Is the American Dream Dead?

The American dream isn't dead. People can have a good life here, I think people are little bit too focused on material possessions, that isn't going to bring long term happiness. I'm more concerned about the govt spending and entitlement programs these have to change.

Like the two trillion dollar bank entitlement and social safety net?

Actually, TARP is probably at break-even. Most of those evil banks have paid it back with interest.

Now of course the Fannie/Freddie monies are gone, gone, gone and we'll likely be dumping more in.

GM/Chrysler still owe a ton.

Not sure where AIG stands but I would imagine it still owes quite a bit.

I would not say his points are valid.

At one point in this video, he mentions "billions of dollars to kill millions of people around the world..."

Really? This guy is just another delusional leftist.

Well, when you think about the people who die from easily preventable diseases and poverty, it is certainly valid. The trillions spent on the War in Iraq achieved no US objectives after all - other than to funnel money to the military-industrial complex (the Welfare Dads).

What has been achieved has been recognized as accounting sleight-of-hand.

they've SOLD the warrents and teh banks have paid back the $$$$. how in the world is that accounting sleight of hand? or do you not trust your checking account balance either?

How much money was paid back to TARP? I need exact figures. Please tell me you aren't quoting the $50 billion.

Exactly what I was looking at. As I said, some sweet accounting sleight of hand, :hi: and:

Of the $386.4 billion the Treasury invested, about $199 billion already has been repaid. While it was billed as a $700 billion bailout, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates it will ultimately cost $66 billion, while the Treasury estimates about $105 billion.

Nowhere close to paying it back with interest

All-in-all, though I haven't followed it closely it looks as though this has been another Capitalism Savior. As much maligned as it has been, it has propped up the system from the edge of Socialism once again.

It's obviously a big victory for Obama, and history will absolve him (yeah, that was a Castro reference).

how in the world is that accounting sleight of hand?

you do realize that the amount paid back doesn't include the billions of profit on the warrants and teh billions of dividend income received right?

You realize TARP was a small part of the full bailout?

Again, give me numbers. When you did, it was sleight-of-hand accounting / NOT paid back at all yet.

Start with the easy ones: Citibank and Wells Fargo.

And give Obama some props while you are at it. By your own reckoning this has been WILDLY successful.

you mean besides bailing out obama's union buddies and the gov't funded fannie and freddie? yes.

still waiting for the sleight of hand
