Is Kurt Warner a Hall Of Famer

of course no other HOF qb has ever had any talent around him before.
He's been especially fortunate in that regard. He didn't exactly light it up in New York when he had less talent around him.

Also, isn't it hard to make a case for a guy with only three, maybe four, really good seasons up to this point, no matter how good those seasons were?

Joe Namath has more career Int's than td's.

He made on a guarantee.

If he's a HOFer Warner is.

yes, and i think the career stats will wind up being important. it's kind of like why Art Monk and Lynn Swann get debated on so much...

anyway, if he has enough longevity in the league to get him in the top 12 all time in yards etc.....his post season acccomplishments, MVP's etc...will come in to play.

i can see a good case being made for him one day.

that said, i still don't think anyone will ever confuse him with Joe Montana or Tom Brady or Peyton Manning. i wouldn't call hime a dominant qb by any stretch.

but as journey men go, no one has done it better. He's Steve Deberg with a ring....if that makes sense.

Of course stats have a role to play. They're about what you did personally.

The number of SB rings should also have a key, as they speak to how well you played on a team... but stats show what you were able to do against the best talent in the entire game.

Regardless of his receivers, he still has to get it to them. And he's done that.

In fairness to Warner, it is hard to judge him after playing only 10 games in NY. They were only keeping the seat warm for Eli.

As far as 3 or 4 good seasons, That was good enough for Namath. I count 5 great seasons Warner had. 1999-2001 and 2007-2008.

If when the Jet's won the SB with Namath, they had the same amount and type of media coverage, namath would never be a HOF qb.

he mad a career off one game and one statement to the media. the reality is Namath wasn't that great.

yeah, it's not as if it were his worst season ever.

Thanks for showing me the light. I didn't realize that Bruce's stats were that good.

I've just always thought of Holt being the better WR when they played together

has everyone forgotten that move that bruce made while the ball was in the air to catch the super bowl winning td against the titans. not to mention the run after. the guy will be in the hof and that catch and score will be the main highlight.

For the record.. Montana was probably going to make it before Jerry Rice came along. He had already won 2 SBs. Rice just made the last 2 really fun to watch.

i was for the niners in the first sb. the other four i was against them. therefore, no it wasn't very fun to watch.

This is an interesting thread.

When the OP started it in October, I didn't think Warner was an HOF qb. That's not to say he hadn't had a great career with tons of yards, TDs, a pair of MVPs and a Super Bowl...I just didn't think he was an all-time great.

I'm still not certain he's elite, but I think his case for HOF is damn strong....especially if he guides his team to a victory next Sunday. Who'd have thought when the Cards drafted Leinart, that Warner would have an MVP-caliber season and lead them on an improbable run to the Super Bowl 3 years later? And, the guy has another good year or two left in the tank.

Holt was the better player for most of the years that he and Bruce played together. Bruce compiled most of his stats before Holt arrived in the NFL.

in my opinion.....he should be in one day.

guy holds the top 3 spots in SB history for yards, has a ring, took 2 different teams to the big one......the stats aren't exactly awful. the guy is a bonafied leader.

imo he deserves it. They didn't lose last night because of Warner.

31/43 377 yards 3TD/1INT 112.3 rating

Pretty good days work.... but he lost. That is what will be remembered unfortunately. Regardless that he did that against the #1 statistical defense in the NFL.

well, he does already have a ring. and that's one more than JIm Kelly or Fran Tarkenton or Dan Marino.

the great thing about the HOF selections is they get debated, heavily. i think the debate over Warner will be extremely interesting, and i'd love to be in the room when they have it.
