Is Georgia really as good as people are giving them credit for?

Relying on stats can be dangerous. They coasted through the weaker teams, but will play their best against us. They are on their home field and that will juice them up. Betting lines make them at least a TD favorite. They will be tough to beat in Athens.
Absolutely correct but that can also work against a team that looks at "We're the number whatever ranked defense so we should shut them down" ( see Kentucky, LSU, Alabama, etc. ) I try and dive in an see who they got those stats against and who those teams got their rankings against. Looking at all of the teams Georgia's D has faced their overall Offensive outputs and numbers wouldn't change much if they didn't play Georgia. Defenses that have faced Tennessee would be on average 14 spots higher on total D if they didn't play Tennessee. The best D Tennessee has faced by far is Bama. They dropped 12 spots after that game in Total D. All of that might not mean crap and Georgia rolls UT Saturday night. Or Tennessee might drop 50 on them.

Just going to drop this little reminder of this Georgia team.

Please hear me out on this and my reasoning for asking the question that I have.

For SEC games, Georgia has played the #6 (Missouri), #10 (USCjr), #11t (Auburn & Florida), and #14 (Vanderbilt) defenses to get to their #3 offense rating at 43.1 Pts/Game average. They have also faced the #8 (USCjr), #9 (Florida), #10 (Vanderbilt), #11 (Missouri), #13 (Auburn) offenses to get to their #1 defense rating and 10.5 points against total.

I'm not saying that they are not good, just that I am not sure that they have been up against anything really challenging. For comparison sake, Tennessee has faced the #2(Alabama), #3(Kentucky), #5(LSU), and #11(Florida) defenses to get our #1 offence rating at 49.4 Pts/Game average. We have also faced #2(Alabama), #5(LSU), #9(Florida), and #11(Kentucky) offenses for our #4 defense rating and our 21 points against total.

Again, not saying that they are not good......just don't know if they are as great as everyone in the media are making them out to be. If we play like we have in the three SEC games (LSU, Alabama, and UK) we should be able to leave Athens at 9-0. Just my observations.

  • Georgia shows it is class of college football with rout of Tennessee.pdf

sadly, yes. Past five years they have five top five recruiting classes, three of which were #1. talent wins. I think CJH has used transfers and scheme to get us a close as humanly possible to being a championship contender without first doing the hard work of stacking elite recruiting classes. From where we stand right now, we have one more step to take and that step is a doozy because it means going head-to-head with the UGAs, Ohio States and Bama of the world and taking the recruits at the top of their lists.

If we can make the college football playoffs, can you imagine the huge publicity that will have for Tennessee. That would be a huge tool for recruiting these 5 star prospects. CJH can then start building those elite recruiting classes. We have the framework in place. Now it's time to "get those horses."

What is that supposed to mean? Now that Tennessee is lost to Georgia does it mean that Tennessee is not as good as Kent state or Missouri?
I think it means Georgia will sometimes play down to competition and then when you poke the bulldog they play up to the competition.

Better indicator that Georgia doesn't always play up to their capabilities. No trouble getting up for a Oregon or the Vols. But not so much for a Kent or Missouri. It isn't unique to just Georgia seen the same from OSU and Michigan

Their 12th man was phenomenal. 9 drive killing penalties and 2-14 on 3rd down conversions caused as much by the crowd as GA's D. But Kirby had the right game plan. He got pressure and we didn't.

Yes they are , they’re loaded and we aren’t and we still made it respectable in a hostile Environment and they were playing with a chip because they felt disrespected

There is a lot of "cope" going on right now on their rivals page. They seem to think we are the team that barely got by Pittsburgh. They blame our wins against LSU, Bama and Kentucky on those teams handing the games to us with turnovers and muffed punts/kicks.

This is going to be a fantastic game and it will feel good if the Vols can shut Georgia up. I've always suspected Kirby was benefiting from a seriously down SEC East. This will be our first big chance to prove it. I have a hard time believing "Defensive guru's" are the future of head coaching in the SEC.
Do you believe now???
