Is Huepel bad at recruiting?

Nobody is recruiting with the elites really.
Nope. That's why they're at the top every year. Doesn't seem to change. NIL ,Portal doesn't matter. You would think we'd be knocking it out of the park with how everyone says we have one of the best NIL deals out there. Top 15 classes are good but not enough to move the needle against the elite teams..

Collusion in sports, big money teams are needed for revenue, it will never change
Alabama started paying players years earlier than most, that's how their dynasty started, Georgia is keeping players at home for past 5 years, now they their dynasty.
How do we build and maintain ours, 9-3 seems the best we can do on average.

No they did not. Wright, Sampson and Small where Pruitt recruits. Beasley, Banks, Young Baron, Pruitt recruits. Tillman, Hyatt and Keyton, Pruitt also. And Hooker was committed under Pruitt. So no, all of Pruitts recruits were not gone.
Sampson had no interest while Pruitt was HC.

People keep saying it but there are 2 elite teams in recruiting this year and neither made the playoffs. 3-20 are all within a frogs hair of each other.

I'm hoping the 12 team playoff will bring more balance and some variety back to college football. It's top heavy right now with the same suspects every year.

Looks like Kiffin is going to end up with the good receiver transfer from South Carolina ...........Juice Wells ! Hope not because we thought we were going to get him. However, Kiffin is a real recruiter.

We thought UT was going to get him?

No he really isn’t. Kiffin has lost his edge recruiting high school players. I have a Bama friend who said he got lazy there.

He’s been recruiting the portal harder. Wells’ injury history seem to keep others away.

It’s the major knock on him that we heard when he came here from UCF, that his recruiting classes kept getting worse and he continued to look for diamonds in the rough that just weren’t there. I’m not trying to be reactionary but with the resources we have this shouldn’t be happening. Butch was able to put together better classes without NIL and much less success. What are y’all’s thoughts?
How much money do you donate?

There are 2 metrics in the recruiting polls, the composite which takes into account the numbers of total commits you have, we're 13/14. Then there's the average rating of your commits, we're 6th. We simply haven't got as many commits as several of the schools ahead of us, but the average quality of who we have is ahead of theirs. The sky is nor falling...at least yet
I'm well aware of how the polls work. Tennessee have no more elite recruits left on the board. That average that you keep drooling over will drop significantly by signing day.

Like it or not we haven't been relative in the past decade and a half, last two years withstanding. Our program was a literal dumpster fire at the end of the Pruitt era and we had scholarship reductions that carried into this season. We still don't know how good CJH is, but considering what he's done recruiting thus far I'd say he's at least a very good recruiter. I'm not saying he needs another 5 years to get it together but I'm saying if he finishes with a class at 10-12 and has a 10 win season next year we could see a much higher rated class next year. Stability and winning cures a lot of woes. I'm pleased with the current progression but do agree the next step is making a jump in recruiting.
Tennessee will have a hard time getting 10.wins next season, which will be year 4 in the Heupel era.
