Is Pruitt unwilling to give an OC control?

I tend to agree. It reminds me of our HC search. People reported offers were made but nothing was really made official. Nobody on the staff has said anything about any real offers, neither has Fulmer. That leads me to believe that no real offers have been made.

Because they can say “how highly would you say you’d take the job if we offered it to you? 100 percent? 75, 50,etc?”

We honestly don't know jack at this point.

One can speculate that the hire will be underwhelming based on the longevity of the search(I'm expecting Friend personally).

Our fans will be ready to run off whoever we hire after 1-3 weeks next year. We have no lineman to block, a mediocre qb, best running back gets hurt and is small and over rated receivers with no depth there. But we’ll still blame it on the coach next September regardless. Job looks great to proven OC’s 🙄

The OL will be much better in 2019 as long as 90% of them stay healthy. UT lost Smith and Kennedy. Had they finished the year. We probably beat USC and VU, not Mizz though, too much offense for UT's D.

Every time I hear a talking head on Nashville radio address this subject, they say he's known in the coaching fraternity as someone who is difficult to work with. We've all heard the stories about what happened at UGA. But then there are these guys who know him who took jobs here. Probably, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

I thought all of our local gurus “knew” we were waiting for someone’s season to be over and that it was impossible that it would be an on staff promotion! Probably a pro guy or top notch bowl/playoff team’s OC. So dumb... our Gump coach and incompetent AD have completely botched this, we are a laughing stock.

Wanted to start a discussion that is going to tear some of your bowels up, so just find another thread if you need to. Based on reports of all of the interviews and the time frame of this OC search(41 days and counting) I think it's safe to assume that Pruitt has offered the OC to job to some of these OCs. My question is why are they turning the job down? We know the money is there, so why are these coaches choosing to go elsewhere over UT? I know this is going to infuriate the "nobody knows anything" nazis, but I say if the UT admin doesn't want speculation, they can leak some information, handle this in a timely manner, or deal with it. I was never on board with the Tyson Helton hire, but I still don't think he was anywhere near as bad as he appeared here. First time head coaches sometimes have trouble giving up control on the side of the ball that they aren't as familiar with. Dabo struggled with it when he first became a HC. What say you? Is that the case here? Is there another reason coaches are opting for other programs?
We only know of one turndown and that was Yurich . So one could say why is Pruitt turning down so many? I would say you got to be damn good to come to UT and make 1.2 million a year to be a OC. What about you? Also Sarkisian may be worth it but he also may want to see if any NFL options show up our maybe the last college game is holding Pruitt up.

You know where the door is?

Ok...I did t exactly mean total control. I do t think any coordinator has total control....perhaps Peyton did as a QB at Indy. I'm talking about enough control...as in the freedom to run their system and manage their system it has been successful for them in the past

And I think he will. He is just having trouble finding someone whose system fits his philosophy. Once he does I believe he wont be as involved as it seems he has

Why not just hire Friend then or Tee, both have run similar systems... hell Tee should know the playbook Helton used, makes no sense...

I think it's safe to assume that potential OCs don't like that Pruitt is making all the coaches share a single office for team unity, and that he insists on dictating gameday footwear for all staff. Nobody likes to be told that kind of thing. And it's clear that they're not happy with the heavily regulated meal seating arrangements that are organized on a merit basis. No self-respecting coach will walk into a situation like that.
I think I heard it rumored that he issues bathroom passes as well.

I wonder what we would be focussed on if we already had an OC.

So, he's like one of those demi-gods?

We have become the OJT Mecca for football coaches! Dooley, Jones, Pruitt, ALL have come with “well, he has to learn on the job” my question is; “why”? Why can’t we hire established coaches? Why is this OC search turned into another fiasco? Why is the messaging so pathetic; and where is Fulmer, and is he and his head coach on the same page?

I agree. But honestly I am willing to go to year 4 until I give a real judgement. Reason is, its going to take that long to get the lines on both sides of the ball fixed imo.
I dont think year 2 and 3 will have to be his high point. But if he has it on the right track you ll start to see that over the next couple years.

Or maybe they simply thought they’d have more success quicker elsewhere? Whatever it is it’s likely the simplest, most obvious. Not the $, has to be the people or the responsibilities (in this case autonomy).

I like what you are saying. If I were a OC at another program and had the ability to "pick or chose" a program to sign with, it would be one that afforded me some chance of immediate success. (that is questionable with our program) It would take one hel- of a lot money to sway me from this approach. As has been proven (especially here) you may not have a HC to support you many seasons. So if I were looking for a program, UT would have two strikes against it. Now if I were an up and comer ( not an OC but some sort of asst.) then UT would be a good "chance" to take. Looking at "really nowhere to go but up" with the only hazard was me not showing some improvement.

Was Fulmer “established”? Bob Stoops? Chip Kelly sucks right now but used to be regarded as a home run...remember him...the University of New Hampshire career assistant? Lincoln Riley? One could keep going but you very rarely get a shot at someone AFTER they “establish” themselves. Lot of crying and gnashing of teeth on not hiring Gary Patterson over Lane Kiffin back when he coached a mid-major (TCU) before they weren’t. Kirby Smart has had a rough month but you don’t hear hints that he’s in over his head. He has a two year HC head start on Pruitt. People need to quit being in such a damn hurry to hand out a final grade on this hire. Let him finish taking the exam first.
