Is Jeff Walz a good investment?

I don’t think being concerned about a $10 million investment in a coach ‘nitpicking’.

We just came off the worst season in school history and we are going to nitpick about a #1 seed losing to UConn in the Elite 8? Ok.

Wish fans had been that nitpicky with Holly when the warning signs that she wouldn't cut it have been there from the start.

Regardless, it won't be Walz so everyone should just leave it alone. Our focus should be with us not getting stuck with Kellie, TBH. The more I think about the scenario the more I believe she isn't the answer, even among former LVs.

He is by far the best choice out there out of realistic choices that have had long term success as a HC. It's not even close. That was my point.

If you don't want Walz you don't want anyone if we're talking about team and coaching success.

You can't really whine about a coach not making a FF when said coach has been to three FFs in the timespan when your program last got to one.

How did that work out for Texas with Gail Goestenkors?

I don't know GG's frame of mind
That was years ago
she may have been on her way to mentally retiring when the TX thing came up
I studied the game, not the game's people then
Only now have I smartened up enough to know my foe, too

In 2007, Texas gave Gale Goestenkors a 7 year contract, with a starting salary of $1.25 million.

She looked like great hire...How did that work out for them?!

I'm back and forth on Walz but was pretty impressed with his team today. They fought hard in a road environment and definitely couldve won if UCONN didnt rain 3s.

GG wasnt able to recruit as well at Texas and the program was a rebuilding project. Tennessee has a top 10 roster coming back....they just need someone who can actually coach and develop talent.

I'm not really sure what your point is. Do you even have one?

Nick Saban and John Calipari had national championships under the belts...so far that’s been an elusive goal for Walz.

Calipari had zero and Saban had only 1. And since Walz took over UL, only 4 other teams besides Tennessee and UCONN have won the title. So if that's what you're looking for, you will be disappointed.

Sorry, but is your comprehension limited to 144 characters?

Um. No. Is your ability to actually follow up on your point limited in some capacity?

I mean, it's clear you don't want Walz. And that's fine. If not him, then who? And why?

This thread is about Walz. He's the one that started the thread and I'm sure he remembers that.

I'm not really sure what she has to do w/ Walz and moreover I'm not sure what that has to do with Walz coming to Tennessee. That GG was a sure hire and it turned out badly? Um, ok. And? Once again, if not Walz, then who?

No, that’s not what happened at all. Goestenkors was at the peak of her career and was consistently successful at the time, and didn’t leave Duke because she was burned out. She left because she was deeply hurt that, despite all that success, Duke made ZERO effort to keep her when Texas came calling with big bucks to lure her to Austin.

GG absolutely did NOT want to leave Duke, but when the Duke AD’s reaction to Texas trying to steal her away was, essentially, “We wish you well in your future endeavors,” she kinda felt like she HAD to go. Many thought that pretty much all Duke really needed to do to keep Gail was to say, “We apppreciate you and really want you to stay!” But nope.

Duke was never the same after that, and Texas was no better off, either, after hiring a coach whose heart never left Durham. Duke’s clear message that they didn’t care one iota about it’s women’s basketball program ended a dynasty.
