Is this true? Justine transferring

It isn't just practice performance that affects playing time. Our players are expected to put in significant court/conditioning time on their own.

Good post Major....None of us were at practice so we can't say with any certainty how anyone performed at practice...

I'm not going to get in a pissing contest with anyone on this board about Justine....I was a fan of Justine and don't give a damn whether anyone else is, was, or not....

They have their entitled opinions, and I have mine...

Good day.....

Justine left because she sees the handwriting on the wall...Two years wasted, so I believe that is why she made the decision. . . .Think about it, only one recruit in two years to one of the most storied programs in the history of this sport. Something has to change because this is not normal. Just look around, who else has this problem?

We're headed down the KY men's team road.....1-2 year players, highly ranked, gone before they can become a real team. Ranked all year due to talent and then beaten by "teams" with talent !

To me, Justine never was given a true shot and had to sit and watch a player that was about her equal at that time,,, get so much playing time, that she actually began to be able to contribute... Give Justine that same 24.2 minutes a game to get acclimated and comfortable and,,,boom

Better yet, lets see what she does in her new home and let that be the telling

I believe Kentucky signs 5 star high school recruits, they then leave after one year for nba. A lot of the time these men aren’t ready and should have stayed another year.
I don’t see Kelli signing any 5 star recruits out of high school. It’s going to be her downfall long term. Maybe short term. I don’t know why she can’t recruit at a high level. Heck she can’t recruit any ladies from high school it seems.

Please read my previous post - she may have been one of the players that I was referring to...

we'll be signing 1-2 year players like they do,,,thats what I meant

What I find off, Justine hasn’t explicitly posted anything online regarding putting her name in the transfer portal, so maybe, just maybe, she did so just to test the waters, and May end up staying at TN?

I certainly hope that's the case. Would hate to lose her. I think she has tremendous potential.

Nothing set in stone that Justine is leaving. Part of the dynamics of being a manchild in college athletics is the kids want to be woo'ed. With the NIL and the portal that is just a part of the new world order process.
Justine needs to be careful not to overplay her hand. I sure hope it works out for her, sounds like she's getting pressure fm home to leave but is reluctant.

Kellie needs to go, period. It’s funny how some of y’all were sooo hyped up, and excited about Justine, and now y’all are like “she needed work anyways” lmao

I use to go to every Lady Vols game, watch every game, but I haven’t cared about the program since Warlick’s second season

Going to get bashed and that’s fine.

Coach, if memory serves me right, you gave us an assessment a long time ago when you saw her on tv or tape play in an AAU or HS game. You critiqued her game as too much hanging around the perimeter, and seemed to shy away from contact and the kind of physicality that would be needed in the SEC. YOu thought a 6-4 player would have to rebound and post up and get physical down low. You wondered if her game could translate to the SEC. I remember that GT got pretty upset with you with that analysis. Turns out your initial assessment was right.

I agreed..in order for lady vols to win another championship or get to final 4, the need a top coach or a player who is well known to these kids.

The way I see it, Kellie's great mistake, in crystal clear HINDSIGHT, was creating a schedule that her team wasn't ready for until too late in the season and after too much damage had already been done. If Tennessee and LSU had switched schedules before the season, I strongly suspect neither Pissott nor Miles would be in the transfer portal today.

Thing is, once the losses started piling up there was tremendous pressure on the staff to just win games so they don't end up being the first coaching staff to ever fail to take a team to the NCAA Tournament. They must have been losing quite a bit of sleep.

Sp instead of getting to give players like Miles and Pissott much-needed minutes, Kellie obviously decided that they stood a better chance of winning enough games to make the tourney if they severely cut the roster down. They felt, I'm sure, that the hole the overscheduling had dug for them was too deep to spend the time in developing all the players.

I can understand where they were coming from. They were desperate to find a groove. Unfortunately, they did not give either Miles or Pissott the game minutes they needed and likely deserved, and now they're leaving. I hate it, but I understand it. From BOTH sides.

Bottom line, this one does land squarely on Kellie's shoulders. She could not have predicted the team would take so long to gel, so the brutal schedule she made hurt Pissott and Miles. Harper was trying to do a great thing for the program, but everyone miscalculated. I hate it for her. But I hate it for Pissott and Miles more.

Those two will always be Lady Vols to me.

The flaw in that theory is that Brooklyn got a lot of time as a freshman and seemed pretty integral to the team. So, she should have been a core player in those early season tough matches, given her experience. But, BM essentially got recruited over by Powell and Walker taking her 6th year pushed her further back in the rotation. Next season, she would have been third option again behind Wells and Powell. But, I think a case can be made that Powell (particularly later in the season) and Wells are upgrades over Brooklyn. We have to be honest that when Kellie took the job, she started very late in the recruiting cycle and then got hit by the constraints of covid. So, we would expect some upgrading from her early signings and that is what happened with Brooklyn.

D1 competition is unforgiving that way.

Your take makes more sense with Justine who just never seemed to get off the ground. But, not every game the LVs played in the pre-season was a tough match-up and even in those "cupcake" games, Kellie made no special effort to get Justine more acclimatizing time on the court. In hindsight, it looks like the staff made a decision early on that Justine was a project player who would need to use her first year to work on her game and phsyical development. Justine has not left yet so perhaps, reparations can be made and a happy LV ending awaits.

During the season, I was a big advocate that Justine needed more time on the court.

And I was not thinking Justine rather than Tess but situations where Justine and Tess played together. That line-up would presume that Kellie was willing to run an Iowa style spread offense with shooters all around and zone defense to cover some resulting deficiencies on the other side.-- imagine Horston (at PG) with Rickea, Hollingshead, Tess and Justine both bombing away from outside.

I have realized that such an offensive scheme is not going to happen with Kellie. Her teams are going to run a "pound the paint" offense where the three is the shot you take as the last resort. End of story. With Key back, we will see a doubling down on that old skool approach. And SC and to some extent LSU have shown that dominating the paint with size and athleticism can still be quite successful but you have to have the right players. The flipside is that playing time for an outside sniper is going to be limited. And Kellie clearly values Tess for her work ethic and other attributes. So Justine seems like she was going to be the odd one out for two more seasons, presuming that Tess takes her covide season.

So, in some ways Justine transfers could be a win-win, if Kellie brings a portal player who better fits her system and Justine goes somewhere we she can have a more prominent role.

One thing we are seeing in the last two season is that Kellie is starting to build a more coherent team identity whereas earlier on, it was a bit hodge podge based on the players she inherited and those she was able to recruit on short notice when she first joined and was working under covid restrictions.

I do think it will be hard for Kellie to beat SC and LSU at their own game but if the SEC puts 3 teams in the final four next season-- being third best in conference might not seem so bad.
But remember, Madtownvol. Who was the last team to beat LSU? The LVs came back from a 17 point deficit to beat LSU. Kellie did a masteful coaching job. I wish she would coach like that all the time.

Brooklyn got recruited over for sure. Her class was the last one before a slow but certain talent upgrade started. When they got Wells, the writing was pretty much on the wall for her. I believe BK can do really well at a smaller school.

As far as Justine, one of our very reliable insiders indicated she did not put in the level of individual work outside of practice that may have made her more physically ready to play. So I'm sure that made a difference in how much the coaches invested in her development. If you saw her play in person, she was so far behind physically that technique type development to her game was never possible.

I notice Justine still hasn't posted anything so I still hope she'll change her mind, really put her all into it, and come back ready to meet her potential next year.
