Since 1976, our Vols are 6-22 in the last 28 meetings, having only once won on consecutive meetings (2003 and 2004).
The current streak the Gators are on, only one game was decided by less than a touchdown.

Tennessee's 4 most recent wins in the series, 3 have been decided by a FG or less.

Thoughts?

Yeah, it's not anymore. Used to be, any team that really challenged us, or even usually beat us, was a "rivalry" simply because we were a major program and we didn't simply expect to get beat repeatedly by anyone. But I see those days are gone.

Now we've got fans who expect to get beat and immediately afterwards start threads with titles like "What did you expect?" to crow about how they expected us to get beat and to mock anyone who expected anything other than another pathetic loss.

Yeah well it's not the fans fault.. Apathy sets in after 9 beatings in a row..

No it's not a rivalry when one team wins every time..

Answer to question of thread is NO...........if we don't start winning some of the games, there is no way we can be Fla's rival.....No more than Candy or Ky is ours

Rivalries are about more than wins and losses.

I never have considered this a rivalry.

At one time, it was like the patriots-colts. Two teams who were both really good at one time, at the same time, competing for the same thing. But, is the patriots-colts really a rivalry. Will anyone care 10 years from now when Brady and manning are retired?

it was never the typical rivalry. It's not like Florida FSU, Florida Georgia, and for those who needed a reminder Florida Miami.

Only in the sense the TN & KY and TN & Vandy are rivalries. Before you ask, no we longer have a rivalry with AL. Maybe we can establish something with MO.

Fulmer didn't have a good record against Florida and since his firing we have fallen off. Just so happens that te coach we had forever didn't do good against Florida. If butch can keep up this recruiting, who's to say butch wont own Florida like they have us in the past. We will not automatically keep losing because they are Florida and we are tennessee.

if you look at the UT-bama series history you will notice how many streaks there are and that is still a rivalry. Being a rivalry isn't always about W/L

TN - FL, TN - AL both will be rivalries in a few short years thanks to CBJ.

We will no longer be a subpar team.
From 2005-2012 our record is 52-48, an average yearly record of 6.5- 6 with some very humiliating loses.

Sadly our biggest rival right now is Vanderbilt... and I base that largely on the numerous posts on VN and the comments and reactions of Vols fans toward Vandy.

The truth hurts.

Even when we were "good" they were always better and when they won they won big. Honestly Florida vs Florida state was a better rivalry in the 90s. The UT-Florida rivalry has gotten to be like the UT-Vandy "rivalry" lately.

Certainly since the conference championship took on such significance in the early 90's it had the potential for a real rivalry because the winner was deemed to have the inside track to the SECCG. Two things have contributed to the demise of that notion: 1) The general ascendency of UGA and USCe relative to the general decline of UT and UF; 2) The disarray at UT, and I use that term with all due respect but it is I think correct.

I don't think Butch Jones is going anywhere and he is recruiting well. Its going to take some time for the program to get its act together to compete for the SECe. Probably a 2-3 year project from here. Hopefully, in that timeframe, UF will also get its offense back up to snuff (we are making strides).

Don't be surprised if the game in 2015 is HUGE.

Tennessee-Florida is absolutely a rivalry. This is more ledge-jumping talk. It's not just about wins and losses, it's about which teams you want to beat the most.

As stated before, Bama stayed our rival when we were pummeling them every year. The gators will always be our rival. They even said the other day on ESPN something along the lines of "what used to be the biggest rivalry in college football has lost its luster due to the recent history".

At one point this game was the Michigan-Ohio State of the south. One team having it's down years doesn't change that.

Maybe you and the Gator troll can PM each other, I too have grown tired of the subtle taunting and barbs from that POS. :nono:

Exactly, why are there Gator fans posting on a Vol board?
Nobody gives a rip who your starter is or how good or bad he looked. I could see maybe posting here the week of the game but not all year long. I guess some people get off to trying to stir sh!t up and then they act surprised when somebody calls them on it.
