Transferring may hurt her, and don't blame Kellie. She tried her best to play everyone, but Justine didn't perform. She needs patience.
I disagree. You need a balance. One is a short term solution and the other isn't. In either case, you're relying on them to build the pillar of your program. There are very few BIG fish in the portal. And some look bigger than they are. Most sophomores are in the portal for the same reason Pissott is in there. Haven't played enough or just feel a disconnect from whence they came. I'm not saying dismiss the portal, but it can't be your main dish....and certainly not repeatedly.
There's one playing small forward. Name's Jackson. Ya'll gotta make your way out of the 1900s. Recruiting is now ongoing. Portal with proven players counts the very same as high school unproven.
Yeah, I think everyone gets that but you still need to recruit high school talent, develop them, and keep them for sustained success. No team that is perennially a final four and championship contender in recent years outside of LSU this year has relied much on transfer/portal players year in and year out. It has to be a mix. No coach can rely on the portal every single year to keep up. We still lost 12 games this year and what happens when you can’t get a top player out of the portal? It happens or will happen to any team. I love Kellie, but you know it’s going to get more and more difficult to convince a portal player to come to UT if other coaches are filling their heads with look at their recruiting and look at all the losses when they were preseason number 4 with Jackson and blah blah, etc. We have to prove it on the court and in the postseason or it none of it matters, and we looked mostly horrible and lost against top teams this season. Definitely improved at the end, but was that enough? I hope so. We definitely have to see how the roster plays out in the few weeks, and I hope for more good news there. Certainly nothing wrong with anyone being concerned.
Logic would dictate you need both portal and hs recruiting, and I doubt KJH would turn down a good player from either. OTOH, as you pointed out, LSU blew that theory out of the water this year, along with the old nugget that you can't win championships with a weak pre conference schedule. Things are different now, and we're not even sure how they'll shake out.Yeah, I think everyone gets that but you still need to recruit high school talent, develop them, and keep them for sustained success. Puckett and Striplin are both on their way too. And she just got Wells from Belmont. Marta was great her freshman year but injuries plaques her. Many great playersOK, I give Harper & Co. full credit for 1 good player (Jackson) and one promising player (Hollingshead) ....in FOUR years of recruiting.
Now, where did I put those fireworks?

Again, that is a position based on convention. Why can't you build a culture with transfers versus players out of high school? A player with a year or two more of emotional maturity might be exactly the players you want to build a culture versus a player fresh out of high school who is dealing with all kinds of transition issues.
And let's not forget. Hollingshead had injuries as freshman but would have featured for GA. The key development is that she had a change of heart about where she wanted to be. Kellie missed her on the first recruiting attempt and landed her on the second. So, it is not like Hollingshead is some alien being who was just dropped on planet Earth. She is a Kellie HS recruit, it just took a little buyer's remorse to get her on Rocky Top.
