YouTube - Is bush an idiot?

This is a very interesting broadcast of President Bush' sometimes less then ideal choice of words during his speeches.

Thoughts?

*Some days I wonder if Kerry would have been a better choice............Lord help us...if those two are the best we got.

We seem to be in a rut with the talent pool of late. Truly our nation is seeing its dark ages with well qualified and principled leaders running for higher office.

from what I've heard, W is a lot better in person. Boortz met him in the Oval Office and came away impressed and said that in person, in small intimate settings, W is a lot more at ease and far less prone to faux pas.

Take that for what you will, shoot the messenger if you want. I don't think he's an idiot at all, but I have a hard time watching his speeches. His writers are awful and have no idea how to write to his strengths. I hate the method of speaking two or three lines...pause...two or three more...pause...

I always have to chuckle whenever I hear the "Bush is an idiot" line. You don't get degrees from Yale and Harvard if you are an idiot, even if you are a wealthy. I'm not a huge fan of his but IMO the guy is sly as a fox. I know plenty of wily politicians who utilize the "aww shucks" style of self deprecation as a way to connect with the "man on the streets".

Honestly, would anyone with their right mind actually make stupid comments and mispronounce words to gain the "aw shucks" factor? It's a little scary that the leader of the US would try to portray the Jethro image to the world. Credibility much?

As far as his speeches it is when he drifts AWAY from his speeches when he makes the stupid comments. Listen to him during press conferences. He tries to be funny with attempts at zingers, etc. I think his well-orchestrated speeches are MUCH better than his off the cuff comments.

When he drifts away from speeches he tries to be liked and to make people laugh and he just doesn't have that ability.

If anything, his press people are fools for letting him drift away from the speeches. Obviously more and more people are drifting away from buying his 'aw shucks' persona since his approval ratings are in the 20's.

I can get a degree from Yale and then walk out in from of a car, just because you are smart does not mean you make good decisions. I dont think he is dumb I think he makes bad decisions. So what is the difference in being dumb and making bad decisions?

I agree he has made bad decisions but there is so much that goes into making a decision of the magnitude a president has to make that none of us will ever be able to understand IMO. My father runs a very successful business but has a speech problem so it bugs me a little when people make fun of someone's speech and says they are dumb or something because of that. Wether the pres. is a dem. or rep., to me it is disrespectful to the office to call a president an idiot.

Speech has nothing to do with smarts, just the decisions one makes.

Whatver you think of him, he managed to get himself elected governor of Texas twice and President of the U.S. twice. I just don't see how an "idiot" could pull that off.

Yea I used to love W but he just seems lost or something or is so far under water he can't find his way back to the surface.

I'm with you but one can find anything negative to say if one looks hard enough. Some will say his dad got him there and on and on.

Now it's all starting to make sense!

Did you have to call her or could she hear you yelling from her basement?

I would challenge anyone here to put up better academic credentials than GWB has. Quit using the played out, liberal-blogger "idiot" quote and think for yourself.

What credentials does he have? How can you take an MBA from Harvard and fail at every business venture you solely pursue? How can a Harvard MBA have to rely on others to bail him out of failed business dealings?

I have better credentials :) But then again, I don't think he's an idiot. I agree - it is a tired, worn-out, shallow commentary to say he's an idiot.

His Daddy..
If his daddy couldn't get himself re-elected then how do you think he got his son elected twice?

I think Clinton is a smart guy who also used the "aww shucks" schtick to good effect when it suited him. IMO, Clinton and Dubya are cut from similar cloth.
