Is Mike Bobo the O.C that will beat the Vols.

How about dry with highs over 100 since the 2nd week of June? Felt like 114 yesterday! I'm at a point I would welcome a hurricane to blow this damn heat dome out of here.
IME the weather behind a hurricane is great because the storm sucks all the water from the air.
I have been to AZ four times, and 119 and low humidity is not as bad as this weekend's weather will be.

Remember that heat wave of 2012? It was over 100 for about two weeks and reached 110 at my house two different days. I was at UTM for the first couple of days and A/C was never kicking off.

One Afternoon, I bought a case of Cokes at Piggly Wiggly, put them in the passenger's floorboard, then drove to the gas station and filled up. Half of the cans in the case exploded while I pumped and went to pay. Took me a moment to figure out what had happened. Coke was all over the windshield and pooling in the floorboard.
Never had that happen before or since.

28-38 as HC at Colorado State. He’s only back at UGA because it’s his alma mater. Kirby’s letting friendship cloud his judgment.
Apples and Oranges.
Don't mistake CSU football for anything like a great program, but his offenses were good.

He won 7 games there in 3 straight seasons. That is historically good years from those Rams.
His offenses were potent.

These are the offensive stats for his two losing records that got him fired.
In 2018 CSU had two QBs total 3600yds, a 1000 yd rusher, and two 1000 yd WRs. W-L 3-9
in 2019, CSU had two QBs total 3600yds, and a 1000yd WR and 800yd WR. W-L 4-8

After the Pruitt experiment surely you realize being a good coordinator and being a good head coach are two separate things, right? He was good at UGA before as an OC. The last year he was there they averaged 41 ppg and the year after he left they averaged 26 ppg (and we started a 2 game winning streak).

Maybe, but it was a bad hire on Smart's part.

James Coley was a bad hire on Smart's part. Bobo's not Monken, but he's going to do fine with their talent. He was plenty good with them before as far as putting up points, they had alot worse defense back then though. I think the real question about UGA this year is do they really find an answer at QB? Carson Beck looked good in their spring game and has been in their system for awhile but he has taken no meaningful snaps. That's a big deal in the SEC. He may turn out fine, he may not. Stetson Bennett as much as people ragged on his size was actually a pretty good athlete and had a knack for elevating his game when needed. That's going to be harder for them to replace than they think. The other thing with them is do they get lazy and lose that hunger that leads to winning at a high level? Once you win 2 in a row you can start thinking you're great and not work as hard. It's human nature, and it's why no one has won 3 in a row since the 1930's.

I am saying his offenses gained a ton of yards (scoring was low the final 2 seasons), even at lowly CSU.

He is being hired to be OC on a team loaded with future NFL players on offense. It's extremely relevant that Bobo was HC of decent (3 seasons) to terrible (2 seasons) CSU teams, but the Rams had high powered offenses all 5 seasons he was HC.

I am countering the dismissive attitude expressed by about half the posts in the thread.
Mike Bobo is a good hire for OC. I am not a fan of Mike Bobo, but I have a ton of respect for his offenses.
I wish he really was a weak hire, but he isn't.
He was consistently guiding QBs to be outstanding during his first stint as QB coach and OC at UGA. When he was there, UGA maintained an effective passing attack, and he did the same at CSU, which is not brimming with elite talent.

Experience says Kirby will throttle the offense a bit to suit his taste for clock control and running the ball, but I expect this is Kirby's version of opening up the offense, like Saban did with the Kiffin hire.

As dismissive as a lot of us were toward Stetson Bennett, I don't recall him costing them any games.
He will be difficult to replace. It will be interesting to see if Beck looks like a star immediately, or if he has feel his way. With his surrounding talent, it should be pretty smooth.
Bennett was a winner, and his intangibles will be sorely missed.

