Is the world better off with the nation of Israel?

Hey, if those people wouldn't have acted a fool they wouldn't have gotten killed. They were trying to send fire kites, throwing rocks and attempting to break the fence. WTH did they expect to the Israelis to do?

Cool. If the cops had unloaded on the white supremacists in Charlottesville after one of them took to violence, would that have been justified?

1600 people got hurt and the article states that the majority were peaceful.

Been here 6 years and I love it. I miss the south, but I love the weather here 9 months of the year, the sunshine nearly every day, and the ability to see 100 miles.

Ah ok wasn’t aware you’d been there that long. I’m in Tucson quite a bit and it’s brutal. Yeah it’s a “dry heat”. So is a damn crematorium...

If you love it though great for you.

Why do you trust the article's claims?

The bold is just a dumb.

Peaceful my ass. I'm all for people around the world being able to peacefully protest but there comes a time when you have to take responsibility for yourself. Every damn person there knew what was going to happen and what the probable outcome would be.

But it's only miserable for 3 months at a max. Yeah, it's all pretty much consecutive, but as a whole, almost every place in the US has more bad weather days than we do. I've had bad winters that lasted 6 months in in Salt Lake City. I remember one time in Tennessee we only had like 2 days of sun in 6 weeks. That **** is depressing.

Give me a reason not to. It seemed fairly balanced.

1. Few news reports are without bias.
2. Mistakes, even unintentional, are common.
3. Both sides exaggerate their horror and downplay their role.

What were your thoughts of the protester they quoted? Any thoughts on the leaflets dropped?

What a surprise, you didn't answer the question.

Hog wasn't there and he knows what happened enough to refute the article. This is amazing. Who should I pick to win the world series?

What you're saying is there is a chance they are wrong. Sure, I'm skeptical to a degree, but these aren't reasons enough to assume it's wrong. The article made multiple points in favor and in opposition to the protesters, which is why I'm saying it appears balanced. You go off what information you have until you have better information.

Don't believe everything you read. What are your thoughts on the other two questions at the end of my post?

Maybe you could make it easier on a brother and provide which of the quotes you're talking about.

They passed out leaflets? I guess people don't have a right to assemble, then. :)

From CNN:
"The Palestinian Health Ministry said more than 1,600 had suffered injuries, and that many of the dead had not yet been identified."

Is this a trustworthy source for unbiased info?

What about this source; trustworthy?

CNN:
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released a statement Monday accusing the Palestinian militant group Hamas, which controls Gaza, of "leading a terrorist operation" and inciting protesters who had amassed by the border fence with Israel to conduct what Israel described as terror attacks.

The IDF estimated that around 35,000 people -- who it describes as "violent rioters"

Did you read the article you linked? It was in that piece. I also copied and pasted that section several posts ago.

So let’s take the article as 100% factual. I quoted a section where the protest organizers were encouraging the protestors to push thru the fence as the soldiers were retreating, even as the the soldiers were reinforcing their positions. And the other quote I made about the carnival atmosphere?! The organizers got just what the wanted huff. They goaded some young Palestinians into literally throwing their lives away for a news sound bite. If you’re gonna call out the soldiers are you gonna call out the protest organizers for just as abhorrent behavior? In fact if they stayed in the rear with the gear their actions are worse as far as I’m concerned.

And back to a lighter note your house has a swamp cooler on it right? Those things are incredibly efficient in that environment. I see them all over the Mojave when I’m out there.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said 443 injuries were caused by live ammunition, 320 by tear gas, and three by rubber-coated bullets.

Where are the other 837 injured people?...if the PHM is a reputable source.

I've seen enough videos of "peaceful" Palestinian protests over the years to know what the odds of this one being peaceful are. And that is slim to none.

Hint: if you're at a protest and people start throwing rocks, lighting **** on fire and trying to tear down barricades, it's not a peaceful protest. You probably should leave unless you support what's happening and are willing to take the consequences.

Yes. Your thoughts?

Nirma Attalah, 29, said the deaths were just galvanizing Gaza residents to keep on demonstrating despite weeks of losses.

“My brother was shot in the head in this place,” she said, adding that it was two weeks earlier. She had come on Monday with her whole extended family to the protest.

“We are here for Jerusalem, for Palestinian land,” she said.

Try to keep up huff.

Israel dropped leaflets urging Palestinians to stay away from the fence.

“Save your lives and work on building your futures,” the leaflets said."

What are we doing here? Quibbling over injury estimates? Does it change anything if it's 800 and not 1600?

Looks like 51 killed, and now 2,400 injuries! I'm sure if those numbers hold true you'll change your mind about this event, right? It won't change your mind, so why are we quibbling about it?

I have no thoughts about this relating to our conversation. Maybe you can explain how it ties in to the points we're discussing. This is where I need help keeping up.

Very weak rebuttal. You brought the info. The veracity of it is extremely important. The sources of the info are as well.

I've never and will never lose a moments sleep about the middle East. I'm not particularly interested in the region. I am interested in how we come to our conclusions. It's cool if it isn't the discussion you want...im probably the only person here who is apathetic towards politics but enjoys the people of the forum.
