Impossible to make meaningful comparisons across eras IMO.

Someone else alluded to Bryant being the meaning for scholarship limits. Things like that, expanded schedules, changes in conference landscape, playoffs versus voting for the champion etc. just makes it too difficult

Saban is easily the best of his era though.

Had he stayed at LSU he would would have just passed Bryant in NCs.

Hard to argue with him being the best.

I did expect Saban to have great success at Alabama but I'm surprised at how well he has been able to recruit the state of Florida. Alabama got some luck with this one. Mal Moore's first offer in December '06 was to Rich Rodriquez (then of West Va).

Rich Rod would have been a good hire too, but Saban was obviously a home run

I don't. Because those are three of the schools that could be bigger than Bama. In fact, they're probably the only three that could be. Texas with Saban would be in the national title every year instead of every 2 years. USC would be the same thing.

Alabama is an all time great program, but what Saban has done with them he would do at ANY top 25-30 school (Proof, LSU) Alabama, for recruiting and in state talent, isn't that amazing. Not on the same level as USC, Texas, or ND at least.

Texas with Saban would be college football's greatest fear.

Saban is definitely in the top 3, if not the number 1 college football coach of all time. He's a perfectionist and demands that his players and coaches constantly work to eliminate mistakes. He's never satisfied, because perfection is impossible to obtain in this world, but if you are that driven and your players buy in, you get the college football machine Alabama is today especially when you also have the best roster in college ball.

Yes, Saban is the greatest of all time. He's now taken two SEC teams that were down when he took over and built them into champions. In the case of Alabama he's built a dynasty.

Perhaps y'all should set up a gofund account and raise money to build a statue to him in Tennessee. Then y'all can have weekly meeting at the statue and praise your hero.

Bryant is greatest in my opinion. Bryant won big at two schools that never won big before or after- Maryland and Ky. Bryant won with multiple systems - pro passing style and wishbone. Bryant was revered by former players black and white.

Saban was good, not great at MSU, rebuilt power LSU and took over Bama 1 yr after a 10 win season. Saban hasn't changed much of his system, culture. And many former players despise him.

Plus they made movie about Bear. Can't make one about Saban cause Mickey Rooney is dead!

Call me crazy but I find it revolting that any thread on a Vol site that shines anything positive on bammer is ridiculous.