Hell, he won them games. He played great against us last year, and that last drive of theirs in the Ohio State game was as clutch as it comes, it was him making throws. The year before he threw 2 fourth quarter touchdowns in the national championship. I know alot of our fans hate him, and I don't like how he acts personally, but the kid was a clutch player. I think he's going to be harder for UGA to replace than they think.

The schedule really favors the new QBs getting reps building up against opponents who shouldn't threaten them too much.
They usually play a close game every year against an average or below average team. With all that QB potential waiting for their chances, and receiver and RB talent, they'll be effective.

I will add, Bobo is a solid hire. I wish he sucked, but he's going to have their offense rolling by the time we play them. He always had well-coached QBs down there.

He was their OC for 8 years. I remember those 8 years and I remember being glad he was leaving. That turned out to be a good thing as I suspected because their offensive output dropped off 15 PPG the next year. I wouldn't tell anybody he was a good head coach hire, he'd be terrible HC hire but he wasn't a bad OC at UGA before and I wouldn't expect him to be this time unless he doesn't have a QB. It's a real possibility they have a hole at QB though. They've got some players with good potential but they are all have no real experience, a dangerous situation in our league.

From my perspective, I highly respect Mike Bobo as QB coach and offensive planner. I do think it is unrealistic to dismiss his hire as anything but a positive for UGA.

Monken had their offense scoring a ton of points. Bobo has a history of offensive success, even on a couple of horrible CSU teams. Terrible teams with decent QB play.

I think he was a very solid hire. Having that elite OLine will make any QB's rise easier.
And I will be so glad Brock Bowers goes to the draft after 2023.

Count me in the camp of fans who thought Bobo was overrated and was glad Georgia lost Monken and hired Bobo. However, looking back at their offensive production when he was there, you can’t deny they were really good. I still think Monken is better but Bobo is no slouch even though their fan base didn’t like him. Maybe we luck out and the new QB struggles and they don’t gel as a unit. And maybe we are much improved on defense.

I don’t remember Bobo being anything special during his first tenure as OC at UGA. Also, UGA will be debuting a new QB and last time I checked their RB room was a wreck.

The defense will be good, but I see the offense struggling on those rare occasions when they face legitimate competition.

I agree Monken was better than Bobo.
Bennett ran his offense superbly.

Of course he will. Half of Georgia’s roster could be convicted of rape and murder but they would still play and the inbred obnoxious mutt fans would defend them and Kirby!
Foul. Name a single convicted rapist or murderer who ever played a snap for UGA.

I’m interested to see what happens.
My take:
1) UGA doesn’t skip a beat (offense takes a small step back due to acclimating to new OC/system) Defense carries them to another 12-0 regular season.

-OR-

2) Bobo is a dinosaur and the dawgs look a-La ‘2019 with Coley and lose a game or 2 they shouldn’t on paper.

I’m hoping for option 2, but also realize TN is undisputedly the hardest game on their schedule. UGA will get up to play us. They always do.
It's amazing how soft their schedule is.

It's amazing how soft their schedule is.
Basically we play Alabama and they play Auburn (advantage them, i.e. that's a considerably easier game for them); we play Virginia and they play Georgia Tech (that's a wash) and we play Texas A&M and they play Ole Miss (A&M is more talented but who knows who actually ends up better. Ole Miss has been better the last couple of years). Then it's the standard SEC East fare that we share.

Yeah, Monken was incredible. He's hard to top, I just don't think Bobo is a huge step back. If they brought Coley or Brian Schottenheimer back THAT would be a cause for celebration. Bobo, while not Monken is not some crippling hire. Bobo previously had to outscore people at UGA because he had Todd Grantham and Willie Martinez (who was a horrible DC) 7 out of his 8 years there, suffice it to say that is not the situation with their defense under Smart.

Adam Anderson hopes it stays that way.
Who?
Oh, you mean the future 1st rounder and team sack leader who was immediately suspended the same week the team played their division rival when allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced?
Kirby coverin for his boyz?
