if i am going to lean toward questionable at recruiting in this one example, it is this.. i think that heupel himself, and the offensive staff as a whole, did not set this team up for success by getting caught up in the joe milton hype a second time and not bringing in another solid tier 2 QB to be the backup and be there in case milton just didnt work out a second time. that decision boxed him into a corner where it was milton or bust, and the results were an OK season that failed to capitalize on the momentum from last year and really in one sense has set our recruiting back at least a year as it pertains to playmakers. i say that even though they have matthews committed, but the knock on heupel a year ago was "can his offense develop players for the NFL?" You then had last year and the thought for a lot of people (even on here) was "well, you can just plug any old WR in this offense and it will make them stars. dont worry about recruiting 5* recievers, he can make a 3* a 5* just by putting him out on the field" Now, after this year, if i were recruiting against TN, my argument to a QB or WR would be "the rest of the SEC has figured out his scheme and now they are a running team. you want to go there and block as a WR or handoff as a QB?" Now, this year, i see a few guys in the transfer portal who could help us and in the case of two (Nolen and Wells) i hear that the asking price is too high. I am sorry, but i can understand a lot of things as to why the did not pursue a player, but i cannot accept anyone saying the price is too high. the price has never been too high over there for anything. Fire a coach, stroke a check.. Revamp a locker room, stroke a check.. Dont want to hurt Fulmers feelings, stroke a second check to run him off. So to tell me they cant stoke whatever check to bring in the top transfer player at a position of need, nah, dont try to sell me that. i will believe a lot about that place, but not able to afford whatever they want, is not one of them
