Is this true? Justine transferring

Totally agree, which is why I didn't quote that stupid post. Newsflash: kids act goofy on IG.

IMO making this leap is much worse than posters saying (truthfully) that signing Strickland is a bit of a let down.

Agreed. And it makes it worse when coming on the heels of the player entering the transfer portal. Really smacks of sour grapes and retaliatory behavior. Horrible look for "fans."

The Harpers are one of 3 wife/husband combos just in the SEC. Shea Ralph's hubby is her asst at Vandy, and Kristi Curry's hubby at Alabama has been her assistant for years. Outside the SEC there are several, including the Fortiers at Gonzaga.

In each case, the husband works for the wife, which in my opinion is a great example. Also in each case if you didn't know the assistant was the head coach's husband you'd never know. It seems to be the idea of the arrangement, rather than the actual arrangement, that bothers people. For couples like the Harpers with young children, it's a way for both parents to pursue their chosen career as coaches but still keep the family together.

There was a couple at Washington State that coached together for 30 years. It's actually not that big a deal.

I’ve asked this before though, could you imagine a men’s coach employing his wife?

People would lose their minds. I just think it’s a terrible idea. This isn’t a family business.

The Weekly's?

What about children? Lots of men's coaches have had sons on their staffs. Vic Shaeffer has his daughter. Didn't stop Texas from hiring him.

I would hope that everyone here would be extremely careful about even hinting at reputation-damaging behavior of any players without any proof, especially when admittedly based solely upon "appearances."

Imo, those posts should be removed. Makes me queasy just seeing them.
Uh, yeah . . . We’re not going down that road.

Goodbye, Justine Goodbye, Justine! Goodbye Justine, Goodbye Justine! We'll cheer you in our dreams!!!!

It has nothing to do with the fact that it's WCBB. It is a state of TN issue.

Clearly a Nepotism issue. Likely the relationship has already been approved. And like you say, it happens in college athletics, although I'm not aware of husband/wife coach teams.

The Tennessee State Employees Uniform Nepotism Policy Act of 1980 provides in relevant part that, “[w]ithin each governmental entity, no state employees who are relatives shall be placed within the same direct line of supervision whereby one (1) relative is responsible for supervising the job performance or work ...Jul 6, 2018

It appears to be against the rules to me if Kellie is his supervisor

If he is the best assistant coach we can get, great.

Does it really make sense to you that UTAD would blatantly violate state laws and no one but you would have noticed.

Perhaps the reason that this great scandal is not being exposed can be found hidden in plain site on the UTAD website:

A charter member of the Southeastern Conference, Tennessee Athletics is one of only a handful of departments nationwide that does not receive state funds.

In other words, UTAD staff are not state employees. UTAD is a privatized entity.

Welcome back
Your dreams were your ticket out
Welcome back
To that same old place that you laughed about

Well, some names have changed
Since you hung around
But those dreams still remain
And can turn things around

Who'd have thought they'd lead you
Back here where we need you

Welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back, Welcome back

That came from our most reliable insiders. Perhaps the reason she wasn't quick enough nor strong enough is exactly that she didn't put in the work. Otherwise she wouldn't have been so far behind physically. Also would explain why the coaches didn't feel compelled to give her alot of on court development time.

Again, doesn't jive with what I've read about her for a long time now. As far as 'insiders', the only two insiders I would trust to let us know the truth about her reasons for being in the portal are Kellie and Justine, as they are the two who struck the contract between them regarding her role on the team when she was recruited.

I was a big fan of Justine, but her transferring makes no sense to me. Obviously there are flaws in her game such as lateral movement on Defense and body strength. She can shoot, but not consistently at this level. So what does transferring get her? More playing time against inferior players and padded stats. I heard her say she wants to be a HEAD COACH at D1. Coaches go through adversity and they don't QUIT at the first sign of adversity or setbacks. At some point, she is going to have to do the work on the flaws in her defense, get stronger, and play against good/better players face defeat a few hundred times and get better. Pat used to say, "To be the best, you have to play and beat the best."

