Follow your Username and Be BRAVE. We got this. GO VOLS!We're going to get popped. Yeah I said it. The talent deficit is too great for us to overcome in this one I think. Yes I know we've been beating more talented teams all season but we're on the road in a hostile environment and Georgia will be extremely motivated, especially if they announce us as #1 in the country tonight. I just dont feel great about this one.
I’m hopeful that this highly anticipated Number 2 Volunteers vs Number 1 Bulldogs game won’t be a disappointment.
Also I’m optimistic about the realistic possibility the Volunteers defeat the Bulldogs in a close thrilling game by playing great including protect the football, win TOP so the Bulldogs defense becomes tired, and the Volunteers creating turnovers.
Yes, but you rotate in because opponents huddle giving you time. Not saying there will be no rotation by the UGA defense, but I highly doubt they'll be able to rotate as much as you think due to how fast the Tennessee offense moves. As a Dawg fan, I love reading these posts! I will say that I’m not sure we will beat Tennessee, but one thing is for damn sure, our d won’t get tired. We rotate more players in than any other team in the nation. We’ll be fresh. Truthfully, I despise the Volunteers, but with Hendon Hooker, y’all can definitely beat us if we don’t play our best. I do really like CJH, first good hire since the dumbass move to get rid of Fulmer. Regardless, it’s great to see another SEC East team be relevant again. I hope the program is truly turned around and will continue to get better. Georgia needs this competition from another East team. And I’ll say this, I’m actually excited and nervous for this game, haven’t really had those feelings all year. Another thing to consider, we haven’t had our best receiver (AD Mitchell) for a while now. I think he’s going to be back.
We have been without our number one receiver (Tillman) since the 2nd game of the year.As a Dawg fan, I love reading these posts! Exactly, on the depth comment. Our tempo is more of an advantage than some folks realize and mainly because it negates massive depth disparities, b/c they prefer to have their best kids on the field more often than not, so anytime they send someone in for 6-10 plays at a time, they wanna keep their 1st-stringers in, more than if they were able to rotate every 3-4 plays on the DL. I also think it helps on road SEC games, b/c when you think about it, when we are in Neyland, we get loud from the moment a team starts getting the play in and getting set and then we quiet down almost as soon as the snap happens, then the crowd doesn't get recommitted to yelling until the process starts over. Our tempo combined with an away crowd trying to keep up yelling and not yelling actually hurts an away team's Defense dramatically. Those precious moments they have to try to get lined up (let alone get any coaching realignments/blitz packages) are so brief and their communication between each other and their coaches, and comms is the biggest weapon against our Offense. I'm banking on us not giving the crowd time to get riled up every 15-20 seconds and them getting set to prevent our wide-open opportunities that seem to happen almost every other play. I feel like I need to stop typing, and for it to be Saturday. They looked unstoppable against Oregon. I hope that team does not show up personally. Them being banged up helps. Us having a scheme that prevents their depth from seeing the field helps more.
My take is they are pretty similar on D statistically.I honestly don’t think there’s that much of a talent difference between Bama‘s and UGA’s defense. They’re all 4 and 5 stars. I do believe that UGA’s defense is better coached, but there isn’t a great difference between the two. Our offense should be able to put up similar numbers against UGA as we did Bama, maybe a couple scores less (factoring in home crowd and better coaching). UGA’s offense isn’t as good as Bama’s. With the right amount of pressure we can make them one dimensional. They’ll score, but we’ll score more. UGA hasn’t really played much being behind. If we can get ahead by a couple scores, I think they’ll start to implode.
My take is they are pretty similar on D statistically.
Which stats would you rather your defense be good at?
Bama is ranked higher in the following by 50 spots or more
Defensive TDs, Fumble Recovery, Sacks, and Tackles for Loss.
Georgia is ranked higher in the following by 48 spots
Interceptions GA- 6 Bama has 3
Stats that are close.
3rd down % Bama - 6th GA - 10th
4th down % Bama - 18th GA - 21st
Rush D GA- 5th Bama 12th
Scoring D GA- 2nd Bama 7th
Pass Efficiency D GA - 3rd Bama 7th
TDs Allowed GA - 7 Bama 15 (7 vs UT)
Rush Yards allowed GA - 684 Bama - 751
Georgia is ranked
98th in Fumble Rec.
131st in Defensive Tds
120th in Sacks
98th in Tackles for loss
67th in Turnover margin.
Total Yards allowed
GA - 2101
Bama - 2365
Looks like pretty even defenses to me.

Right you take away the game against Tennessee and Bama is ranked higher in probably every category except maybe scoring. But that would still only be a 1 point per game advantage for Georgia.Alabama has played better offenses than UGA for the most part as well. Bama, not even counting us, has played 3 top 50 offenses, UGA has played 1.

They have had a much weaker schedule than we have but reality is that they are the defending national champs and are undefeated. Until that changes, they are going to get all the benefit of the doubt. And rightly so. Nothing in our recent past (even last year) would suggest we are some irresistible juggernaut. Our players may know better but the people do not yet.
To get that respect, TN is going to have to go down to Athens and punch them in the mouth and TAKE that crown from them (and we will!). It just works that way.
