Is Pruitt unwilling to give an OC control?

Every time I hear a talking head on Nashville radio address this subject, they say he's known in the coaching fraternity as someone who is difficult to work with. We've all heard the stories about what happened at UGA. But then there are these guys who know him who took jobs here. Probably, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

To hear tell it he should still be looking for coaches for his initial staff if hes what some claim he is.

It dont add up.

Oh, I'm so tore up over this OC hire I am wringing my hands, slinging my arms, pacing the floor, can't eat, can't rest, can't sleep, can't concentrate, inability to function and run outside at the top of every hour to see if the sky has fell. This OC thing reminds me of the following story:

Most of you are like little first graders screaming and stampeding out of the classroom, knocking each other down, those lying upon the floor getting trampled by classmates overcame by total panic to race out the door in an all out effort to escape, to get away from the certain death suddenly seen in the room. The downtrodden get up running down the hall screaming in pure terror, pulling fire alarms alerting all in the school to get outside immediately and save themselves. All at once the remaining classrooms of the entire school flee, running down the hall. To some that is not quick enough. Those climb through windows, a few cannot get windows open so they smash them with chairs and dive through the made holes to safety outside.
Sirens are coming! The police, fire department and rescue squad scramble onto the mad scene of chaos. After much effort calming the student body down the principal learns from the first graders what it was that nearly killed ALL of them. He slowly, ever so carefully, inches into the classroom with the police beside him having their pistols drawn and cocked, at the ready. They had never confronted a twelve foot long king cobra snake before and didn't properly know what to do.
After a few tense moments the principal reappeared in front of the student body all jammed upon the playground. He informed the students all was well and to return to their classes. There was no king cobra in the first grade classroom. Little Johnny had rolled a sheet of paper into a lengthwise shape, put a tongue with two eyes on it and said it was a snake.
I have never laughed at replys so much as I have over this OC hire. The earthquake is coming! The sky is falling! The Russian Army has invaded! I check in several times a day to laugh at adults acting like ..... first graders!! LOL!! LOL!! At you!!

We have become the OJT Mecca for football coaches! Dooley, Jones, Pruitt, ALL have come with “well, he has to learn on the job” my question is; “why”? Why can’t we hire established coaches? Why is this OC search turned into another fiasco? Why is the messaging so pathetic; and where is Fulmer, and is he and his head coach on the same page?

Money! They want $6 million+ with guarantees. UT is very cautious at this time, besides, CJP has not demonstrated one thing that would lead anyone to think he can't do the job, the only critics is .....ignorant fans.

Wanted to start a discussion that is going to tear some of your bowels up, so just find another thread if you need to. Based on reports of all of the interviews and the time frame of this OC search(41 days and counting) I think it's safe to assume that Pruitt has offered the OC to job to some of these OCs. My question is why are they turning the job down? We know the money is there, so why are these coaches choosing to go elsewhere over UT? I know this is going to infuriate the "nobody knows anything" nazis, but I say if the UT admin doesn't want speculation, they can leak some information, handle this in a timely manner, or deal with it. I was never on board with the Tyson Helton hire, but I still don't think he was anywhere near as bad as he appeared here. First time head coaches sometimes have trouble giving up control on the side of the ball that they aren't as familiar with. Dabo struggled with it when he first became a HC. What say you? Is that the case here? Is there another reason coaches are opting for other programs?
I think it has a lot to do with Pruitt’s loyalty to Will Friend. OCs want to bring their guys which is apparently why Briles and Pruitt couldn’t come to an understanding. Not to mention we had the worst OL in CFB last year. Pruitt is probably pointing at injuries and youth and lack of depth at the position, but regardless there is a lot to overcome when selling the OC position right now.

Im sure coaches weight in their ability to look like really good coaches under saban with that of a rookie coach that got blown out in every loss and struggled to score against Charlotte, ya think?

Spot on, as soon as he wins a few natty’s as a hc he can be a richard all he wants.

He can now, it doesn't bother me one bit. In fact I hope he dials it up a few notches.

Dial it up all you want but hes nothing but a 1st year hc who is hard to work with. If he continues that he will not make it long.

I haven't read everything about CJP, but what makes him hard to work with? Is it due to his high standards and expectations?

Same question that's been asked repeatedly on here..
If he's so hard to work with, why did so many already familiar with him join his staff?

I'm not being argumentative, I truly haven't seen anyone answer this yet.

Of course I would love to win a natty. But at this point I want us to get back in the top ten and go up from there.

That's silly.

However he's acting ain't gonna cost him his job Lol. If he's winning, you said yourself no one cares. If he's not winning, he'll be gone for not winning, not because he's a big meany.

People need to get off last year and realize that coaches talk and after one year as the head guy there is more to know about him.
I’m sure Helton thought he’d have control of the O and not have his boss demanding he do what he wanted.
He also went and hired friends that upgrade jobs last year. Either they were geting a title bump or were getting a shot at a bigger program. This year unknowns are now known and the fan base will also not be happy if he goes out and promotes another friend position coach to be his OC.
Now if your a proven decent OC why would you leave where you are to go work for a hard ass boss at a struggling program on a bigger national stage and not have complete control of the offense.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, look at UNLVs OC cause right now that’s where my money is. I doubt he will be CJP first choice but he’s someone that runs a lot and put up a top 25 rushing attack and he’s unknown enough that he’s be willing to cede complete control for the shot at a bigger stage. I think this is who CJP ends up with after people inside the program tell him hiring a position coach from else where or promoting within will put him on an extremely short leash with the fan base.

Sorry guys but we aren’t getting a proven top or even second tier OC.

But here’s the thing, if he’s so difficult to work with then he’d be losing coaches left and right like Dooley did adter his first year.

I think the whole “difficult to work with” is over blown, he might have high standards and there are certain coaches, i.e Mark Richt, who aren’t worried about those high standards, and they can move on.

Also if Helton thought as a first time OC that he was just going to have carte blanche without any input from his boss then he’s an idiot for thinking that.

I also linked an article earlier that Pruitt never called any offensive plays, he left that up to Helton. He did give his input but it was all Helton when it came to what plays were called.

Pruitt even said in that article that he was mad about a certain play call and we scored and he said he was glad Helton didn’t listen. Sounds to me like he knows his limits and is willing to secede control of the offense

He’ll get someone soon so I’m not going to worry about it

Because once he gets a coach on contract, they find out Pruitt only allows them to eat cornbread and drink fruit punch Gatorade while on staff.

He even makes them brush their teeth with Gatorade.
