Is Saban the best ever?

ill disagree. Kansas and KSU have to fight for scraps after their state gets raped by bigger programs (mainly OK). 2016-75th nationally in recruiting
2015-55th
2014-49th
2013-61st
2012-75th
.......you see where im going with this.

Now you will probably point out Saban's recruiting prowess. At LSU and Alabama, outside of Florida, Cali, Texas, he was in the most fertile of college football recruiting grounds and had some of the best recruiters in the nation on those staffs.

not to mention the coordinators he has had at both LSU and Bama. I'm not saying he's a bad coach at all. He's a great coach who wound up at LSU and BAMA at the right time with the right staff

At some point, in order to make accurate comparisons, you have to actually look at results. Context is certainly important. But you can't contextualise every single win and loss. At some point you have to look at who won and who lost.

Dantonio is doing a MUCH better job at MSU than Saban ever did.

In fact, I would go as far to say that MSU has the best football/basketball coaching tandem in Dantonio/Izzo. The best tandem i can think of in a loooong time

Dantonio struggled his first few years in East Lansing and are comparable to Saban's first few years. He's had far more success recently, albeit in a weaker conference (top to bottom).

I would agree that they do have one of the better tandems.

Then by your definition:

Having the best team makes you the best coach.

This must be some kind of Alabama math.

LSU won 7 in 95
10 in 96
9 in 97

And they were co champions in 96 and 97. Let's not act like they were Vandy or something.

It was a typo.

But I'll concede your point. That third winning season definitely disproves my point, and LSU didn't spend most of the 90s sucking hard.

He wasn't the coach until 2000. And in 96 and 97 they had a share of the SEC title. Winning 19 games in those two season.

They had three winning seasons from '89 to '99.

If you want to focus on recency, how'd they do in the two years before Saban took over?

So coaches at Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Texas recruit better than coaches at Kansas St because they're better coaches?

Every situation is different. Shula was not as good at recruiting as Saban, so the school isn't a magic bullet.

Snyder probably gets more out of less than any other coach. If he recruited even a little better he might have more than 2 conference titles in 24 years. Maybe if he'd coached at Bama or Texas he'd have 10 national titles. Who knows? As I said, results have to matter. You can't dismiss everything with context.

They were co-division champs, not co-SEC. And they lost the tiebreaker both times. They then proceeded to tank.

They won 10 and 9 the next season. Then they had two bad seasons and he took over. Add on to that their massive in state recruiting base. It was not a bad job at all, like you're trying to make it sound. If it was, he wouldn't have taken it.

Results are relative, and should only be looked at in the proper context.
