Is DirecTV Now A Game Changer?

Got my email today that my appletv has shipped and will be here on Thursday

If I wanted, I could get everything that satellite and cable has for the one time price of Firestick, Chromecast. or Roku plus internet...basically Kodi has almost everything, including movies that are at the theaters right now...I was amazed how easy it was to give up cable and satellite...I probably watch less TV now than millennials

Teens (12-17) watched 14 hours and 18 minutes of traditional TV per week in Q2, a rather large 13.5% drop year-over-year and a 36.2% contraction over the past 5 years;
Older Millennials (25-34) watched 20 hours and 56 minutes per week in Q2, a 5.5% decrease year-over-year (up from 3% in Q1) but a more expansive 25.6% drop over 5 years;
Gen Xers (35-49) watched 29 hours per week, just a 1% decrease year-over-year but a 12% decline over a 5-year period;
Adults aged 50-64 watched 40 hours and 18 minutes per week, representing a 1% increase year-over-year, but a 1.9% drop over 5 years; and
Adults aged 65 and older watched 48 hours and 38 minutes per week, up 1.2% from the previous year and up by 5.1% over 5 years.

I'm a gen Xer and cut the cord about 4 years ago. The biggest change in my viewing habits came by not turning on the TV just to turn it on and flip through channels mindlessly.

My personal viewing is probably less than 10hrs/week (goes up slightly during FB season) including movies. My wife might as well be 0 since she falls asleep within minutes of whatever I put on.

How is this working out for everyone? It's great here. I saw the $35 special ends on 1/9/17

I am trying the PlayStation vue 7 day free trial and so far it works much better with no buffering. The only plus I can find for DIRECTV is the similar package is $10 less for now and the guide is more user friendly. Other than that I like PSVue better so far.

not sure if it's mentioned here, but you can try it out for a month with this code:

INTC1MONTH

just cancel before the month is over of course

That's cool. I've already committed for the three months so I'm sticking with DTV for now

Do you have to have a PlayStation?

I use Roku and Amazon FireTV units for PSVue.

Amazon units have a better guide. Roku units get the job done, but there's no traditional grid for the guide. Vue is also compatible with Android TV so there's other devices that can run it (like a Mibox).

I will say this, I found amazon fire sticks to be horrible with PSVue. I could usually get it to work, but the antenna isn't as strong and the cpu struggles running the app. Very slow and laggy moving through menus, etc. Could be better now, that was about 9 months ago.

We have FireSticks and they lag...my FIL has Roku and it is much smoother...I have really fast internet but my Chromecast always buffered no matter what I tried to stream...I don't even use the Chromecast anymore and that was originally my fave because you could cast anything

You have to adjust your buffer on the stick. YouTube videos a plenty on it.

How old is your Chromecast? I know some of the original ones struggle now days, especially with some routers and if 5GHz is involved. Might want to try picking up a new one and giving it a try. Worst case you return it and get your money back.

I'm sure it's one of the 1st generations I've had it for a couple of years...it looks like this

Strongly considering ditching dish for this. Trial has been good so far. HBO for $5 is also nice.
