Is Trae Golden the PG of the future?

Well most guys who are elite, don't play their their entire time at college, they go on to play professionally. So the list would not be the most accurate to go by.

When I'm saying entire college careers I mean however long they were there. If they were only there 2 years that's fine.

Let's just face it, we all have been wrong in this. Being Golden's height does not mean he would not play SG professionally.

He wasn't a Pg on the NBA?

Combo guard, which means he played SG in the NBA sometimes. Exactly like Iverson.

Let me remind you of what you said.

Can you name me a 6' SG playing proffesionally? Who played PG in college for his career.

You never said played exclusively SG in the NBA. Therefore, both of those players are examples. And frankly, Golden is undersized for the PG position in the NBA.

I'm bored of this topic. You were wrong. Last post on it. Just admit it. Think before you make dumb statements.

This.

Teague handles the ball well and isn't looking to score first. He is a true point guard. Trae is doing a good job but he is playing out of position.

I'm not even sure what we are discussing here. I don't think there can be any questioning of those facts

Golden's assist rate is actually higher than Teague. And Teague should easily be getting 6-7 assists a game with the offensive talent on that team, but only averages 4.7. He also averages 2.86 TO's, and has a higher TO% than Golden's at 25.5. He's also nowhere near the efficient scorer that Golden is. Other than defense, Trae is flat out better.

Ok you 2 win.

That proves my point though, it's obviously very uncommon that it occurs, but good job you named 1 guy who played combo.

As I said it proved my point. Traes future is at PG, both at UT and wherever he plays profesionally.

Well said. This has always been my point, golden is very comparable to Teague, yet I'm sure most on this board would lust after Teague.

We're talking about NBA comparisons right now? Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't see Golden as an NBA point guard. NBA point guards are either big and athletic (Williams, Wall, Rose, Westbrook, etc) or small and extremely quick (Paul, Jameer Nelson). Golden is fairly big, but he's not going to jump out of the gym like Westbrook or Williams. He's also not nearly as fast as Paul or Nelson. The only point guard I really see playing in the NBA from the SEC is Bost, and possibly Teague and Releford if either gets a jump shot. BJ Young's a really good player, too, but he needs to work on his point guard skills.

I hadn't looked at the numbers, but yes, I am one of those who lusts after Teague. It comes from playing, watching, coaching a lot of basketball. If a team puts a full court press on and I get the ball into Teague's hands, I relax as a coach. He is quicker than a hiccup and can flat handle the ball. Is he left handed? He goes to left very well.

When the other team goes full court all out press against us now, and Trae has the ball, I feel like calling timeout.

Even CCM says he is a 2 plaing 1. ANd he has done well. I like him. But, are you guys trying to say that he is a true 1? He just ain't quick enough to break down D's and dish.

Sure, Trae isn't at his best handling the press. But he has gotten better, and like I said, Teague is turning the ball over more than Trae, while his ast pct is lower.

And Trae is pretty good at driving and dishing. Agree he struggles against quicker guards, but once he gets in the paint, he does pretty good of making the correct play.

Is he a true 1 right now? No. But he definitely has the skills to be a very good PG in the future.

I don't agree that Trae can handle the ball as well as Teague. The dribble drive is predicated off of penetration, so I would expect more turnovers since they attack more, just as there are more charges against them.

Teague can handle it comfortably with his left. Trae can't.

I know I'm late to the party, but like I've said before, Trae is going to be our PG unless we get a Harris/Stokes-like pickup at PG. How long are we going to say that it's not his natural position? Who cares!?!?! He is easily our best choice for PG and he has GOOD PG stats. I just highly doubt we will get a better player for our starting PG needs. I'd even take it to the bank.

You named a combo guard, not exactly what the point was but ok. I said name a PG in college who went on I be a SG, not a combo guard. AI played combo in college an NBA, doesn't fit the criteria, but ok congratulations you win.

Would you like to place a wager Trae finishes his career at PG for UT.

Bingo!

Complaining is doing nobody any good, whether they wanna admit it he's a top 5 PG in the sec and maybe top 3 as a sophomore.

He's There to stay.

One would hope, that just like in any college sport, Martin is trying to recruit better players at every position, not just PG, but if he doesn't sign a better PG UT will be fine next year in Golden's hands. I am really far more concerned with finding some way of giving Golden 7-8 quality minutes off the floor every night. He has basically had to play extensive minutes while learning a new position in a new system under a new coach with almost an entire new starting 5. Plus he has had a broken nose, surgery, stitches over one eye and a twisted ankle along the way. Kid has a huge heart and will to win and will only get better.

Exactly, over a smart ass poster basically.:loco:

And one who thinks trae won't be a pg at Tennessee, and the other who thinks mcbee should start instead of him.

All my point was going back 7 pages is traes future is at PG. you can argue with me or ccm since he said the exact same thing, but clearly you're smarter than ccm that's why your on a message board and not a sideline.

I think Stanton will provide a nice break or golden, much more capable than washpun IMO.

Hopefully washpun is playing somewhere else next year. Jmo
