Is Georgia really as good as people are giving them credit for?

Please hear me out on this and my reasoning for asking the question that I have.

For SEC games, Georgia has played the #6 (Missouri), #10 (USCjr), #11t (Auburn & Florida), and #14 (Vanderbilt) defenses to get to their #3 offense rating at 43.1 Pts/Game average. They have also faced the #8 (USCjr), #9 (Florida), #10 (Vanderbilt), #11 (Missouri), #13 (Auburn) offenses to get to their #1 defense rating and 10.5 points against total.

I'm not saying that they are not good, just that I am not sure that they have been up against anything really challenging. For comparison sake, Tennessee has faced the #2(Alabama), #3(Kentucky), #5(LSU), and #11(Florida) defenses to get our #1 offence rating at 49.4 Pts/Game average. We have also faced #2(Alabama), #5(LSU), #9(Florida), and #11(Kentucky) offenses for our #4 defense rating and our 21 points against total.

Again, not saying that they are not good......just don't know if they are as great as everyone in the media are making them out to be. If we play like we have in the three SEC games (LSU, Alabama, and UK) we should be able to leave Athens at 9-0. Just my observations.

(Stats were from the Saturday Down South Offense and Defense charts)

Let's take over Athens G! the fan base is the 12th man; let UT players know we are here, and hear us cheer!!! They come to beat us; we come to be us!!! GBO

I just heard on the radio if you take out the Oregon game the combined record of their opponents is 22-25.

Yes . They will be best team we play all year. In all of college football, this could be one of the best and most hotly contested games of the year . Believe we pull away in 4th . Everyone really savor this and warm hands from the glow of your televisions.

Let's call this post a "public service reality check."

We took LSU's crowd out of the game early (actually, their return man did). The Pitt crowd was strong, but their stadium holds about 25,000 fewer fans than UGA's, and lots of loud Tennessee fans helped negate even that. So we haven't had to operate in nearly as hostile an environment as we will Saturday.

Crowd noise is key because nothing keeps our offense out of the end zone more effectively than us getting behind the chains due to offensive penalties. I doubt there's anything Georgia could do against us defensively that would shut us down better than an offsides penalty on 2nd down. It's not the 5 yards, it's that it destroys our pace, rests the defensive line, and allows for un-rushed communication and situational substitutions. Note also that crowd noise will cause us to punt more often on 4th down instead of going for it.

If Tennessee wins this weekend, surely it will be on a major come-from-behind effort. Can't see us dominating this Georgia team at home, unless our coaching staff has dialed up a really unexpected game plan, or Georgia gifts us with some major turnovers.

This is not Georgia's first rodeo of this stature. Their talent level (and depth) is that good, they have no real weaknesses, they're experienced in big games, and they're at home--with fans who have been waiting years to finally get a big game in Athens.

If we win this one, we truly are the best team in the nation.

No one knows right now. They came out of the gate and blitzed an Oregon team at a "neutral" site but have been on cruise control now. Everyone assumes their team can hit the proverbial switch and be awesome again. There's ZERO chance that this game will not at least excite their team. No way they don't overlook an opponent in a #1/#2 game of the year with Game Day and such fanning the flames.

I don't think they are as good as last season. Most UGA fans will admit to that. And that team did lose a game as we know.

I'm glad this is an afternoon game.

The UGA crowd is never as hostile and loud as they think they are. Never knew why. It may be the stadium design, fanbase age, or something else. This game may be as loud as it ever gets there.

This is not a must-win for either team as the loser has a pretty good chance of playoffs with a de facto week 13 bye. But would have to rely on others. This will be the most difficult game for both teams thus far.

They still are stocked with 4 and 5* in their 2 deep. Mizzou gave them a test, but other than that no one else. I don't like the match up against their TEs and our LBs. I do think their D isn't as good as last year, but Bennett has been tested and is a gamer. He isn't going to be like Levi's and take sacks and INTs.

I think this is a close one with us winning in the 4th quarter. I do think Bama is actually a better team than Georgia.

I believe, for the most part, have improved every game this season. I think, in the current state, peaked against Oregon early in the year. Thats not to say they aren't good, they are, but they certainly havn't been tested this year - and certainly havn't felt the pressure of a huge game like this, this late in the year so far.

We're going to get popped. Yeah I said it. The talent deficit is too great for us to overcome in this one I think. Yes I know we've been beating more talented teams all season but we're on the road in a hostile environment and Georgia will be extremely motivated, especially if they announce us as #1 in the country tonight. I just dont feel great about this one.