Tennessee has a massive fitness program, nutrition program, NIL deals and strength gym and staff that can and does get the players stronger. I seem to remember one of the players from this team (Horston maybe?) improved her vertical jump massively this year which improved her rebounding. Speed, agility, lateral movements, and endurance can be worked on and improved IF the player is willing to put the time and effort in. She can do all of that HERE. Leaving doesn't improve any of them.

Kobe Bryant once said that he was willing to pay (a couple of hours a day) the price to be better than everyone else like shooting. IF Justine wants to be a better player, a good coach later on and play in big games, she would be advised to stay here and pay the price to work her backside off to get better and beat out T Darby, E Darby, Striplin, Puckett and any other player on or coming in.

I don’t recall it being brought up but wasn’t this a ploy used by one of Barnes’ players to nab some NIL dollars $$$. It may have been a football playa…

That is fair. Let me clarify my previous over generalization. The issue is a matter of emphasis. For example, Iowa is not opposed to lay-ups and paint points but they use the three (and the threat of the three) to set up those other options,. Kellie's offense is the opposite-- pound the paint to create some open looks here and there and use the three as a last resort when you can't work the ball inside. I think Kellie's head would explode if someone took a 3 early in the shot clock before the post offense was fully set. You are right that this team had a paucity of three point shooters but coach Harper never used any of their early season mismatch games to see if they could run a spread offense by giving Justine, Sara, and Karo (who has decent shot) more chances. We were a poor three point shooting in most games but perhaps it was because it was often the shot taken under desperate circumstances, shot clock expiring and so on.

Like I said, I am off this soap box. We have seen the offense that Kellie likes to run and that is what it is going to be, I just hope the LVs can do it better and more consistently next season. I think Kellie will have the pieces for that better result to happen.
Good post. You can work around being unathletic if.... you can shoot it at a high level and play high IQ ball. We're unathletic and do not do those things.

If it's the photo I saw, Walker and Powell were in it. Rennie, Miles, and Pissott were not. Neither was Jasmine Franklin.
I wondered when this pic would make its way over here, it pretty much broke the internet around Knoxville yesterday. Whew Lawdy! Very tall women in very small dresses. This is from the formal spring sports awards thing they do every year at the Tennessee Theater. Jaz P is def in it.

Jordy also is not in it. I'm sure it was optional to attend for those who have left the team. I'm sure glad Jo Jo came though, because she absolutely killed it.

Probably best to stop the assessments right there.

Great photo. I continue be stunned when I see Key photographed with her teammates. Karo and Jillian H are not small women but they look like dwarfs compared to Tamari. I realize TK is in heels and Jillian is in flats but look at the difference in their shoulder width and frame. A lot of opposing post players are going to have restless nights knowing TK is going to be patrolling the paint next season.

Until this past season, I did not see many results from the massive fitness program. A number of the players were way over weight and could not guard players in the man to man defense or the zone. They improved this year, but there is still a lot of room for more improvement. No telling how good some of these players could be if they were in great physical condition.

Part of it is the fisheye effect from the wide angle lens used to get them all in. Rickea, on the other end, also looks much bigger than she actually is. But yeah, I swear TK is still growing. If Jill, in flats, is 6'5", TK is close to 6'8" now. I really want to see her get in tip top game shape over the summer.

Probably wants to finish school. Making a lot of money. Wants a ring (s). Wants to play with Fudd (her bestie). AND...there's no such thing as a deep draft to consider with her talent. Take your pick(s). My point is she has no reason to want to leave early as far as I can see.
Plus Beckers has a nice NIL deal where she makes more money staying in college as opposed to going pro in the WNBA.

Volinvonore, I don’t know if you ever go to Lady Vol games in person, but one of the things I notice most every time I see them in person is how much thinner everyone looks in person than they do on TV. A couple of players looked on TV at times year to be a tad doughy, but in person they did not. Yes, some players have more muscle tone than others, but it really is remarkable how much TV distorts reality.
