the American way of life not just a check. You can't tell me to a little kid that has a terminal illness, a visit from his favorite sports star, that's not a hero?

Someone please kill this thread. The OP is a negavol IMHO and at the time hindsight 20/20 Butch was the best option period. He will be making Satan money in 3 years.

IMHO the OP is a realist and if Butch wins the next three NC's he should make Saban money! :focus:

Thanks for your service. My brother was an Army Ranger. He was with the unit who overtook the compound with a certain leader's 2 sons, Uday and Qusay in 2003. 2 weeks later he was killed. Sure, he got a heroes ceremony here in our home town. But, there was nothing passed that. As I set here, watching the ESPYs, they are making a hero out of a man that only admitted to being gay. To your question, and with all due respect, no, a sports star is not a hero. It's only what the media makes them to be.

Sorry for your loss. I too lost many friends and one that I grew up with. Saw a story about a kid with cancer. The little boy wanted to meet john cena. A nurse that worked at a children's hospital in my hometown told me about. John came to the hospital iwith no cameras. To this child he was a hero. You can't limit hero to a person, it is an action. The action of love, trust, and respect for another.

I've saw those stories. Tens or hundreds of them. They truly are heartfelt stories with intentions to do good for those poor kids. I commend them and respect them with my entire being. But, the topic at hand was in terms of money and the well-being of ones family. I don't believe just because an individual carries himself, as you said, a John Cena, and a kid idolizes this individual for what he does on tv, and then this individual takes time out of his busy schedule to go see a dying kid, makes him a hero. Maybe the guy is a hero to this kid. But, the only "heroes" I idolize are the ones that actually gave everything to get nothing in return.

Ha! So funny that you say this. Because your time and money spent following sports are exactly what allow these professional coaches and athletes to be paid so much. If fans like us didn't shell out huge dollars to see athletes beat the snot out of each other, they wouldn't make that money. Simple as that. And coaches wouldn't make that money if there wasn't the incentive to win bringing in even more money. The only way to prevent football coaches and athletes from making big money is to socialize their industry away from them. Then, what is the incentive to go destroy your body for a set salary? There would be no incentive to play harder than anyone else. That's pretty boring.

Also, words have context. I doubt anyone calls an athlete a "hero" in the same meaning they call a soldier a "hero." I would call Tim Howard's performance in this World Cup "heroic," but I would never mean it to be the same "heroic" as a soldier who is willing to give their life for their country.

I know there is a difference between heroic and being a hero. I brought that up to get my point across. Point being, no one should be paid more than an American soldier who fights in a war. I don't mean those that stay stateside their whole term.(which isn't saying I don't have a huge respect for them.) If it wasn't for these guys, we'd have no sports. It's kinda like coming down the food chain in a sense.
