Is Judaism a Race

Yes there are people born into religions. Yazidism and Mandeaism are two examples. Please stop blatantly spreading false information.
Isn't anyone whose parents are religious born into a religion? If your folks are Hindu and you're raised a Hindu then aren't you born into Hinduism? Same with Lutherans, etc.

You do make a good points. I specifically mentioned Yazidism and Mandeaism because they do not accept converts. Why? Because one has to be born into those religions. I don't think one can even marry into either religion either.

So Whoopi Goldberg is suspended for 2 weeks from her TV show for making the following comment:

“Let’s be truthful about it because the Holocaust isn’t about race. No. It’s not about race!”

Whoopi was then called out for defining the basis of the Holocaust as the Jewish "race".

ABC News president Kim Godwin announced on Tuesday, “Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments,” Godwin said.

Whoopi apologized.

In a note to staff, ABC News prez Kim Godwin says, "While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”

Help me out here... how is Judaism a race? I'm the color (READ: RACE) that I am. Pretty confident I cannot at anytime change my race. Yet, at anytime I can convert to Judaism and become a "Jew". Right?!?

So, then, how is Whoopi wrong when she says the Holocaust is NOT based on race? Seems to me, Hitler hated people of the Jewish faith, hence the basis for the Holocaust. He hated them because of their religious beliefs, not the color of their skin (READ: RACE). Right?

Hmmm. So, I Google the question, "Is Judaism a race?".

Here are quotes from the articles:

First source: "Jews in the City":

"Religion, of course, is a belief system.

So where does Judaism fit into these categories?

Race, insofar as it exists at all, is a function of DNA. While there is a cluster of genes associated with being Jewish, non-Jewish people can possess those genes, and there are entire Jewish communities that don’t have them (presumably because these communities became isolated before those haplotype markers entered the DNA). Finally, a person can’t change his race but a person who isn’t Jewish can become Jewish. So it’s not looking good to define Judaism as a race.[1]

...So, if Judaism is not a race, nor an ethnicity, nor is it limited to religion, then what is it?"

Next source: "The AISH Rabbi Responds":

"To categorize Judaism "only" as a religion is a misunderstanding. The Jewish people are a nation, who share a common land (Israel), a common religion (Judaism) and a common history (dating back to Abraham).

What is amazing is how the Jews have maintained their distinct national identity having been scattered to the four corners of the globe. This achievement was possible only because of our adherence to the Torah, the "constitution" of the Jewish people. The Torah lays out the scope of personal rights and obligations, as well as laws covering lifecycle, business practice, medical ethics, parenting, married life, etc. Observance of the Torah was thus the thread which kept the Jewish people alive, and thriving, in every place and time.

Judaism cannot be classified as a race, because anyone can become a Jew by converting. The convert is considered a Jew in every regard, and his relationship with God is the same level as that of every other Jew. Come to Israel and you will find black Jews, oriental Jews, Indian Jews, etc."

Mkay. I give up.

Not trying to be "racist" here. I could care less what other people's religious beliefs are as long as they don't impede on my life.

So how is Whoopi wrong? How is this not cancel culture at its worst?

Given that I am Christian, is it now politically correct to refer to me as belonging to the "Christian race"?

Taking this one step further, if one were to argue that Judaism is a race but Christianity isn't, then ironically how is this not - in fact - racist?
Let me ask this, didn't Democrats accuse anyone criticizing muslims as racist? How can anyone say Jews aren't a race, yet call someone racist for criticizing a Muslim? I'm not being smart, but this stuff is what kills me as an independent. Republicans have many issues, but Democrats are the biggest hypocrites I've ever seen in my life. This just being one example, and whoopi called trump racist for banning flights from Muslim countries herself. It's almost laughable at the hypocritical things, but it's more sad.

That's interesting. I didn't know they were so exclusionary.

Forest for the trees.

Regardless of whether Judaism is a "race," Hitler portrayed them as such and that was his subjective motivation. Thus, it was racism in practice, whether the technical label applied or not.

Hitler didn't portray them as a race in the sense that he wasn't the one who came up with the notion of a Jewish race. The characterization of the Jews as a race dates well back in European society to the Plague and their labeling as a separate race was used to justify their exclusion. When the Final Solution was implemented the notion of the Jew as a distinct, inferior race was well established in much of European society. Those labels don't make them any more true than the propaganda used to describe them physically and fiscally.

no one is born into a religion, it’s not an opinion it’s a fact. Now you may live in a country with a gun stuck to your head where you have to be a certain religion or face consequences but that’s still a choice. Judaism is considered a major world religion whether you like it or not but it’s not given that role because it has a huge number of followers. It doesn’t but it has had major impact on the largest two religions in the world. Those are simply facts

Of course virtually EVERYONE is born into a religion. Gimme a break.

I'd wager 80% of the posters here are the EXACT religion (or non religion) that their parents are/were.

You do realize religion is a belief, not a physical or cultural trait? Simply because you are or may be what your parents are doesn't mean you don't have a choice. You may disagree with it but that is the very definition of a religion.

Hitler absolutely did see the Jews as another race, true he wasn't close to being the first to express this view.

From Mein Kampf:

All the human culture, all the results of art, science, and technology that we see before
us today, are almost exclusively the product of the Aryan. ... If we were to divide
mankind into three groups, the founders of culture, the bearers of culture, the destroyers
of culture, only the Aryan could be considered as the representative of the first group.
From him originate the foundations and walls of all human creation.... Hence it is no
accident that the first cultures arose in places where the Aryan, in his encounters with
lower peoples, subjected them and bent them to his will. ... As soon as the subjected
people began to raise themselves up and probably approached the conqueror in
language, the sharp dividing wall between master and servant fell. The Aryan gave up
the purity of his blood, and ... lost his cultural capacity, until at last, not only mentally but
also physically, he began to resemble the subjected aborigines more than his own
ancestors.
Blood mixture and the resultant drop in racial level is the sole cause of the dying out of
old cultures.
The mightiest counterpart to the Aryan is represented by the Jew.

For a racially pure people which is conscious of its blood can never be enslaved by the
Jew. In this world he will forever be master over bastards and bastards alone. And so he
tries systematically to lower the racial level by a continuous poisoning of individuals.

Is this part of the “Why”?

If the Holocaust was based on a racist ideology and the Jews were targeted based on their race - then there is no other experience in human history that can compare. All else falls short.

That might be threatening to some?
Who was it, Chris Rock? A black comedian had a whole bit about not comparing history of suffering with Jews. It's literally in their religion.

There is literally a whole book in the Torah/bible about the Jews being slaves, and escaping or exodusing.

Not to mention they aren't even supposed to eat a cheeseburger. No chili cheese dogs, no philly cheese steaks, these people are a gluten for punishment....

What year did you earn your coon skin cap?
Jr? Sr? Never?
How old are you? If you’re anywhere near 50 years old I’d say we know each other.

Heh. Swam 86/87.

Came in with a class of 11. Only 2 made it the whole time... Eric Topp and John Roy.

Bussard was at the tail end of his career.

Maybe it's something in their DNA....

Maybe.

I will never forget going to a Kosher restaurant in Manhattan with my wife's partners, I asked for cheese whatever dish I was having and it was like the music stopped. It had beef in it.

Or saying China Virus by Trump being deemed racist but no issues with Hillary saying "superpredators" in regards to inner city youth.
